Yes IAP. Land mismanagement appears to be such a big factor but so many just want to lay it all on “climate change”.

I’m going to start reading Joanne Nova’s site.

AFL officially confirms State of Origin match

Yes Jonboy, including India; the country that will shortly be the most populated on the planet! I’ve read that over 300 million are still not connected to the grid according to the Institute For Energy Research in July 2017.

Wait till they start being connected.

I don’t know which political parties were in power or when people may have or may not have begun complaining about the current bushfire/land management protocols when they were implemented. What I do know is that some people who do appear to have detailed experience and knowledge regarding this subject (and may actually know what they are talking about) are definitely raising concerns now.

At the very least,we should be keeping an open mind about such things before shouting from the roof tops ‘It’s all climate change”.

I stuffed up a bit of my last post.

Just ignore this part –

Here we have other important people who mention green tape:-

Sydney Morning Herald
By Tim Barlass – 9th December 2019
Fire captain Brian Williams, 73, vice-president of the Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, supports the prescribed burn argument. He spoke after a 12-hour night shift fighting the Three Mile fire burning north-east of Wiseman’s Ferry.
Mr Williams said: “The hazard-approval process is what is stuffing the whole process.
“It is bogged down by green [environmental] and red tape which makes getting approval for a prescribed burn a very slow and complex process.
“They have introduced a system that makes it virtually impossible to manage the bush in a sustainable way. I am just one of thousands of volunteers out there who are frustrated.”

Here’s parts of Vic Jurkis’ open letter to the Prime Minister on online opinion.com 19th Nov 2019-
Vic Jurskis has been a forester for 40 years. He has published extensively in academic journals. He is the author of Firestick Ecology: fairdinkum science in plain English (Connor Court, 2015). A fellow of the Institute of Foresters of Australia, the body representing more than 1200 forestry professionals
“People are losing their lives, and we are experiencing unprecedented environmental, social and economic destruction as a result of bad politics… Aborigines arrived about 65,000 years ago and established the world’s most durable culture. They maintained healthy and safe landscapes (including the rich biodiversity that greeted Europeans) across Australia through 40,000 years of sometimes extreme climate change….The current weather and wildfire situation is neither unprecedented nor unexpected. around Sydney and Parramatta with green branches, losing only one hut and a few gardens and fences in Sydney, and a hut, outbuildings and a stack of Our National Capital was incinerated in 2003 and our “Nation Charred” after fire spotted ….The House of Reps Inquiry received evidence from experienced land managers right across Australia, and rediscovered the simple answer that we need to restore mild fire across the landscape. However, the land management and emergency services bureaucracies in some eastern states boycotted the Inquiry, and the Green member put in a dissenting report. This set the scene for the COAG Inquiry whereby the emergency services bureaucrats and junk scientists swept traditional knowledge, history, commonsense and pragmatic science under the table. They put ‘education’, disaster warnings and evacuations in place of sensible management. This paved the way for ongoing disasters and ever-increasing funding of their bailiwicks….
The High Court’s Mabo decision should have set the scene for responsible ……How many more Inquiries and Royal Commissions do we need, to wake up to what Aboriginal people learnt 60,000 years ago, European explorers learnt two centuries ago and foresters relearnt 50 years ago?
Instead of wasting billions of dollars on ineffective waterbombers, silly computer models and hugely expensive emergency bureaucracies which are rewarded with increased funding after every disaster, we need only spend a miniscule fraction on reinstating frequent mild fire and safe and healthy landscapes.”

And,here we have a protest that I found on JoanneNova’s website which was from an ABC Gippsland Vic article:-
Protesters stopped a prescribed burn from going ahead at Nowa Nowa. Apparently the protesters didn’t want animals to die and CO2 to be released.

There is so much information for anyone who wants to look.

I’m happy to listen to anyone say that we have even come remotely close to having met our Royal Commission prescribed-burns recommendation in Victoria.

Thanx alot Jonboy.

For anyone interested,Jane Marwick has been filling in for John Stanley on 2gb,3aw,and 4bc from 8pm weeknights. She has devoted much of her programme time to the bushfires and has interviewed repeatedly quite a few people including –

Roger Underwood (Roger Underwood has over 40 years experience in bushfire management in Australia and overseas. He was formerly General Manager of The Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) in Western Australia,a regional and district manager,a research manager and bushfire specialist. He received a Member of the Order of Australia (AM)) IN 2018 “For significant service to the community of Western Australia through forestry and bushfire management, and as an historian and writer”.

and

Retired Monash University bush fire researcher and former CSIRO scientist and receiver of the Medal of the Order of Australia(OAM) David Packham.

There may be podcasts and repeats online. They have also contributed to various websites – just Google.

I heard Roger’s response last night to Steve Warrington’s recent comment that fuel reduction burns are “not a silver bullet” to future fire prevention. Steve also is quoted as saying “Some of the hysteria that this will be the solution to all our problems is really just quite an emotional load of rubbish, to be honest,” . Steve is the current Vic CFA Chief Fire Officer.

Roger’s response was that Steve’s statements are not surprising since it was under the watch of Steve that the fuel load in Vic Forests has risen to such dangerous levels (I am paraphrasing here what Roger was saying. Roger says this. I have not checked to confirm if Steve has been in charge since the 2009 Royal Commission-Michael44). Roger suggested that Steve has decided to try and cover his backside from the inevitable questions that will be asked and are already being asked.

Land and fuel management –
Recommendation 56 – The State fund and commit to implementing a long-term program of prescribed burning based on an annual rolling target of 5 per cent minimum of public land.

Outcome:

Not achieved.

