So your argument is that migrants to northern states should embrace AFL (a foreign code in their adopted states) because the AFL has more money?

Isn’t the argument that sport offers migrants a chance to make bonds with their local community?

Wouldn’t that mean embracing the most popular codes (soccer, league) in their locale……

Demetriou wants to win Australia's new arrivals

so what exactly is AFL’s “fair share” of Sydney?

While you are crunching the numbers, please let us know Curling’s fair share of Melbourne, and European Handball’s fair share of Launceston.

Conspiracy theories about 2022 embarrass Australia

I still can’t believe how soccer players carry on with the ref. I mean the remonstrating is bad enough, but some even man-handle the ref. In RL you get suspended for touching the ref, even accidentally in some circumstances.

What exactly is the rationale for allowing such disrespect for officials?

Fussball – the largest football league in the world has a salary cap. Soccer would be better for a salary cap too.

It's time for Australian football to just grow up

Tobias.

Conspiracy theories about 2022 embarrass Australia

An article about the demise of GCU that blames a not-yet existent club playing a foreign code, but does not at all mention the most popular football club on the Gold Coast.

Interesting tact.

Unveiling a new concept for the NRL

“The Americans cant chant either”

American college football crowds are the best in world sport – bar none.

They may not sing long complicated songs like the poms…. but 100,000 chanting their asses off, accompanied by a 500 piece brass band, sounds phenomenal.

Have Aussie cricket fans finally lost their voice?

Nothing story between the Jets and Knights.

Carry on….

Little sympathy for Australian football from rival codes

Am I the only one who finds this obsession with making a distinction between “football people” and “non-football people” both condescending and a little bit creepy?

If you want to make sure people don’t embrace football, call them “non-football people”.

Our FIFA problem: We are small and speak English

fine, since it is so important to you, you can have the big desert in the middle of the country where next to no-one lives.

we will even let you count it in your regional TV figures, so long as you let us count ours.

Australian football's loss is also a blow for AFL

Cultural cringe alive and well I see.

FIFA disgraces game with farcical decision on Qatar

A conservative city in the desert with about 1.6million people has won the WC.

they should have just given it to Adelaide.

Australian football's loss is also a blow for AFL

*southern Australia’s favourite game.

the other 52% of the nation’s favourite game is Rugby League, as much as you would like to ignore that fact.

Australian football's loss is also a blow for AFL

I would prefer to see my club play.

But being realistic, as long as the salary cap continues to be the loopholed farce that it is…. I won’t be seeing my club play in any WCC – and nor will fans of all but a small number of clubs.

Stop crowing Russell, world domination has to wait

this isnt an Australian thing, it is an Australian rugby thing.

Australian crowds lack atmosphere

apparently the state govt. spent about the same… all so Keneally and McKay could cosy up to becks.

NRL fishing for heartland expansion

LOL – that isn’t backing ourselves at all!

NRL fishing for heartland expansion

The CC and Newcastle have not “always” had a rivalry. Until the A-League manufactured one, there was no rivalry at all.

I simply want to see my game strengthened. Taking advantage of massive opportunities presented by SEQLD, NZ and WA strengthens my game.

Navel gazing does not.

I appreciate your passion for your team, and I appreciate that you were dudded by the NRL.

But you need to appreciate that it is legitimate to point out that you don’t offer as much to the game as these other exciting opportunities do…. or indeed as much as you think you do.

NRL fishing for heartland expansion

This argument that the Central Coast is “no risk” is seriously flawed. The Central Coast has only established its own identity very recently – and it is still a fragile identity.

There is no guarantee that existing RL fans on the CC (who already have their own teams) will abandon their teams to support the Bears. I have not met one person from the CC who plans to do so – it would seem quite clear that it is primarily the remaining NS Bears fans (and opportunistic politicians) pushing hard for this – while the average CC person wants a team based there (of course), they won’t neccessarily support it as their first team.

They will, however, “like” them on Facebook….

NRL fishing for heartland expansion

LOL @ Facebook fans. I’m sold.

LOL x 2 at counting North Sydney in the Central Coast’s catchment. If we are using those standards, then the Central Coast is already amply served for RL by Newcastle and Manly.

Central Coast Bears are the belly button lint of the NRL. The only way you pay it any attention is if you are navel gazing.

If we are serious about growing the game, the next two teams are Perth and one of SEQ or Southern NZ (games split between Wellington and Christchurch)

If we lack confidence and would prefer to cannibalise our existing clubs, the CCB get a gig.

I lack confidence in the NRL to make the right decision, to be honest.
