36‘ – Penalty Reds
Mafi tackled by Paia’aua and rolls once too often on the ground. Gift penalty and piggy back for the Reds – they’ll plug to just short of the half courtesy of Lance’s boot.
Reds: 10
Rebels: 17

36‘ – Penalty Rebels, and they kick to the Reds 10m, but Wright climbs up and gets the lineout steal.
As I type, it’s knocked on by the Reds, and it’s with Michael Ruru who is absolutely Polaxed by a flying Taniela Tupou. That was a bell-ringer.

Try
34‘ – TRY REBELS – JACK MADDOCKS
The jet continues his good form. Gets the ball on the right edge, looks up and sees a gap between Higginbotham and Caleb Timu (who is having a bit of a mare tonight), slices and dices them, running 40m untouched to dot down. Classy.
Kick is a pearler from Hodge.
Reds: 10
Rebels: 17

Haha, If the Rebels keep the ball away from the Reds forwards, and set piece, they should get it done.

Penalty
31‘ – Penalty Rebels courtesy of a breakdown infringement from JP Smith.
Hodge clears to halfway.

Try
30‘ – TRY REBELS! ANGUS COTTRELL
Good hustle from DHP, who turned and raced back to halfway, before catching the retiring Reds defenders off guard, he pots the ball into touch, where the Reds clear to DHP deep. They push down the left edge, and Maddocks finds Hodge, who throws a lovely no look pass to Ruru, whose tip on to Cottrell is even better. Cottrell is too strong, and bustles under Sorovi from close.
Great, fantastic, excellent Rebels try, and they hit back immediately.
Kick is as tough as they come for Hodge, and nails it. Great strike, and we’re all square.

Try
25‘ – PENALTY TRY – REDS
Yep, penalty try – no other option for the Rebels. Scrum collapsing for a 4th time.
Reds: 10
Rebels: 3

25‘ – Reds penalty advantage again, with a dominant scrum 5m out. The Rebels front row is folding under some immense pressure.
Last chance before a yellow card, rolling in collapsing the scrum the problem. Tetera Faulkner is under immense pressure at scrum time.
As I type, the Reds have spent 5 minutes parked on the Rebels line, and, with the scrum re-setting for the fourth time in a row, they’ll fancy their chances at a penalty try.
Reds: 3
Rebels: 3

23‘ – Penalty advantage for the Reds, and Pai’aua’s kick drifts into touch, so we’ll come back for the penalty. That came from 14 phases of pick and drives that came to nothing before it. Some very, very willing defence from both sides tonight, especially in the forwards.
Reds: 3
Rebels: 3

20‘ – Lovely exit from the Rebels, through Ruru’s box kick.
It came off the turnover from the Reds who had a 5m lineout on the Rebels line, but overthrew.

17‘ – Nice check tackle from Hamish Stewart on Mafi who had a head of steam up off his own kick.
Knock on Parling off the resulting phase, and the Reds have a scrum on the Rebels 10.

Penalty Goal
13‘ – Reds with a gift three points courtesy of a Mafi infringement at breakdown time – Lance bangs it over from 24m out right in front.
Reds: 3

10‘ – Well, some good continuity from the Rebels, but the Reds were very up to the task – a couple of big, big shots in defence. The Melbourne side win a penalty in the end for the Reds being a little eager in at the breakdown. Hodge will have a dip at goal from 30m back to the right of the upright, and he bangs it over – nice strike.
Rebels by 3 with 10 gone.

6‘ – Slice tackle from Sorovi on Koroibete off the half break from Tom English, cuts down some promising Rebels attack.
Nice scramble from the Reds. As I type, the Rebels win the lineout against the throw, and it’s with Mafi 22m out.
Reds: 0
Rebels: 0

4‘ – Nice defence from the Rebels, they hold Rodda up in tight, and don’t let his knees hit the ground. Kill it in the maul, and the Rebels will scrum on their own 22.

3‘ – Penalty Reds
Angus Cottrell pinned for not rolling, call could’ve gone either way, but regardless, ball is out with a Reds lineout 30m out.

80‘ – MATCH RESULT: Ireland have secured the Lansdowne Cup, courtesy of a 20-16 win over the Wallabies in a draining battle in Sydney on Saturday night. Johnny Sexton kicked a 79th minute penalty to seal things.

Full Time
80‘ – Huge call here. Australia on the 10th phase looked certain to score on the right edge, Foley pushes forward and throws his left to right – Stockton with a little brush on it? Maybe?
No clear and obvious evidence that the ball has touched him – therefore, ball into touch, and the Irish will have the feed into the lineout.
Last play of the game. Game over.

79‘ – Penalty Goal Ireland
Tolu Latu is upset. He gets pinged for not releasing the Irish man on the ground, and Sexton will have a strike from 38m out on the angle.
Nails it down the middle. So cool under pressure – lovely strike.

77‘ – Penalty Ireland
I hate this rule, Folau goes in for the tackle, jamming on the inside man, and his outside hand happens to knock the ball down. Yes, traditionally it’s a penalty – but I hate that rule.
3 minutes to run, and this game is so exciting.
Australia: 16
Ireland: 17
Wallabies vs Ireland: Third Test live scores, blog
76‘ – Forward pass from Joe Powell on halfway – questionable, but this game is enthralling.
As I type, the ball shifts left to the Irish wing, and Hodge comes up with a huge cover tackle into touch. Both sides are so, so willing – but neither can crack the other.
5 to run.

70‘ – Knock On Wallabies.
Folau and Kerevi link in midfield for the line break, and with front foot ball, Powell throws the right to left at Foley’s feet. He knocks it on.
Ireland with the scrum on their 22.

39‘ – TRY REDS – IZACK RODDA
Against the run of play, but nice awareness from Rodda. Maddocks with the clearing kick, and Rodda chased through for the charge down. Collects, and dives over under the sticks.
Kick is a gift, and we’re all locked up!
