The best players that slipped through the cracks since 2000

Steven Armstrong – delisted at Melbourne in 2005, 2006 premiership player with WCE. Must be ranked above Fyfe, Buckley, Gaff and Modra. He has a premiership 😛

Josh J. Kennedy: Carlton’s Pick 4 played 22 games for just 11 goals.
Kennedy was unwilling to be traded & the Eagles wanted pick 1 & 3 for Judd. They relented & accepted picks 3, 20 & “that Kennedy kid” as steak knives. Carlton got Kreuzer with no 1.
At WCE Kennedy has kicked 600 goals in 221 games so far.

Yes Doran, I think the Eagles have the most A-grade and B-grade players. Their under 23 group is also very promising. I believe Josh Kennedy is in his last year and may drop out of the A & B grade groups, but he will still attract a quality opponent each week. (C-graders are important role players too). It would be interesting to see which players they recruit to top up a premiership-worthy list.

The ten players your team can least afford to lose: West Coast Eagles

What an introduction for Justin Longmuir! He’s part of a major change with Peter Bell and Simon Garlic turning the page. Let’s hope they write their own story and don’t go down the track of predecessors (who seemed too focused on being anti Eagles to find their own way to succeed).

Five reasons to watch Fremantle in 2020

Again!

Footy is back, but do we care?

I’m with you Pete. Can anyone remember throwing the toys out of the cot after certain results and saying “I’m done with watching this”? Some members microwaved their membership cards, fans berated their own players. – Ya never miss ya water ’till ya dry! – I want it back too.

Footy is back, but do we care?

NSW’s handling of the pandemic was poor and Vic is not much better. Both lack control & are still registering new active cases. NSW active cases are 13% of all cases Vic is 7%.
WA is under 1% & SA is 0. Winter is no threat to WA & SA, unless they invite in people from the hot spots (where there is still a risk of another spike) . I don’t see Aust opening international borders for the same reason. Given the TV rights are worth $18 Million per round, only a simple, poverty mentality would risk another shut down by entertaining free travel to NSW or Vic, much less send players to a hub there!

Footy is back, but do we care?

Not losing sleep over Paul not watching ? 😊

Footy is back, but do we care?

It may make teams concentrate on their own state and pick players they know. All teams have academies now and I would like to see teams retain more home grown players, (as long as NSW & Qld continue to benefit from their academies).

Footy is back, but do we care?

Using logic or intelligence, (which rules out all those in the media predicting a hub in Melbourne) Victoria was never a realistic chance for a hub. At present Vic / Tas active cases are at 7% of total cases. NSW is over 13%. The states doing best are Qld 1.2%, WA 0.9% SA, 0%. So it’s understandable that borders are closed for now. We need Vic & NSW to get control so the WA & SA borders can open. But what if there’s a winter spike? Will Vic & NSW teams hub in WA & SA?

Footy is back, but do we care?

That’s just mean 😂 but it’s funny.

Footy is back, but do we care?

Come on Brendon, stop complaining. Patrick Dangerfield’s comment (aimed at Caroline Wilson) comes to mind “Some people are never happy unless they’re unhappy” The game is back – let those who want it stand up and take it on.

Footy is back, but do we care?

Agree WCE. Cripps is a gun. I actually managed to fit 16 players in my top 10, just to go the extra mile 😊 Liam Ryan, Dom Sheed, Tom Barrass, Josh Kennedy and Lewis Jetta’s kicking

well Richmond took 30 years to win just 18! furrow your brow, concentrate and reflect on the possibility of ever catching the eagles Richie! Sweet dreams.

one win? We’ have 26 to 18
2 flags? we have 4. Realist – Delusional.

State league rubbish doesn’t count cellar dweller. 2 AFL premierships in 30 years is where you sit.

From your childish comments above it’s unlikely you can follow even simple facts but try – if you want some “reality.
Richmond have only won 5 games in Perth against the Eagles in their miserable history. That’s less than Eagles grand finals! (We’re talking AFL not state league rubbish)
Head to head its 26 to 18 at all venues. And at the MCG it’s 8 each.
WCE own Richmond! now back to your mindless use of the vernacular in the land of make believe.

Thank goodness sanity prevailed! No one outside Victoria thought there were going to be suspensions or $100K fines. Having a chuckle listening to the outrage from the buffoons who embarrassed themselves with their preemptive commentary. The dearth of quality journalism in that state is indicative of the of integrity in that industry.

Draft picks off the table, but Crows facing heavy penalties for training breach

Sorry, by listing ages at the end of next year 2021, I may have confused the issue.
We shouldn’t compare Richmond with the Eagles though. WCE have stayed in contention through planning and the WA sporting lifestyle for decades (like the Wildcats). Richmond are perennial cellar dwellers who poked their heads up for a burst on the back of ridiculous fixture advantages. If they stay with the Eagles over the next 20 years, that would be something to talk about.

I forgot Martin didn’t make the 2019 all-Aust team. His start to the year wasn’t at all Aust standards, though he improved by the end. Was it a lack of motivation earlier in the year? If so, could a lack of motivation reign in a 2nd Richmond great’s career? He’ll be 30 at the end of 2021.
7 of 10 in the list will be over 30 by the end of next year. Here’s their ages at the end of ’21:
Shane Edwards 33
Bachar Houli 33
Jack Riewoldt 33
Trent Cotchin 32
Dustin Martin 30
Dylan Grimes 30
Kane Lambert 30

I understand the greater logistics and costs involved with relocating the Vic teams (and this isn’t just a parochial position), but If Melbourne keeps increasing active cases and 8 -10 teams freely move through the state there’s a greater risk that someone tests positive. SA are down to 3 active cases & WA is on 11. These states shouldn’t open borders to higher infection areas.

Are the two WA clubs victims of the AFL's Vic bias?

Juvanile. And not worth the time.

Jack Rewoldt turned 31 last year as did Shane Edwards. Really can’t see any value for teams like Adelaide & Freo recruiting a player for 1 year, maybe 2 at best. There’s a real possibility of both having a final year drop in form.
Adelaide: Perhaps looking at Rankine or Lukosius for the future
Fremantle: Interested in recruiting WA players so Aaron Naughton & Jason Johannison stand out. The Carlton crew of Cripps, McGovern, Petrevski-Seaton, & Fisher would also be of interest.
West Coast have a strong link to Deven Robertson. He will remain on their radar for a while too.

Your AFL club's ideal recruit

I like the 3 hubs, but in no way should we have a hub in the Corona virus hot spot; Victoria.
Certainly the safer, (& warmer) states WA SA and maybe NT. Start in June 18, with a possibility of having crowds by the end of 5 weeks (July 23). Then re-assess if it’s possible start fly in fly out or rotate the hubs to other states.