The holiday in Hawai wasn’t a great look for the PM but the calls for him to be sacked by the protesters is way over the top. As Jonboy suggested, I’ve heard that the states have to ask the Commonwealth to get involved to help fight the fires before the PM can do what he and his government are now doing.
IAP said – “Morrison doesn’t even have control over the response, nor has he passed the laws that have created these conditions (state and local governments have), but the media have done a total number on him.”
Yes,this is what I’m hearing too IAP. Vitriol (unfair) against Morrision.
Ok,well…yes, the PM was in favour of keeping the Adani coal mine but,the PM is saying we are meeting out Paris Agreement. I don’t know if this is true, but, that is what he is saying. I haven’t heard anyone saying that we are not online to meet the Paris Agreement. What I have heard the government saying is that they are in favour of keeping to the Paris agreement but in a way that doesn’t destroy our economy and our standard-of-living. Now,if we close it, countries like India and China will try and buy coal from other countries. If they are able to buy it elsewhere, they will. Now,if on the small chance that no one in the world was willing to sell coal to them, what would happen to India’s and China’s economies and what effect on their peoples? Back to the dark ages for so many. Why would we wish that on them?

Regarding the fires, maybe proposed climate change is having an effect – I mean,we are having these fires in December which is pretty early on in summer. Having said that,as some of the others here have stated, from what I am hearing, the main reasons for these fires is due to intentional or unintentional human activity, lack of sufficient burning off during the spring and autumn periods(i.e lack of sufficient starting of “cool fires” to get rid of fuel loads-which is apparently what the Aboriginals used to do successfully for 1000’s of years),lack of clearing of access tracks and trails to allow the emergency people to get their men and vehicles in to fight the fires,as well as “green tape” whereby some local councils have introduced harsh penalties for landholders who choose to clear their land of potential bushfire hazards.
In regards to inadequate starting of cool fires,I have heard the Vic Premier Daniel Andrews and others state that we don’t get as many suitable days anymore in order to implement an adequate level of cool burns. Well, this may or may not be the case, but, what I have heard is quite a few people who have stated that what Mr Andrews is not telling us is that it has become so hard to implement cool burns from a bureaucracy point of view. I’ve heard people say that in order to implement, a 40 to 50 page proposal plan needs to be written up and ticked up by multiple levels of authority before planned cool burn can be done. By then, the said suitable weather day may have passed already. These people say that a 2-3 page proposal is all that is needed. Now, I am not saying this is true, but I am hearing it from multiple people on radio in the past couple of weeks.

Nice one Slane. 🙂 . Sorry to all the good West Coasters out there. 🙂

The AFL fixture is biased towards Victorian clubs

I’ve become alot more sceptical of Champion Data lately.

I think they rated West Coast’s list somewhere between 9th and 11th best after their 2018 premiership . And,Richmond in the last couple of years haven’t rated very highly on some of Champion Data’s supposed key-performance stats and yet have been a top 4 side in that time.

The AFL fixture is biased towards Victorian clubs

“You can’t deny it, unfortunately it’s real and factual.”

Umm, yes we can as it is unreal and not factual.

The AFL fixture is biased towards Victorian clubs

“WC was hated by almost everyone except their fans eg VFL & WAFL. ”

I can’t remember anyone in Victoria hating on West Coast when they came into the comp? I know that I was excited to have them join. I wanted a national competition. Hated by almost everyone???

Oh, I forgot that Jack also suffered that wrist injury this year as well.

Sorry, didn’t mean to make it about Jack. Just saying that Richmond fans know that Jack’s time will come. And,hopefully not yet, but Buddy has had his injuries and is older again.

No one I think is questioning what Josh Kennedy has been. The question is whether he still can be that forward star for the Eagles in the future. We’ll find out>

Eagles to put Kennedy to work

Jack is 14 months younger,so not much difference. Jack has had a pretty good run with injuries until his recent pcl injury so I’m hoping he can go on for quite a while yet. But, key position forward’s bodies have to go thru alot.

Eagles to put Kennedy to work

“their comes a time for all players (and us as well).”

Umm,sorry for stating the bleeding obvious. 🙂

Eagles to put Kennedy to work

Ok, I’ve only skimmed the article and comments, so maybe I’m wrong WCE,but I don’t think anyone is denying that JK has been a star??

He will go down as a champion of the game in my book, but, age catches up with everyone. Are his injuries due to age? Well, maybe or maybe not. But, 32 yo key position forwards have had years of having defenders plow into them. It takes it’s toll. His body has probably been through alot.

It’s not a question of whether JK has been a star or not…he has been an out-and-out star. But, has his time come? No one knows and we will find out. I know that Jack Riewoldt is only a year or 2 behind him. I’m hoping that Jack will find a way to hold onto his great form over the last few years, but, their comes a time for all players (and us as well).

So,I didn’t have to look very far to find an example of Larriken’s wisdom. —

“the stupid comments show why so many people hate everything richmond, immaturity.”

Oh Larriken. Really??

Martin is verging on immortality

Yeah, I know Ritchie. You’re probably right, but I see that Larriken has over 200 comments made here,so sometimes it’s hard to resist countering the ongoing c#ap.

Martin is verging on immortality

What evidence do you have to support your claim Larrikin?

Martin is verging on immortality

Yes Peter. As Ritchie said, the word is prob overused/misused.

How Richmond built a dynasty

Yeah, Richmond haven’t built a dynasty.

Brisbane, Hawthorn, and Geelong still clearly ahead of the Tiges over the last 20 years

Still, the Tiges have done great. At the end of 2016,it all looked pretty much over for the boys. What a turn around.

I’ll just add a couple more names that helped turn everything around – Ben Crowe and Emma Murray.

I heard Ben Crowe being interviewed on SEN during the week. So impressive. What he has to say about athletes turning their sporting lives around can probably be applied to life in general. And, Emma Murray is saying today that she thinks she could help Nick Kyrgios.
