I’m intrigued by the points system you’ve incorporated here.
The current Meta is pace and forward pressure created by smalls (Richmond) vs clinical ball movement to several talls (West Coast) with other clubs somewhere in between.
With this in mind, the Ranking of Jack Reiwoldt seems far to low when put into a meta ranking as his influence on Richmonds game style is the main reason it works.
Then I looked up and saw Josh Kelly just above him in 68th!! True, he has been injured yet GWS has been kicking arse since his return.

The AFL's top 99 players in 2018

I wasn’t aware there was a floor.
Is it 95% or a bit lower?
I was going to suggest the bottom 4 be given a 5% cumulative increase to their salary cap to a max of 125% for a 2 year period allowing them to dangle a huge carrot but having to revert to parity soon after.

Less is more when it comes to AFL trades

And those wins have come nimby outscoring their opponents by an average of 55 points!

The Lions have won 2 away, 1 vs a top 8 side and are at home next after resting their defensive general. They’re in a roll and every opponent should be vary wary.

AFL Power Rankings 2018: Round 17

Last year I had written Gardiner off completely but he’s now having a career defining year.
McStay is a great contested mark and has finally sought some kicking coaching and its paying dividends.
Cutler is also having a career best year and his run off half back and through the middle is top shelf.

Fagan has inspired improvement from many players. Luey Taylor has improved, Josh Walker’s last 3 games have been above his pay grade and most of all, Daniel Rich has turned into an A grader that breaks tackles and makes them stick.

With the top shelf kids showing they’re all going to be stars the future is bright in Brisbane

Which Round 17 slip up will prove the most costly?

The Lions second tier is gaining some belief from its exciting youngsters.
I just heard it was Jarrod Berry who initiated the team jumper ritual at the start of the game. They’ve won all 3 that they’ve done that.

The Lions are also guaranteed a top 7 pick in this years draft, have Starcevich pick 15 from last year untried, Wooller and Balanden still developing. There is still more upside to come and with some smart trading will push for finals over the next 2 years.

Which Round 17 slip up will prove the most costly?

Power were 4th were they?
My bad.

Which Round 17 slip up will prove the most costly?

Some very interesting numbers from round 17.
Only 4 of the top 10 teams won on the weekend.
The top 3 from round 16 all lost.
Teams 11-16 on the ladder had 5/6 wins.
3 of those wins vs top 8 sides.
The best current winning streak in the comp is Brisbane with 3.

Adelaide should watch out this weekend. There will be 25 thousand at the Gabba and if the Lions get a sniff the may well put them to the sword. The Lions average winning margin this year is 55.2 points!

Which Round 17 slip up will prove the most costly?

The Lions deserved their spot this year.
They played hard at it footy in trying conditions and came up with the goods when it mattered.
All eyes will be on the Katie Brennan situation leading in to the GF. For her sake, I hope she gets in but it would be a bonus for the Lions if she misses.
The Lions have the squad and the temperament to win the big one and I wish all the girls luck on Saturday

Lions won't look back ahead of this year's AFLW grand final

Good to hear thanks!

AFL preview series: Gold Coast Suns – 18th

The Suns culture and the environment they live in a very important points.
Carmichael Hunt brought a big bag of coke when he arrived on the coast and it caused all sorts of dramas.
Rocket couldn’t grab the attention of the millenials who spend more time at the hairdresses than the gym. Not that I can blame as the Coast has some of the hottest girls in the world and none of them talk Footy.
Surfing, yes. Not Footy.
Finding a niche where the players can feel comfortable and involved and aren’t distracted by the Coast way of life will be a huge bonus for the club going forward.

AFL preview series: Gold Coast Suns – 18th

They did look sharp in the aflx so Dew has drilled them well.
Spending 5yrs doing weights in a tin shed seriously hampered all the skinny kids but i dont see a lot of bulk running around.
Dew’s biggest hurdle will be re-signing all the 2016 draftees. Get those and they may have a future.

AFL preview series: Gold Coast Suns – 18th

Glowing?
You shot them down and buried them in the back yard!!!
I’ll provide the tombstone though:
The Suns have to move out of their training base in March for the Games too and go to Bond uni.
No home training, no home games, no Ablett, no chance.

AFL preview series: Gold Coast Suns – 18th

The selectors do deserve credit for their test and T20 teams. I for one thought they’d dropped their marbels all over the floor when they picked the Marsh bros.

I’m glad someone mentioned scheduling.
The BBL had massive public support and the final should have been considered a show case.

Triple M’s commentary was fantastic and they deserve credit.

Ben Cummins deserves special mention for finally delivering a full series and showing us why he was so hyped as an 18 yr old. Definitely a star on the rise.

Elyse Perry may well pull a Cameron Smith this year by winning everything she plays as captain and being the best in the country and perhaps the world.
She. Is. Awesome.

Ten things we learned from the Australian summer of cricket

I actually agree that Kohli and ABdV or better all round batsmen as they dominate in all formats.
Smith is hands down the best TEST batsmen in the world.

Ten things we learned from the Australian summer of cricket

Wow! I wish I’d thought of that Michael!
Loved the Triple M team.

Ten things we learned from the Australian summer of cricket

1) Agree
2) Agree
A T20 world cup would look good in the trophy cabinet.
Punter is the right choice and should be paid accordingly.

Australia needs a specialist T20I coach

Me thinks Elyse Perry would hold her own against the men

Five quick takes from AFLW Round 1

Population of 320mil vs 24mil.
They get more people to Friday night college football than the NRL gets to the Grand Final.
And with huge TV audiences the players make a killing.

Without having been there, what are the main markets after NFL, NBA, MLB?
Ice Hockey is big up north. NASCAR?

Why Lions fans deserve to be optimistic

Google “most saturated sports country” it was no2 after Roy n IF in The Australian. The next 5 links also had Aussies on top.
Besides, Google is always right ?

Why Lions fans deserve to be optimistic

According to Google, Australia is the most saturated sporting country on the planet.

Why Lions fans deserve to be optimistic

So the AFL can collect Billions in revenue but if one of their teams fails financially they should be thrown on the trash heap???

Here’s a better idea: why don’t the AFL sponsor Netball, Hockey and Ariel Skiing.
Aussies are world class in those sports and could use some more funding.

Why Lions fans deserve to be optimistic

Yep, Beams is a gun.
I personally didn’t pick him as captain but in hindsight it was the correct desicision.
Several times last year he moved forward and took contested marks before calmly slotting captains goals.
If he can stay injury free then a top 5 in the Brownlow is well with in grasp.

Yes Andrew,
I’m Excited!!
Been doing little fist pumps ever time one of those kids re-signs ✊✊

Thanks JL! Great insights from an Aussie legend.

I was particularly interested to hear about Warnie and the pool table. I too used to practice leggies on our wonky old pool table after watching Warnie!

Punter was the best fielder I have seen. I remember when Jonty Rhodes toured Australia and the commentators used to marvel at his dash and athleticism. Then they bought up a run out stat for ODI’s. Rhodes was second best in the world, effecting a run out every 5 matches. Ricky was first. 1 every 2.4 matches!
