Great points – my initial article title had said what the AFL could look like in 2020 – so no hand in that unfortunately.
One of the interesting thing is that Giants and Swans only have 6 and 5 Vic clubs at home this year – so part of my rationale is that it happens anyway, why not make the draw a bit more transparent for fans?
Cheers for your thoughts.
The AFL needs a national revamp: Here's how
If you look at the Western Bulldogs draw – they only have 6 games out of Victoria this year – so it is not far from the truth. An interstate team by its very nature travels every second week.
The AFL needs a national revamp: Here's how
Jeff almost double the size of Launceston where they play games quite happily – considering I raised it as a point anything else to add of value?
The AFL needs a national revamp: Here's how
Ellen – you make some great points – I think the umpires had a big say on Friday night’s game. Re the Grand Final, the Doggies thoroughly deserved the victory – 22 man football versus Josh Kennedy and Reg Grundy at times. Swannies had too many passengers.
Is it really 25 playing 22?
The selection of Mitch Marsh in particular was appalling – even more galling when they knew he was carrying an injury
The number 6 slot is there for the taking as a batsman. I am still yet to be convinced that Wade is the keeper – but promising foundations elsewhere.
Test 1 should look like
Warner
Renshaw
Khawaja
Smith
Handscombe
Wade
Starc
Cummins
Lyon
Hazelwood
With Pattinson back as well, and O’Keefe – some very solid bowling depth.
I have left 6 blank – but it is not the all-rounder question – it is who is the number 6 batsmen
Australia came close but missed the Marsh in India
You’ve mentioned all rounder. It’s number 6 batsmen – our four bowlers proved we were good enough in India.
What does Australia's India tour result mean for the Ashes?
Love it – more than two things 🙂 Agree Parker and Hannebury were no-shows in the clinch and I do like your commentary re the Swans having to adjust their stoppage game. Rest assured I’m now over it (at least until the next time my team is robbed !!!).
Is it really 25 playing 22?
Also in the case of both GFs in 2014 and 2016, some no-shows – Tippett, Rohan etc.
Is it really 25 playing 22?
PD – my rant aside – part of my frustration is with the Mills free was I cannot possibly see it being paid in time on last quarter of a GF. I do agree Parker has read a bit too much of his own press in the off season judging on his first two matches.
Is it really 25 playing 22?
Nah mate not the Cloke one – the Boyd one in the last term. There are so many easy to lose track 😉
Is it really 25 playing 22?
Longmire needs to raise it – people will say it is an excuse but the sheer weight of free kicks cannot be ignored. All umps make mistakes, and it is a difficult game to umpire – but that was one-way traffic last night. The Aliir Aliir hold was also another howler.
Is it really 25 playing 22?
Fair few Jeff – care to elaborate?
The Brumbies aren't the problem - rugby already has one foot in the grave
Ryan – a lot of this looks good ‘on paper’ as you point out. As a Swans fan, if Jessie White is part of the answer, I don’t know what the question was!
Collingwood’s finely-balanced case for finals football
AGO – while I sympathise with the winter sentiments, what about a Saturday afternoon or Sunday afternoon match? You have a smaller drawing crowd like N Qld and you could get a great atmosphere on a Super Saturday match.
There is a pulse! Time to return league to its heartland
Kevin the article is nothing about building a new stadium – the ground is almost there to host a game or two for premiership points. The local teams use it as a home base so the upgrades were needed.
There is a pulse! Time to return league to its heartland
Ryan – agree both players on an individual basis are amazing. I have one question (and sorry for being lazy) – who has better efficiency in general play and kicking for goal? I saw a bit of Geelong last year with Dangerfield racking up lots of hard-earned disposals but seemingly butchering the ball going forward (poor bloke had to do everything). Both have a history of poor conversion too in front of the sticks.
Patrick Dangerfield vs Nat Fyfe: The best sub-plot of the AFL season
Cricket is alive and well there – the WICB is broke and battered, and the players are following the T20 gravy train.
No one cares about West Indies cricket anymore
Like the concept and general direction of the team – only thing for me is you have too many bowling all-rounders and no spinner – Damian Wright could have been a very handy number 8 lower order batsman / third seamer without the need for Christian.
Then the issue becomes who is the spinner? Unfortunately almost everyone who could tweak a ball has had a test or two to their name it seems – but following the rules Christian would come out and I would hand a cap to William Somerville from NSW (looks like I’m breaking a rule there!).
The other quick I would consider is Michael Hogan – very strong record over a long time (before he changed allegiances at least :0) .
The best that could only dream: An XI of players who never wore the baggy green
Dav – yes agree the support is there – I just think in Marsh’s case he needs to put his talent into everyday performance. Re Warney and Trump – can you imagine Twitter ever being the same again 🙂
Donald Trump and Mitch Marsh: Ten things in common
Fair point – but I just cant see 10 teams in Vic over the long-term. North have the strong engagement with Tassie and I think it would be a good fit to take an established administration into a new frontier.
