@Jupiter – I watch their goal several times last night and even today. Mary was pushed off the ball way too easily, and stopped chasing, [a cardinal sin when defending] Carpenter didn’t want to leave her player so left it late to go and close Ji down, If Mary had kept up the pressure, I believe between to two of them they would of made it more difficult for JI. Plus none of the defensive players in the middle came out to try and put pressure on the offensive side, by playing the offside trap. They were all ball watching.
So the ball couldn’t be laid off, everyone who knows Ji or knows of Ji has seen her capabilities, knew she only has one peg, and as soon as it went onto her right foot she was likely to score.
Annoyed, Angry and Disappointed.

It's time for some scrutiny on the decision-makers in Australian football

Hear Hear and so say all of us.

Pretty sure JT will be given some opportunity but Rudes will expect a lot more from him.

@Tigertown – That is Exactly what I was thinking, when do they play Sydney, better make it a Saturday night FTA show and reschedule it to Parramatta.

Any excuse will do.

It's time for some scrutiny on the decision-makers in Australian football

I can remember a post match interview after Chelsea beat Man United at Old Trafford, it was in the ‘Special One’ first stint. Chelsea won 1 nil but only had something like 37% of the procession, and when asked how he felt about the the lack of procession, he plainly said, “Until they work out another way to find a winner, I will score goals rather than keep the ball.”

In other words, procession means nothing, it is the goals that count.

Matildas collapse at the Asian Cup after Gustavsson's 'Kerr or bust' approach fails dismally

I agree, the cross into the box is just one tactic to be used, try it once or twice, see how it is defended, or in our case, how we deliver it, then try the next piece. Change the play around, change the style of play. If Sammy is having an off day, we all have had them, then change what we are doing. The disappointing thing for me, was everyone could see what was happening out there. But none of the players tried to change it.

Big call on Taylor Ray “Taylor Ray the Makelele of women’s football ” I’m assuming you mean in the ALW.
Whoever is doing the scouting of Australian players needs to be asked to explain his or her evaluation of TR or Maka as I will now call her.

Unfortunately, I think you are right. It is too late, I think we can start preparing ourselves for a dismal performance in our own World Cup.

On another note, Alen Stajic has got his Philippines team into a semi-final, one game away from a truly remarkable achievement for them and Staj.

I don’t agree with your observation of her yesterday. She had a tough day at the office, every footballer has, in fact every person has. Possibly even you.

I suggest you watch her play more often, you might just change your mind.

Matildas collapse at the Asian Cup after Gustavsson's 'Kerr or bust' approach fails dismally

Unfortunately, we have lost the opportunity to succeed at our own World Cup. Based solely on what we have seen both at the Olympics and in this tournament, I can not see how we can be a success next year. We have squandered an opportunity to get an easy group at our own World Cup, so please don’t be surprised if we do not escape from our group.
I had in the past refused to criticise any national team coach, simple because I am not aware of the instructions and tools he has been given to succeed. Gustavsson has in my opinion stuffed up his opportunity to go down in Australian Football Folklore, unlike ‘Aussie Gus’, who will always be revered by us football ‘know it alls’ TG will become known as the guy who could have, should have but didn’t.
The total reliance of a single super star, because that is what Sam Kerr is, has in fact come back to bite us on the backside. Good or even half decent sides know how to stop us. We haven’t learnt how to play without Sam being our main focal point.
While we have some talented youngsters on the fringe, none are in the Kerr class, I doubt we will ever be as lucky to have such talent at our finger tips again.
Do we change the coach 18 months out of the World Cup, I think it is all ready too late.
PS Gus has retired. ????

This quarter-final match will be tougher than the Semi’s, if we make it, as for the Final, it will be a game [assuming the 2 favorites get through to it] to remember.

I’m glad they were angry at conceding a goal, and it was some goal, but poor defending.

Sunday can’t come soon enough.

Kerr scores again to send group-topping Matildas to South Korean clash

The last 3 days of the month is when the transfer deals start to take shape, it will be interesting to watch the last 3 hours and see what actually goes down.

All quiet on the Chelsea front, but I’m pretty sure it is much like the duck on a pond, all serene on the surface but there is frantic action underneath.

Transfer rumours: Significant German moves, Newcastle United remain frustrated and Haaland clarifies his future

Watching it, and absorbing the atmosphere, and seeing how well we played. That was great.

For once we put the goals on the board past a minnow from our region that we all think we should be doing every time we meet them.

As per always, the ball is in our court now, another solid performance against Oman and a win, then it comes down to the last two games for qualification. Tough and tight, just as it should be to get to the World Cup.

