Some pretty good points in this Fruit.

Don’t get the South Africa and West Indies supposed allegiance to India quip; it suggests “in isolation” when anyone with half a brain realises the BCCI wields the power.

I remember a Graeme Smith-led Proteas coming to NZ only to face the greenest pitches in living memory; debacle ensued. We were famous for it. Just ask Pakistan or India who faced regular seamers’ paradises.

The reality is I don’t think pitches are as manufactured nowadays, despite being particular to their region. Even here in NZ, we eventually realised it was worse for OUR game in the long run.

As a fan, I don’t particularly care. Both teams have to play on it and this is the very definition of the word: Test. However, changing a scheduled block should require the sign-off of both teams, especially if it’s at the pointy end of a tournament.

As a sporting columnist… (of some note according to you – sorry, couldn’t resist)…what are your thoughts on the toss? This seams to be a bigger issue in determining outcome or advantage, than the storm-in-a-teacup pitch in the Semi against us (where we were plainly not good enough.)

Cooked wicket paranoia has gone too far - why should World Cup hosts lose a key privilege?

Head’s not the only unlucky one here.

I agree.

They were in the wrong areas from the get-go… again. Thought Henry was the pick of the quicks before his tournament was curtailed.

Of course, you also have to acknowledge the way Rohit started, and then Master Kohli and Sreyas. They applied pressure and the Black Caps failed to respond.

NZC is about to enter a re-building phase in any case; they need to get on with it. Guys like Ashok, Foxcroft, Sears, to name a few need to be involved.

As Sarge said, there is no shame in losing to one of the great Indian Teams at home. Would have been nice to fight a bit harder tho. I have been a Shami fan for years and am often confused when he is left out. Great shift from him…

That’s the ultimate truth here Wal.

The only ones who can, and/or perhaps should, ask questions have asked them; it will change nothing.

The engraver’s finished.

The All Blacks’ discipline, and failure to close out the moments they created, is what cost them; well that and a never-say-die, physical Bokke.

What’s worse, is that this has provided a platform for some to vent their splenes with their brave bile…

Wow Just.

Expect better from you mate.

That said, I concur with a lot of what you say. The All Blacks lost primarily because of those moments.

However, that does not negate the reality of what a lot of fans are complaining about. TMO consistency and application, Eben…etc.

The Boks were enormous and their names are on the trophy… end of.

That our game could be a better spectacle with the man-in-the-middle, whomever that might be, having control of the game? That things like 20min reds, a more consistent and robust disciplinary process, and a less convoluted and interpretation-biased Law Book will improve outcomes for everyone? These things are worthy of discussion…by adults hopefully…

Shore boys… coincidence…

Coincidentally, his school had nothing to do with his appointment…

Despite his school, Waugh appears to be a breath of fresh air in a stale reeking barn where the piggies feast at the trough at the expense of the game’s infrastructure and its diminishing fans…

Rugby in Australia is in a parlous state is broken right now and the excuses lies need to stop.

'Always knew it would get really ugly': RA chief's strange admission as World Cup budget blow out revealed

ANYONE, who makes ANY threat along those lines, should be subject to scrutiny and punishment.

Barnes may have made the odd mistake but so do all referees and he is actually a good one, if a little too technical for my tastes.

We tend to forget the job these guys do and the path they follow to get to the top of the heap in a largely thankless task.

Like the players, it behoves us fans to get a grip, and respect these men who are such a vital cog in our game. I should know as my wife boss tells me I need to calm down.

World Rugby needs to own some of this as well. Giving the game back to the man in the middle and reducing the intervention of over-zealous TMO’s.

Tackle height, card sanctions, review and punishment are all areas of concern that, if properly administered, will improve the game as a spectacle and reduce the attacks on officials too.

Foster, Owens, Pinchot, Hansen, the Professor… they can’t all be wrong…

'We know where you live' - World Cup referee Wayne Barnes wants punishment for online trolls after 'vile' post-match abuse

Reckon he could be right; the players are there but the system is broken.

Hone and develop the right players, add some depth and structure, and the Wallabies are capable.

Easier said that done and support needs to be in place at the top of RA too.

The All Blacks are going to be vulnerable in their 1st year, as they rebuild, mirroring their neighbours in that regard. I’m excited to see what selections and style Razor adds to a lengthy tradition.

By the time Bill rolls around in Australia I expect the All Blacks will be formidable. It would be cool if the Wallabies were hitting their straps at the pointy end of the rankings too…

Sam Cane cops ban for World Cup final red card

Thought the Frizzell card was a joke, especially when it was adjudicated there was no foul play, nor intent, in the review for red. Yet there are many on these boards claiming it was intentional, an All Black plan, along with others telling us about deliberate targeting of the neck.

The head-contact thing is a direct reaction to public outcry, the relating of diseases like dementia and spinal issues and is therefore understandable. The confusion emanates from the systems that govern interpretation and adjudication which differ substantially, even within the confines of one game.

The outcome for Sam is a tough one, certainly arguable, but not unexpected and probably not unfair. Kolisi’s certainly had mitigation and lacked intent too. Given the over-zealous TMO’s consistency the fact Eben got way with his, is at the very least, questionable.

Wayne Smith has called for a navel limit (which would provide off-load and speed advantages). Hansen has called for the removal of TMO’s completely, as has Owens. Foster has suggested 20minute red cards. These things would benefit the game which is at a cross-roads; what World Rugby does next is important because the game suffers as a spectacle and might lose more ground to it’s competing codes.

Shakib’s right… but… he’s also a tool.

Matthews is wrong… and he knows it. He should have been aware of the law, faced a ball and then changed any defective equipment. He could have then given the tool a digit.

ICC and BCCI are even more wrong; not having addressed this and allowing for the possibility of it playing out ins a show-piece tournament is just myopically senseless. Especially after the Bairstow shenanigan.

Reckon the next encounter between these teams may be worth viewing with a cup of tea…
