Many thought essendon would be 1 and 6 . The pundits keep tipping against them . I always thought they would be top 8 material with a young squad and some experience coming in . To think they are still without two of their best defenders in ridley and the promising Reid (being forced to go to cox and laverde down back with Martin kicking out of the goal square . This will all change when Reid and Ridley come back ) . Perkins (who was missed yesterday ) and settlefield to come back back in the middle with shiels pushing for a return. Guelfi will add grunt so vfl players like hind and Menzies can be emergencies again . The bombers have a lot of room for improvement with so many players out and their kicking let them down after quarter time they should have iced the match but against the flag holders it was a great contest and many detractors are eating their words after predicting they would be 1 and 6 .
Footy Fix: The best Anzac Day classic since the first one confirms the Pies are back... and the Bombers are for real
Donny sounds like your just trolling as usual ..I see you’ve nothing salient to add or facts as usual
Footy Fix: How the Bombers brained the Bulldogs - and Bevo - with their most brutal nine minutes in a decade
All day Rose I’ll leave the finer analysis on a may side to your good self although I notice that won’t fit to astrology per se it’s just part of the revolution of the sun according to human calendar not the stars which rowdy has the expertise on. it’s kind of fun to have star sign sides seeing the whole thing is a fun mock up. one thing I thought was would McDermott or Jason even make Aussies top ten bowlers of all time assuming the first five or so pick themselves : McGrath lillee warne davidson then Cummins and thomo probably in there before a few spinners and all rounders . The first xv of all time is always a fun one to dwell on that gets contentious at times .

interesting rowdy tennis is my best sport , although I’m no handyman but my other gemini friends are . I do like a car and bike race in person

Rowdy the gemini side is sounding better already. waugh and smith potent at best. Wasim akram , rabada , jayawaradene slot in quite nicely too. Dennis compton was a decent pom too and george headly one of the early west indies who didn’t have much support as he was older by time ww2 ended and WI cricket got ramped up.

Smash and grab stuff is no test of long terms stamina skill and tactics. Hrd to get excited about it but its ok for instant gratification and thats the juice of social networks and youth consumption especially in digital world now and short attention spans and ADD mindsets rising

rowdy I’ve been on bombers pages briefly before. Arsenal 49ers essendon australian test cricket are my 4 sporting loves

Whats the best gemini team Rowdy haha. The delay in test cricket for australia is like watching paint dry. .Straight in to the cauldron against india late november . 7 months to go

Some good points maxy but see my post below

A couple of things have disturbed the defensive plan :
1) Ridley and Reid trained pre season and were pretty much integral to the defence so laverde coming back in with cox and others rotated down back disrupted the bombers severely even pushing martin back deeper at times who is more effective off half back and going forward.
2) They’ve only truely faltered away from home . Swans won’t be easy to beat many times at SCG this year and they couldn’t take a trick in first two quarters against port with some bad luck for me on bounce and umpiring . They seemed to implode a bit towards end of second as you point out but away to port isn’t easy either.
3) they have a few second stringers and rookies in there due to injury i.e. menzies who was terrible, davey rookie and to an extent la verde has struggled down back due to lack of height and wasn’t always a defender . No doubt reid ridley guelfi will definitely make essendon a lot stronger. Ridley is one of the great interceptors off half back in the afl but the quad injury is a concern since late in season last year. Not to mention two metre peter will give them more strength up front on return.
4) Bombers have been underrated so far. Two bad quarters away to port for sure but generally theyve been hard at the contest and hard to beat outside of that. They gave port a huge work out first quarter and sydney a work out for most of that much. They have beaten the teams below them but struggled in two of their hardest fixtures away.
5) fixture list ahead gets easier they were predicted by many to be 1 and 4 by now. Its not the case . If the key defensive players come back second half of year and a few others bombers finish top 8 for me and will get past the elimination round I think especially if they play in melbourne

Doc contain your anger. Rocci isn’t in the 23. Bottom line he’s 3rd or 4th string spinner. Don’t join the delusional ranks of Donny. 99 percent on here know how the 23 works and why rocci isn’t in it. Bury the WA waca wacky blinkers on this one . Case concluded here.

Geez you waste some words Doc . You’ve just confirmed my point you can’t compare the two players on international form. Hence Rocchio can’t be selected in front of Lyon or Murphy according to the majority of observers. Your comment just backs up mine whilst trying to wordsmith it clearly shows the state of mind you and the WA biased bubbled boys have on here. Once again thanks for supporting the case that he is not in the 23 for contracts let alone selection mix . Perhaps he can be a squad member for Sri Lanka tour but nearly everyone on here would agree that he’s not ready to get one of 23 contracts let alone be selected for internationals yet. DTM and game changer have set out sound reasons above for Roccio not being included in the 23 as well which you should re read and accept . Here is hoping rocky can have another good shield season and press to be 3rd or 4th string on the sri lanka tour and later in next tours to India and England in a few years time . Otherwise he should continue to hone his skills for key foreign tours and to have a go when Lyon hangs up his boots

I wouldn’t rule out bancroft , renswhaw or whiteman being selected as openers or first drop in the next 12 to 36 months . Test cricket schedules are slow now and those three are the form horses at the top and could suit different tours and conditions. I am just pretty sure Khawaja and Smith will go of they own accord within 21 months and maybe sooner for khawaja if he doesn’t increase his average from this summer past . I suppose the selectors one direction may be to elevate labsuschgne if he does find consistent form and increase his average this summer. They then could look for a first drop or middle order bat but there could be changes for the sri lanka tour if head and labs don’t get their averages over 30 for the summer series as averages in 20s can not continue

Rocchio simply can not replace lyon or murphy yet on international form

The doors not shut at all Tuf. Guys are playing to 36 to 38 now at test level. Khawaja will go end of this summer if not end of next summer against england. I think Smith will retire after home ashes as won’t want to tour and may have a family by then who knows. That will leave two opening slots and or a an opener and first drop to fill. Head and Labs have been averaging in 20s since last summer which isn’t good enough. So theres plenty of opps. The india series will no doubt show us all who is playing well as its a reboot in 8 months really but home soil , after the poor batting last summer there are no excuses.

Incorrect I wanted green back in . Don’t think you’ve seen all my posts just the ones calling out Don because he is continually wrong. Laughable saying cummins should be dropped he’s delusional

Ace think your reading to much in to this one. only 23 places. Bartlett did well internationally this summer . Who else would you take out and for whom? Doesn’t preclude call ups . Davis I like but can’t give him a top 23 contract yet

Bartlett in as well. I told you he’s deserves to be next up for Australia due to his great efforts during the summer `. A great addition to the squad from the east coast

Boland more likely to play in front of Rocchi in the next year. Lyon can’t be usurped until he chooses to go despite his poor average at a few select grounds. Murphy did well in India. This 23 is for all formats I believe. Rochi can go for a stint in english county without interference by not being on this list and develop his skills away from WA

Hes not top 23 accrross all formats . He can go play a county run without interference that way . He wouldn’t figure in the other formats yet at top level. Calm the WA farm

Good comment game change gives guys ike Rocchi a chance to play country or further develop his skills for the red ball format

Not guesswork Don, think they are best 23 across the codes. Wrong again I think on this one Don
