Good article. Agree totally. What I see from the Tahs is a lot of talking it up but when push comes to shove they appear timid. We have some big……no HUGE men. Palu, Timani (both of them), Kepu, Taffy. These guys should be bulldozers in attack and brick walls in defence. Nothing should stop these guys getting over the gain line in attack, and they should be an impenetrable wall in defence.
In defence they should be thinking:
“You want to get past us? Fine, give it your best shot. If you try we will hurt you.”

In attack they should be saying:
“I’m running towards the try line. If you try to stop us we will put you in hospital.”

What I see is a very timid team not sure of who they are or who they want to be.

The Waratahs need rudders: who will step up?

I’d take a 32 year old George Smith over Folau any day.

George Smith to play against the Lions?

Do I dare dream that we will have Pocock, Hooper and Smith in the Wallabies side for the Lions?

George Smith to play against the Lions?

So injuries to the Waratahs before the season start……………normal service is resumed.

Waratahs' Horne out for up to six weeks

Is there a Lions tour? You wouldn’t know it by the absolute lack of marketing by the ARU. The only ad I’ve seen is a 30 sec spot featuring some kid singing and Pocock facing down a Lion.

Note to the marketing department at St Leonards. Open your wallets and spend some money on advertising and marketing.

Lions Tour: make or break for Aussie rugby

Here, here.

We need more Liam Gills and Mike Harris’ and fewer Cooper’s and O’Connor’s. I still haven’t forgiven O’Connor for missing out on the World Cup team photo. Huge disrespect to the team and jersey.

Quade's baaaccckkk!!! And his Wallaby mates aren't happy

True enough comment.

I just wish we had more Eales, or Pococks and fewer Coopers.

Quade's baaaccckkk!!! And his Wallaby mates aren't happy

Reading this makes me sad and wish for a more innocent time when players pulled on a rugby jersey because they wanted to play for club, state or country not because they get a bigger pay-check than the next player.

Cooper is symptomatic of the new generation of rugby stars. Could you ever dream of John Eales (rugby royalty imho), George Gregan, any of the Ella brothers, Larkham, Latham etc behaving in this manner?

The ARU needs to take a much tougher line with people like this. If they don’t have pride in the gold jersey (not yellow Quade), then they should have their contract torn up in-front of them, shown the door and never be allowed to play for the Wallabies. They can ply their trade in club ranks or in league. I’m sure there’s a queue of players with as much or more skill who would kill to pull on a Wallaby jersey.

Sad times indeed.

Quade's baaaccckkk!!! And his Wallaby mates aren't happy

You’re coming from the false assumption that the Wallabies form won’t improve and the Lions players will keep theirs, or that they won’t be hit with injuries as the Wallabies were this year.

The Wallabies players have the first half of the S15 season to get into form. We have more depth thanks to blooding players due to injuries in the Wallaby ranks. We have previously injured players coming back.

I for one am positive about the Lions tour. It won’t be easy but I think we have the fire-power.

It’s time to get behind the Wallabies and stop putting them down.

Why the Lions will smash the Wallabies

I think this is great.

Chuck him in the centres with Tom Carter, fix his body height into the tackle and let him lose.

I for one can’t wait to see him on the pitch next year.

CONFIRMED: Israel Folau to sign one-year deal with NSW Waratahs

Couldn’t agree more Denby.

Cooper made some ill-informed decisions. He showed dis-respect for his team-mates, the jersey, the fans, and what it is to be a Wallaby.

He played his last good game during the Reds S15 win. Since then it has been poor form combined with poor personal decisions.

In my view I happy to see the back of him. Yes he is a talent but it’s too inconsistent. Look at McCaw or Carter. They play at an exceptionally high level almost every game not every 10 games. They also have an squeaky clean public image. i don’t here reports of them involved in petty crime, getting drunk etc.

Happy to see the back of him. Let him go to league or Japan or France and fade into in-significance.

