fair point
However what was SA’s win / loss ratio from professionalism to before Rassie took over and they went to being selected from anywhere.
A lot lower than 65%. So 65% IS a better record for SA during professionalism.
Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table
the point is brumbies are close to insolvency probably because they have not been successful for 20 years

how do you know?
Your proposition only has merit if you could show that if a domestic based player was chosen for the test that the wallabies would have won where they lost before.
You have zero evidence that a domestic player would have been better.
Also I would not include any tests from last year with ej’s assistants and his coaching so poor.

you ignore the o/s selections from cheika’s years

so 20 years since brumbies have been successful, a winner

you have not included all the games , players selected from when chieka got the giteau rule in.
You don’t have koroibete, giteau, ,mitchell, aac
So if you have only got the window of dr and ej then dr had 38% success rate and ej’s far less.
So not many domestic players would have a good record in that period either.

I would love for aust to ‘only’ have a win record of 65%.
Wallabies win record
McQueen 79%
A Jones 70%
are the ONLY ones better than 65%

the point of not having restrictions is ALL o/s players who may be better can be slected into a squad and then winnowed out if they are not actually better. You can compare them head to head.
With the way it is now if you selecting the ones you hope are the best and no chance of knowing if they really are.

if the best players are in australia then scrapping the giteau law wouldn’t change anything would it? in fact it would reduce the number going o/s since there is more chance they could selected for tests and thus lower their value for a club.

young players contracted o/s would get a lot more games and development than domestically.
You could argue aust should only contract 26+ years old for decent money and let the young players be paid and developed far better than in australia.
The maximum number of games young players get is 16 games a year and most don’t get close to that, better they develop o/s.

brumbies have not been successful though, when was the last time they won super rugby ( with nz in it?)
2003 wasn’t it?

soccer swamps rugby for 92% of the population, that 8% being 5million whites not so.

where is the proof of that JD Kiwi?
Has it been Sio giving up scrum penalties? More than what Slipper constantly gives?

I disagree, most backs from o/s have played a lot better than domestic players.
Perhaps the forwards is down to poor assistant forward coaches in the wallabies, the domestic forwards have not been that good either, especially at the breakdown.

maybe ej’s very poor assistant coaches was a major reason o/s players didn’t perform last year. Not many domestic players performed well either mind you, so why pick on o/s based players.

no, only if they are in a current contract, out of contract no transfer fee applies
Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table
you choose in a squad all the o/s players who may be better and in the camps whittle them down if domestic players end up being better

surely last year under ej’s is the anomaly, look at the poor assistant coaches he had.
Scrap the Giteau Law: Rugby Australia should look to Rassie's 'Boks RWC recipe if it wants to re-join the big boys' table
this could be related to poor forwards coaching in the wallabies though
Also more o/s players than not have been successful, played well for the wallabies.

agree once european players ‘choose’ to skip tests other than rwc then club reigns supreme.
I would see the 6 nations being an exception.
But the inbound and outbound tours between sh/nh nations I see it happening.

kerevi, qc, koroibete, giteau, AAC, Mitchell all added more when selected from o/s.

he is there
and skelton was as well in half the matches (he was used poorly).

Harry first of all I agree with your premise (and have for a while) that the best players must be selected regardless of where they are.
Not because of australian rugby being similar to SA which they are not. Rugby is the most popular sport for the white people whose population is roughly the same as NZ’s. The culture of rugby is far more deeply imbedded for them. Additionally rugby’s popularity has grown with the rest of the population.
Basically RA is broke.
It is far better for RA for o/s clubs to pick up the tab for the most expensive players.
So let them all go who can get a lot more money. There is a limit to how many players can be signed in europe or japan anyway.
RA could even reduce how much it is paying in salaries domestically then.
Play tests against 2nd tier nations outside the test windows , pick the best for tests inside the test window.
Don’t care how that affects super rugby since that is now a losing proposition, with interest and broadcast revenues declining year after year. Unless they actually add japan / usa to super rugby and/or sanzsaa to radically increase the broadcast revenue then no reason to worry about the domestic payments.

when he was picked from australia the wallabies were stronger overall, cheika had a much better record than dr or ej’s since then.
You keep excluding the tests under cheika , what were the o/s players records under cheika?
