Pilferer, good question. Do Allende and Bundee Aki kick?

Is this the All Blacks squad that will bring home the Rugby World Cup?

KiwiHaydn team has a great dynamic, especially when the young guns start the game and the experienced players come off the bench. This allows for cool heads during crucial moments in tight matches.
While David Havili is a versatile player, competent in multiple areas, he lacks mastery in any specific aspect. On the other hand, Thomas Umaga-Jensen showcased his skills against the Chiefs on Friday, despite being closely marked. He consistently gained yards, distributed the ball effectively, and displayed excellent rugby intelligence. Umaga-Jensen’s ability to draw in defenders and his decision-making would likely create more problems for opposing defenses compared to Havili. Standing out in a defeated team is more impressive than being part of a well-oiled machine.
Moreover, considering Mounga/DMac as the playmakers, having a larger and physical presence outside them is crucial. It is worth noting that Havili was moved to the midfield because he lacked the necessary speed to play as a fullback.

Additionally, Levi Aumua stands out as another potential weapon.

Japanese clubs probably wouldn’t be interested in Rugby League players, as they don’t bring years of experience with them, when they buy a Super rugby player they are also buying years of rugby knowledge which can be passed onto local players. Craig Wing was an exemption, as he counted as being Asian, each team is allowed an Asian player, often Korean, who does not count as a foreigner.
France, recruits players in their teens, mostly from the Pacific, so by the time they are in their 20s they can speak French and qualify for France.
I don’t know the exact figures but NRL players seem to be paid as much as rugby players around the World. The NRL shouldn’t be worried.
When the term “home grown talent” is used do Kiwis count as “home grown” ?

Exactly Ken, there is a huge potential for spin-offs.

Luck is a factor in winning World Cups. It is not impossible for a team to win the cup because the opposition is reduced to 14 or 13 players. Players can be injured 2 minutes into a game then the replacement player is injured and suddenly you have no specialist no. 10.

Hansen casts doubt on candidates and questions timing of appointment, but says All Blacks can still win RWC

Todd maybe you should call Foster to discuss your shared angst.

2019 Waverley College went to the Sanix World Rugby Youth Invitational Tournament, Miles was probably spotted there. He was 2m and 16.
His decision to return to OZ is interesting, as the French have invested a lot of time and money, they may think twice before singing 16-year-olds.

Christy nice article.
McKenzie is a mystery. So far this season has looked like a million bucks, he is actually very good at tactical kicking, then bang mistakes start reappearing. Can you afford this at test level?
Stevenson, we can forgive a few mistakes, because he is so involved in play, also he has the ability to set up players outside him which most wingers lack, but best of all he possesses rugby intelligence a.k.a. James Lowe.

Peter, great article. Sella was all class, he held the French backline together, and he brought toughness to a sometimes otherwise flaky backline. I wonder how many games France won when Sella was injured, not many I’d imagine. Definitely one of the greats, maybe the best-ever French back.

Yes Peter, but the NH teams will only really have OZ, Arg and All Blacks to fill their coffers in Autumn, and I’d imagine OZ and ABs would like to play SA every Autumn. Basically, 6 v 4 will become 7 v 3. Additionally, the ABs may play Japan every Autumn.
SA joining the 6 Nations throws everything out of balance.
A stronger Fiji and Japan could put things back in balance.
Also, does SA have to leave the RC to join the 6 Nations?

Perthstayer, I wonder if anyone has ever polled the NH fans and asked them if they want SA to join the 6 Nations?

Yes, Peter. The problem is that all the best-case scenarios i.e. nations comps are not in the best interest of the NH teams.
If SA joins the 6 Nations, this will mean the NH teams don’t get to play the Boks in Autumn, a potential loss of earnings. Also, I can’t see Italy being booted out, with their U20s starting to look strong. The rise of Italy could also assist in the possible inclusion of the likes of Spain down the track.
If everything is about money, surely SA is a bit of a dodgy bet. Additionally, has SA ever joined a comp and been happy?

True Jacko, he has the talent, but as Geoff said he just needs a bit of fine-tuning.
He also has the advantage that he is a natural centre.

Very true Geoff, Nankivell could become a great player.

The Wrap: Who are the players to watch out for across every Super Rugby franchise?

Geoff, Nankivell will make a break, do something special, but then he will do something silly. Interesting if Munster can iron out these deficiencies, because the Irish sides are not keen on mistakes.

If an AB signs a one/two-year contract in Japan, doesn’t this give them time to freshen up and get over injuries, free up money for other players and expand the player pool?
The real issue would be if 18 -19-year-old prospects were going overseas, then you have a major issue, ironically, ABs taking short-term contracts overseas does assist in keeping the younger players in NZ.

Intotouch, good points. The speed of their ball at the breakdown is the key to their attack. Ireland do seem to be eliminating mistakes, very few passes go to ground or are behind the man. They are very well-coached/coachable.

Ulrich.
“France have had the wood over them until this year.” Maybe France expected to win.
France is meant to be the best team in the world and their giant forward pack is meant to monster the Irish pack. Ireland thrashed them.
Ireland usually wins these big games by narrow margins.
