10 points each on those comments . . . hard to see anyone as damaging for Semi in Parra at this stage of the season.

Nine talking points from NRL Round 5

Anzac day will be brutal for Saints after travelling to NZ. The game for them will depend on how they get thru the 80 after the Warriors (win loose or draw) as it is a very short turn around.

Nine talking points from NRL Round 5

I can honestly say apart from the where the Storm sit the field is not what i thought it would be Saints included.
In seeing the Raiders / Panthers struggling i think the Panthers will turn the corner…. not sure for the Raiders.

As usual the injury fronts are taking their toll so on that note if the Titans right the ship they should finish the second half of the season strongly.

Nine talking points from NRL Round 10

Deserved win to the Storm, they have the best finishers in the comp. True there were some terrible calls in the first half but good teams get back in the fight and Saints didn’t do that. They got torched for speed.

I thought we looked a bit battered and bruised from last Tuesday.
The break will do us well and Mann will have some more time to gel with M’crone.
Look forward to the Sharkies …..

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Melbourne Storm: NRL live scores, blog

No true fan ever “divorces” their club – whats worse is reading fan pages where guys / girls say that they switched allegiance, like >? really… thats like swapping out on your favorite whiskey – you always come back to it…..

Why I would never divorce my football team

After the Bennett era it was 2015. Saints fans had to wait 4 years (2015) but it was an exciting start – I think that we have more depth and consistency now more than any of that period.

The biggest concern in the “depth” is loosing one of the halves. . .

Eleven talking points from NRL Round 7

I think Mary is quietly confident that the longer the playing group sticks together the better they become.
There were a few moments in the last 20 where Saints dropped their guard and it could have been different for the Warriors.

Nene is pretty solid in attack but he’ had some bad defensive reads. I hope that this doesn’t continue.

Saints fans – Keep Believing….

Statistics show how far St George Illawarra Dragons attack has come

In terms of a SOO hooker Robbie was known for his consistency and defense. Its easy to forget what he used to do when we see as his current form which is definitely down.
The two (2) things that dont work for Souths in terms of the 9 is the timing on the interchange and then the fact that both of them are on together in the 2nd half squabbling for the ball.

I would swap the scenario;
Let Cook start and be the dominate 9 until if and when he fatigues.
Put Robbie on the bench as a utility and only bring him on if needed.

If Cook passes his test then he should have his hat in the ring for SOO – No’9

Nine talking points from NRL Round 4

Not sure that the spine is too much at fault and seems to be settling in.
Its more a mind set on how to approach the game (no mistakes!). . . we need a few wins on the trot and i think we can fire.

Eight talking points from NRL Round 2

Just not enough ink in the computer to write it all down, but you cant hope to get close to winning if you keep dropping the ball.
2nd issue is the edge defense – Nene McDonald needs to learn to stay on mark and not come in … He let in 3 trys al be it one was spectacular.

The one thing is that was promising was the effort when St’s had the ball… Its not all hopeless (yet).

Eight talking points from NRL Round 2

I hate golden point because Saints are crap at it. . .
At least play golden try as the first outcome or if you want to shoot for a field goal let the game roll on for 10 mins (5 each way) for the out come.

Six talking points from NRL Round 1

Three ex Saints / Illarwarra players as coaches – must be an oman, a bad oman that is…

All the coaches mentioned in the article + JT are under the pump to get teams to perform. Whilst i see a legacy or an inherited roster to a degree none of them except Brownie have an excuse. I dont see where Madge is that vulnerable though.

Saints frustrate me the most and not just because i am a supporter – i look at the player retention and think “muppets”.
They don’t seem to be able to negotiate with any common sense on key positions. Loosing Merrin / Morris / Beale / Pryor was just fatal and even the the saints player retention manager Peter Mullholland left them dry..

As for coaching, you pay for what you get – if you look at top tier coaches that have structure in the coaching team they are generally successful. Saints “jobs” for the boys” approach is likened to a family employing the eldest son to run the cash register of the family business.

First to go Mary by round nine if he doesn’t pull 5 wins . . .Ivan Cleary to get the phone call.

NRL 2017: The year of increased sackings

Groundhog day is listening to Mary on the post match Charity shield game 2017′ and re-playing Price 3 years earlier…
If i hear that game being called a trial one more time i’ll simply ignore it and treat it the same way (a trial)

There something called culture in a footy club – Saints have it in a sense of history and pride but not in terms of leadership and smarts for the modern era. So many times i see Mary in the game box venting frustration that none of the players see – take a leaf from Sticky on occasion and show some passion, take a leaf from Harry Bath for that matter – get to the sidelines.

Widdop is not a captain, guys like Frizz who lead by example are first choice captains. . .

Mary needs to go back and build on what he can do – defense.
2015 showed this as at one stage we lead the comp with best record of defense.

As for attack – we have nothing and will continue until we pay $$ for an attacking coach or until we let the likes of some handy juniors (Field & Dufty) off the chain.
These guys are like mongrel dogs that havn’t been fed properly for 2 years. . . waiting patiently.

Only with imagination can the Dragons fly

I dont think they will Sack Mary but he will probably get shifted back to the cutters . . . I cant see how he is motivated when comments like “its a trial match” or “an opportunity for some of the guys . . . ” Sounds like a regurgitation of the Steve Price days, god help us.

We are in a world of hurt just in the defensive reads alone. they were woeful.
