Location: regional NSW Likes: StGeorge and Cronulla since childhood in NRL. Barca in the Champions League. But happy to applaud entertaining footy and boo catty play and shitty calls regardless of which team is playing. Played: league, soccer, basketball, swimming, boxing, cricket... until I discovered surfing. Dislikes: Studs raised tackles, sharpened old-school screw in studs, catty/dirty players, cheap shots, players who sook and carry on when their opponents give their own medicine back to them, petty ROAR contributors who throw a tantrum or resort to personal snarkiness when someone has a different opinion to their own. Sooks. Baristas... stop faffing about and pour the bloody milk!

Cannot. Hardly wait. Welcome back Roger

Why All Blacks should let Tuivasa-Sheck return to Warriors early if not needed for World Cup

Penrith didn’t win the comp without Api, and he was a huge loss for Manly before that.

So happy for Wests Tigers to get a win, and to beat Penrith has to be a great boost for the entire club.

I reckon DF is a good fit for Rugby Union as an impact centre. Big, mobile, well balanced runner who is surprisingly fast for his size, he throws an excellent pass, has good offload ability, and has high impact physicality in short bursts of high intensity.

'I had a good look at myself': How a year of soul-searching is making David Fifita a must-pick for Queensland

Thanks for the article Paul. Policing of the stripping rule is laughable. If a defender wants to slow down attacking play all they need do is pretend to be wrestling for possession of the ball and the refs regularly let the tackle go on and on. Sending Waddell to the bin after already awarding a strip was an astonishing irregularity. I’ve never seen it before. Lomax had already been awarded the advantage, i thought this was a ridiculous call… and I’m a StG supporter.

ANALYSIS: Ciraldo gets last laugh after falling-out as Bulldogs down Dragons to ensure Griffin's time is nearly up

Yes, with a strong dose of pick-and-stick to give the combination the best chance to work. It feels like successive coaches have been playing indecisive musical-chairs with the StG spine for a decade.

Thought’s on our best spine combination Adam?

Is that Seibold’s first signing for Manly?

NRL Transfer Centre: Roosters centre given immediate release, Souths swoop for Manly prop, Tigers lock down key rookie

Looking forward to RTS return to league. Welcome back Roger.

NRL Transfer Centre: Roosters centre given immediate release, Souths swoop for Manly prop, Tigers lock down key rookie

Would returning players be eligible? Players returning from RU late in their career like Sonny Bill, Wendel, Matt Rogers… would this provide a golden parachute to subsidise their return to NRL? Did RTS decide too return just a bit too soon?

NRL lucky overseas rugby doesn’t raid ranks more often - marquee system a better bet than latest hare-brained idea

I agree that both teams get a point if scores are level at end of regular time. i hate that one team goes home empty handed. Seems totally justified. I think the golden point drop-goal-athon is garbage, but I know others who love it. I disagree with anything that is disadvantageous for St G… so 2 points for the bye has to stay until the completion of Round 20, after which I am 100% in favour of scrapping the ridiculous gift of 2 points for staying in bed for the weekend.

Changing NRL points system worth a try because current ladder format is flawed

My first memory of Djokovic was him spitting at the Australian team at a Davis Cup tie when the game wasn’t going his way. Look it up. Classy stuff.

It’s time to start showing Novak Djokovic a bit more respect

Dangerous contact? Really? From the cuddler?

Round 9 team lists Late Mail: Cleary doubt, Turbo out, Walker wins at judiciary, Dolphins switch

This is horrible. Forget SOO, a 10 week injury affecting mobility will take RCG until nearly the end of the 2023 season to build back to match fitness. I hope he is back to his best in time for the finals.

Could it be that JW is the best option at 6 for Canberra, and maybe they don’t have another half coming through their system at this time. Canberra clearly decided what JW is worth to Canberra. Maybe, just maybe he doesn’t want the attention or pressure of being The Marquee Player and is happy to accept “only $800,000” per season just to play footy and let the other “stars” do all the heavy lifting with the media and expectations. Almost like going into semi retirement to just enjoy playing footy.

