I think we need to wait for the matches between the two later this season before anyone can say which way the title is going. Those six points are always the most defining. If Real Madrid take all three points in the first El Classico without dropping any points up until that point, then I think you can just about wrap it up, but not a second before that happens.

As for Spanish teams wrestling domination off of English teams…I think a better description of what is happening is that Barcelona and Real Madrid, the two best teams in the world at the moment, are just simply ahead of the rest at the moment. Is that Spanish club football overtaking that in England? Not really. It’s just two good teams bucking a trend. The Premier League is still the best represented league in the Champions League and offers more winning candidates than any other.

Real Madrid and the Portuguese prodigies

Perhaps it would be better to question the MRP’s role. Is it right that the MRP doesn’t have the ability to overturn this sort of decision because at the time it seemed 50/50? Personally, I don’t think the tackle warranted a red card, but at the same time, when I saw it in real time, I thought that it was the sort of tackle Williams would love to punish with a straight red. Should the MRP be allowed to overturn decisions that are clear cut after the fact? For the record, though upon reviewing replays I don’t think it was a straight red, I can certainly see that there is a valid interpretation of the rules that would suggest it was a straight red, and I think the MRP came to the right conclusion on the matter. I do think though that the description of the objection as “frivolous” is over the top and simplifies what was not a simple matter.

The Foschini red card was not a clear cut red card offence, and hence terming a challenge to that suspension “frivolous” is not fair on the club. The club should not be punished further for trying to defend a player when there was a clear case to suggest the red card was incorrectly given. If that is how the MRP works, then perhaps this conversation should be opened up to discuss the role of the MRP and the sorts of decisions they can come to. It’s far too black and white if a reasonable challenge, and I believe Victory’s was a reasonable challenge, can be shut down and punished further with such little consideration, and for me, that defeats the purpose of having a MRP. The MRP should be able to operate in grey areas, instead of just black and white.

A-League round five talking points

Almost mate, it’s the Glazers. Sir Alex has always insisted money isn’t an issue, but the player and value in the market. I for one think that if there’s a player out there that fits what United need (I’m not convinced Sneijder is that player) then United should just cough up what is needed, but that’s not really Sir Alex’s way. Tom Cleverley is proving a genuine talent, so perhaps Sir Alex is looking for another bit of inspiration from the academy.

I don’t know just how United are living on past glories though. They are defending champions, and are still comfortably second in the league. The calls for a midfielder aren’t neccesarily new, there’s been the thought that United need midfielders for some time now, but still they’ve managed to win four of the last five Premier League titles. I’m sure Wayne Rooney will be reinstated to his usual role sooner rather than later.

Rooney is not United's midfield answer

I had no idea this would be live on One HD. I occassionally purchase the PPVs. It really is a very entertaining sport, and it’s interesting to see how big it has gotten since that Bonnar v Griffin fight.

It’s quite a good idea from the UFC. Put on one of the biggest (both literally and figuratively) on FTA television, and watch the ratings soar. I wonder if they’d ever consider putting more of these events on FTA television. You would figure if the numbers soar for FTA viewing, they’d be able to make a lot, maybe more, money from advertising than they do from paid events.

As for the fight itself itself, should be an interesting contest. Two solid fighters. About as athletic as you’ll find in the heavyweight division, hopefully it goes at least three rounds.
