Heard a rumour…
Apparently the Lions will be provided with a more permanent location in Melbourne as their home away from home (to deal with future covid eventualities). The AFL is checking out an oval in the immediate north of the city on Brunswick Street. Even has an historical old stand they could do up…

Also heard that if the NSW shut down occurs which is very possible, Sydney will be rushed here early and they too could get a more permanent away location. AFL is checking out an oval down near the Grand Prix circuit…

Both clubs will assume the names of their respective suburbs to encourage local support while they stay here…

Remaining interstate clubs will be forced to play permanent derbies including GC vs GWS for the rest of the year…

Wonder where AFL gets their ideas from seriously…

Lions bracing for longer stint in Victoria

Honestly thought the Blues would take the points last night. For me it started not long after the bounce when Casboult missed (by a long way) a very kickable goal. Seriously this bloke is still being persisted with as a ‘tall’ rather than just play a better player (such as McDonald – I agree PeteB). While the loss doesnt rest wholly on him, if thats the prevailing attitude the Blues will struggle this year.
On the flip side, solid win Magpies. De Goey looks better mainly forward.

Blues not feeling the heat after poor start

Admittedly not a follower of either team, but dont know why they cant co-exist the jumpers. Port is the only expansionist (to AFL) team with history and is a 20year+ older club than the Collingwoods. Sure Port agreed to certain terms back in 1996 prior to joining but we need to move on. Asking for the Showdown and maybe one or two other games a season in their original jumper seems reasonable to me. Get over it Eddie.

"I'll come back if they give it": Eddie fires up over Port's latest 'Prison Bar' jersey bid

Ridiculous rubbish about being out of contention after 2 games. Nothing but click bait and yes Ive responded. Blues will win.

Someone's season ends on Thursday night

Should we be saying that hating Collingwood is politically incorrect?

Collingwood is one of Australia's greatest sporting clubs

A famous coach once said “…football’s (not) a matter of life and death…its more important than that”. And in a lot of respects that IS true. Everyone is born, everyone will die. Its what you do in that life between and how you live that life that is truly important.

So yes, footy is life for a lot of people and that’s perfectly fine. Im proud our sport has some of the most passionate and dedicated supporters on the planet albeit some are misguided in black & white (when they could be in yellow & black). But lets celebrate that passion and keep these articles going when we need to express our feelings! Thanks Les.

Why Collingwood supporter frustration needs to be taken seriously

Wow, put it like that, its incredible.

The tyranny of the Magpies

Great article Les. As a Tiger supporter that suffered through all those false dawns of 37 years, i feel your pain. Sure, also as a Tiger supporter its good that we’ve now won three out of four and the Pies have only won one this century. The warmth of that will glow strongly for a few years yet.

Agree in hindsight, it looks blindingly obvious now that Collingwood made the wrong call to stick with the transition after 2010. McGuire thinking he couldnt go back on what he agreed, had to let Malthouse go to maintain credibility. But you wonder now couldnt they have discussed that with Bucks a little more and if need be let him go, to return later with more experience? We’ll never know but he’s certainly a better coach now than he was in 2012. And you’d hope so too. But whether he’s the answer only time will tell and arguably he must be judged fairly, from within without prejudice either way.

But for this trade season it may not be the end of the world. The situation with Treloar had by a lot of accounts become toxic. Arguably yes, that’s the administration’s fault. Stephenson again is a victim of what seems to be a failure to develop maturity in a person as much as a failure to develop footballers. The clubs that can do both – Hawthorn, Sydney, Geelong and now Richmond this century seem to be able to do this as second nature and part of their culture.

Which leads to the point: McGuire must go. His mates and supporters need to be replaced in an effort to overhaul that off-field environment. McGuire loves the Pies – there is no greater club supporter in this country – but his love must be strong enough to step aside and allow a new team in there. A strong part of me wants to see Edward Everywhere remain but if they want success the Maggies, its time for a change. A team who can be objective on Bucks and the entire list and support staff.

The tyranny of the Magpies

He is one of the greatest big time players Ive seen. Take away 2018 Prelim in which arguably he should never have played and his record stands against anyone. Hard to compare him to a Jordan or even LBJ on a basketball court as the size (both playing area and team numbers) favours the standouts. But this is where more credit is due the Tiger backs and mids who did an awesome job for so long to get the ball to Dusty where he does the most damage – around goal.

You can be brilliant like a Skilton or a Bulldog Murray but really Dusty’s feats are exacerbated by the performers around him. Even Brady had a great offensive line and a couple of stand out receivers (one of whom has followed him to the Buccs) so the comparisons must be tempered by the sport.