Wighton’s Rabbitohs switch says more about Ricky’s Raiders than flaws in NRL’s chaotic contract system

I heard two Canberra players interviewed on ABC prior to start of season 2023, i think it was during the pre-season trials period. They were talking up 2023 as a premiership opportunity for the Raiders and talking up how much footy IQ Jack had learned and brought back to the club from his 2022 world cup experience, and that he was sharing this with them all. Then Canberra is 5 weeks into the season 2023 with only one win and Penrith running in more than 50 points against them. At that point the penny must have dropped that a premiership is not on the horizon for Canberra. They could well have won over Easts in… 2019? Just needed Leilua to pass the ball to Rapana and it’s a different result for Canberra, for Stuart’s coaching legacy and for Jack. There can be a fine line between first and second place. You don’t get enough credit for running close second.

I do not support publishing player salaries. As a player I would be demanding the players association block this, i think it is completely unreasonable and that it solves nothing. However, I have no objection to third party agreements being published to reveal how much money different clubs have that is additional to the cap.

No more speculation over salary cap sombreros: Why it is time for NRL salaries to finally be made public

Surely one lesson all of us learned in 2022, including Fittler, is that Jake must be in the 17.

Thanks for an article focused on positives. Really great to see the Warriors playing so well, and Newcastle so much more competitive without Ponga on the field.

Three of the best stories in rugby league right now

Gus did not step in to sack Barrett. That’s not what happened. Barrett pulled the pin himself.

ANALYSIS: Raiders survive, not thrive - and someone put Anthony Griffin out of his misery

What is this game turning into? Where have these rugby union mauls come from? How do we have tackles with three defenders tackling the ball carrier and three more players from the attacking side joining in to form a maul? This happened repeatedly. FFS ref, call “held” and stop them moving off the mark. Seriously, what code are we watching?

'I don’t know what planet they’re on': Three bins, three tries as Manly win Battle of Brookvale 2.0

I have not bought into the cheerleading for Seibold being an improvement on Hasler. Seibold has inherited a competitive roster and time will tell if he is a really a head coach or better placed as an assistant coach. I am watching in hope for another season of champagne attacking footy from Manly.

Manly's matador defence puts them on edge as Seibold tells Turbo to get back up to speed for Storm showdown

Ive been thinking on this topic as more articles appear. Who of us knows what internal discussions have been held with Griffin? There is no orderly process to test the market and secure the best available coaching team for long term success that will not hit the media in the final year of the current coach contract, nor that will have zero impact on the current season. StG have to have an answer before the next recruitment period and now the inevitable task is how to go about minimising impact on the current season.
I see criticiSm about the process and timing as ill informed media beat up. It’s the classic talkback radio shock-jock model in the mainstream NRL media: they don’t know or care what is really happening, their job is to speculate wildly in order to fabricate controversy about which they can get all hot and bothered and fill their show or column with easy to write opinion and further speculation. It’s not real, it’ is opinion not reporting, it is shameless soap opera and gossip. Shows like NRL 360 are just cheap-to-produce filler – you sit a bunch of self important and opinionated gasbags around a table and let them speculate and argue for an hour. Then their uninformed speculation feeds clickbait headlines for fluff piece articles on their employers online media sites… then they move on to a new “issue” when it suits them. The gossip/opinion media preference is to start death riding coaches prior to the beginning of each season, string this out to fill column after lazy column with criticism and speculation until someone is sacked. An orderly process that is conducted behind closed doors without leaks is the very last thing these media goons want, they don’t even get to claim “credit” for another “scalp”. The StG process looks like the most orderly process they could come up with to secure the best available coaching team for the future, timed to avoid uncertainty for the next recruitment window. I assume internal discussions were held with Griffin. He was already awarded a contract extension to demonstrate his worth and the current process appears to provide a framework for him to continue to the end of the current season. If we accept that there is NO perfect process… I ask what process would satisfy the critics who are proclaiming the current process is “disrespectful” and flawed?

Griffin is not an animal, he is a human being and Dragons should start treating their coach like one

You have to think StG had their reasons, maybe they wanted to resign Hunt first, maybe they wanted to know for certain that Hook isn’t the right man for the job, or maybe they just kicked the can down the road until they worked out their best process for securing the best available option.