The spectacular return of Tom Rogic gives Australia a glimpse of his best

Well said Grem. None of us can really complain about decisions on the park, each club has had their fair share of both shockers and ‘gifts’.
Popa is a master at deflecting what to many of us was just another match incident, next week [or next game, which ever comes first] the exact same situation will occur in reverse and he will say nothing, because it is to his teams advantage. AND really that is all he is worried about, what adversely affects Victory.
As a neutral, [I dislike both of those clubs equally, ok maybe Victory a tad more] it was an exciting, game full of good physical clashes, great noise from both sets of fans, and I think everyone of us would agree, that if all our A League matches were of the same quality, with the same atmosphere, then we wouldn’t be complaining.
OK Nomates would be, because that’s his calling in life, or so it seems.

Is this about the local Association being delisted? What’s the story to it?

The Roar's A-League Men tips and predictions: Match Week 11

Would love to be in on that meeting trying to get a consensus to agree to a format.
I am of two minds, I like the Champions League format, you get to play home and away, against 3 other opponents. As long as they don’t do it on the cheap. As in NSW clubs play NSW clubs etc etc, do an open draw, publicly, then if South Melbourne get drawn up against Sydney Olympic, Marconi, and Adelaide City so be it.
I can just hear all the different arguments already.
There will be those in NSW who will tell everyone that the 4th best team in their league is better than the best team in SA or WA. LOL
The side show that will present will be worth watching all on it’s own.

Transfer rumours: Chelsea start to make moves, Dybala furious at Juventus and who replaces Benitez at Everton?

Some interesting points in the article Nick. Access to the NSD will be a hot debating point. How best to select said teams.

Would the 4th best club in Sydney be a better choice the the third best club in Melbourne? Or what if the top club from Queensland doesn’t come from Brisbane? What if the top club in Adelaide isn’t from either of the Italian or Greek communities?

I can see the chatting on ROAR become quite vocal and hostile at various points.

Transfer rumours: Chelsea start to make moves, Dybala furious at Juventus and who replaces Benitez at Everton?

I would like to add into the discussion the AUFC women’s team.

In seasons gone by, it would be fair to say that the team didn’t figure in anyone’s finals predictions.

But these past two or three years things have changed. We have gone from a development program run by the local Federation to being run by and for the club, bringing them into the fold and making them feel part of a bigger organization. You can call it culture if you wish, I won’t argue the point, but now, they are a joy to watch, with a lot of good, talented players being given a chance to excel.

OK not very many local NTC players getting important minutes, but some are, and they are around an fully professional club and people.

That is the difference for us. Fingers cross they will get their chance to play a final series for the first time this year.

Setting the right culture is the key to success in any sporting environment

Good point, if they find themselves in the same position they are now in, this time next season, then maybe a microscope can be brought into the discussion to see where the problem is.

Setting the right culture is the key to success in any sporting environment

Thanks Mike, an interesting topic.

Firstly I think the whole showing of matches on the new platform has been passable – NOT great by any standards and NOT poor either. Just passable.

The unfortunate situation I find myself in is that we watch a lot of football on Optus. What we see there I think should the be the level we aim for here. I am certain the budgets for both broadcasters are as far apart as the budgets are for the football teams in each of the leagues. So it is completely unfair of me to even try to compare them.

The biggest gripe I have is this. My wife and are absolutely invested in both the ALM and ALW we watch as much as possible on any device that is at hand. Which means we watch on our phones when not home, or on our smart TV in the bedroom when we are. I will go and rewatch AUFC matches, and our Lady Reds as well, but, and here is the kicker, trying to keep up with when they are being played is an absolute nightmare.

If it is hard for us, who are totally committed to the game, how hard is it for someone who isn’t as committed? Point in question, everyone in my family ring us most Thursdays or Fridays to find out where and when AUFC are playing and on what platforms. And they follow the game!

There in lies our fundamental problem, it shouldn’t be that hard for a non-committed person to find out how to watch a match of their choice.

Once we get that issue resolved [Thank you COVID] we can then put extra pressure on 10 and Paramount+ to improve their coverage.

How do you rate the A-Leagues' new broadcaster so far?

ATM Andy, we’d taken him in a heart beat. I thought some of his moves on Saturday were pretty special.

It's time to remind certain fans there's no place in the A-Leagues for homophobia

Death threats???? I hope you reported it. Some people have no sense of humour unfortunately.

This side show will be a comic’s life blood over here for the up coming 12 months. It is a shame the great John Clarke, Brain Dawes and Gina Riley are together to make a show similar to The Games out of it.