The inevitable truth: No-one had a chance against Dustin Martin

Still whinging about Geelong’s 2017 qualifying final at the MCG when they’d played home finals there for 100+ years previously? Seriously? And really…the asterix???
One of the most impressive things Dimma did this year was during the talk of the asterix early days he was the first to say any asterix would denote an outstanding premiership rather than a sub-par one. All of a sudden the discussion shifted. It was officially the toughest of all.

But to the question? Brisbane or Hawthorn’s stand out given their 4 consecutive grand finals. Brisbane fell away after 2004 whereas Hawthorn had built impressively from 2010. Brisbane for playing away, Hawthorn for consistency over a longer period 2009 notwithstanding. Hard to split and i will sit on the fence.

But if the Tigers somehow crack it for another next year, it will be an outstanding feat.

Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn or Richmond: Which dynasty has been the best?

If people dont see this bloke as one of the smartest going round then they are kidding themselves. Lets hope he doesnt leave for the demotion of getting McLaughlin’s job when he finishes.

Brendon Gale's incredible prediction for Richmond ten years ago

Stick to day…talk about torture waiting for it to happen. Caro and Aly are right for a change – if youre a supporter of one of the teams you want a day game. Stuff this night cr@p.

Waleed Aly's stinging sledge for anyone who liked the night AFL grand final

Picked the magpies last week and surprised it got so close. They are a better team than Geelong if both play to their capacity. Collingwood can do it again this week.

2020 AFL semi-finals preview

Im not so sure about all this. take out two or three of your best playmakers and see how any club fares. DeGoey has had a terrible season based on injury and stuff coming back to haunt him from years ago. Treloar is such a playmaker and how many games has he played?? How many other injuries have occurred throughout the season at critical times? Not to make excuses but Collingwood appears to have had some injury issues over the last few years which throws consistency around.
If anything, perhaps a really hard look at the injuries and recovery processes, the training and the injury prevention should be the main focus going forward.

I dont think they’re far away at all and given they travel well generally, wouldn’t be surprised to see them knock over the Weagles over there.

Collingwood's broken system is doomed to fail

Ive just got this sinking feeling the Crows may knock us off in Adelaide. If so, and expecting both Eagles and Cats to win we’ll be facing a massive test. The flip side is that we’re surely due to beat the Crows over there for the first time in six years when we just got over the line in that barnstorming finish to the 2014 season, later derailed at the same ground.

In fact contrary to popular belief our record against Port over there is better than against the Crows in the same four five year period and we didnt really get thumped this year playing a fairly ordinary side (hello Josh Caddy).

The AFL finals equation: Every contender's best and worst case scenarios

You mean that’s not right?

The AFL finals equation: Every contender's best and worst case scenarios

Right here, right now its Geelong’s premiership to lose. They are a far different team that dominated at KP but couldnt get through to the GF.

Possibly the best thing for them was to play most of their season away from KP and get on a roll and building the self belief. Win or somehow lose tomorrow night, it doesn’t matter for them. Some could argue a close loss will even help them come finals time. Geelong is clear favourites for mine, and it would be possibly their most disappointing season since 2008 to not win the GF from here.

Geelong can take another big step this year

University.

Where will Taylor Walker go if he leaves Adelaide?

Yeah not a great look that, accentuating a shove from Grimes. But lets face it, every club has stagers and its been a part of football good or bad for decades. Saw one of Sheedy’s worst in his playing days the other day on The Front Bar. But still find it hard to forgive John Nicholls for costing our capitan (and later club saviour) Neville Crowe his place in the 67 GF in possibly the worst ever outcome of staging for a free kick.

Tigers star Grimes receives death threats

Clearly Geelong’s to lose. Hard to see how they could stuff it up from here.

It's time to recognise the Cats as premiership favourites

Id reckon the best person to know when to replace the Hawthorn coach is Alistair Clarkson. And then you’re right it will probably be a Sam Mitchell in an ordered handover unlike the Bucks/Mick debacle. But right now i dont see the point of throwing Mitchell into the kitchen until he’s judged ready.

Clarko, it's time to go

Nailed it.

If they are serious about replacing Clarko, then they must have a better coach lined up. Who’s that? Brad Scott? Ross Lyon (altho i like the bloke)? John Worsfold?

Spare me.

Clarko, it's time to go

Huge cultural problem. Massive. Should be thrown out of the league. Simply unacceptable. Worst since Carlton’s brown paper bags of the 80s. There should be a royal commission.

Clearly got nothing worthwhile to write about.

Do the Tigers have a serious culture problem?

Its a good point. Most of the NFL coverage has two main commentators- one’s more a special comments, the other play by play, and then one ‘boundary rider’ or at most two (one on each team’s side). Even the MBL only has two or three total.