Pretty soon it’ll be Quade who? Didn’t he play rugby for a couple of years?

RATH: What we have here is a failure to communicate

I think you’ll find that most people are cautious as we’ve been burnt before (as you mention on both 7 & 9). So it’s a case of once (or twice in this case) bitten, twice shy.

I for one hope Channel 10 treat rugby fans properly but if they start doing a Channel 9 on us then they’ll hear about it.

Channel Ten to take over Australian rugby coverage

While I’m happy Channel Nine has lost the rights to rugby. I’m a bit worried by these few sentences from an article I read:

While unable to make ironclad guarantees on live broadcasts, Barham said Ten would treat rugby “with the respect it deserves”.

“We haven’t got any specific programming detail yet, except you can say that we will be treating this as a major sport,” he said.

“It will probably be the major sport we have on the network, so that says a fair bit about what we’ll do with it.”

Let’s parse the language used

While unable to make ironclad guarantees on live broadcasts, Barham said Ten would treat rugby “with the respect it deserves”. – this could be translated to “If there isn’t a final of MasterChef or other high rating show we’ll show the game live otherwise, brew some coffee because you’ll be up late”

We haven’t got any specific programming yet – umm ring the ARU and ask for the international schedule for the next 2 seasons.

“It will probably be a major sport” – hmmm not the commitment I was looking for.

I hope Ten shows all games live, but after reading this I’m afraid it will be Channel Nine all over again.

Channel Ten to take over Australian rugby coverage

And can we also have Buddha (Chris Handy) back on the side-line yelling “Go you good thing!”

Wallabies to get a new home on Network Ten

Can we have Gordon Bray back as lead commentator as well please?

Wallabies to get a new home on Network Ten

Agree with most of those but I think you have 6 & 8 the wrong way around.

Who should return to the Wallabies fold?

I wasn’t bringing it up as an excuse (I even said that in my post) just as a factor to be considered when looking at the raw win/loss numbers. You can’t just look at the raw figures and lament how bad the team is. There has to be some analysis of what other factors could have contributed to that result.

Five years of Wallabies going nowhere

While I agree that our record isn’t good enough (I mean who doesn’t like beating the All Blacks), I have to ask one thing.

What was the make-up of the team in-terms of injuries under the other coaches. I’m not putting injuries forward as an excuse but it would be a good counterpoint to the raw win-loss figures. For example when MacQueen was coaching (during our golden era) what were the injury stats?

Five years of Wallabies going nowhere

So if I have an opinion about the article or how it is written or dare disagree with what is written I’m a hater? Political correctness gone mad.

FYI the whole article is a criticism of rugby as a spectacle.

Australian sports fans: do you care about your team right now?

Um yes they were. They wanted to win the game which is why they went for the score well after the full-time whistle had blown.

If you’re tired of rugby then stop watching it…….simple. Quite frankly I could watch rugby 12 months of the year.

Wallabies butcher a Test win over the All Blacks

Well I agree with ozusa. Perhaps the reason we don’t get the tone of your article is that it is so badly written and it’s only purpose is to elicit a reaction. Well you got one so well done.

Australian sports fans: do you care about your team right now?

I think this is an article to increase his Roar standing from Rookie to Guru also know as “link-baiting”.

Australian sports fans: do you care about your team right now?

Sounds to me like your a fan-of-convenience. A true fan will watch the game no matter what the team is playing like. You can’t always be on top. You can’t always play champagne rugby. You can’t always have the likes of Eales, Gregan, Larkham and Burke in your team. I actually find it more exciting watching a team, like the Wallabies, who are struggling and play way, way above their potential. Would I like the Wallabies to win more? Sure. Doesn’t mean I don’t watch the game.

And another thing. Let’s remember what happened this weekend. A team of mainly second string players, some of whom were debutants (the Wallabies), kept a team that has won the World Cup, Rugby Championship, has won it’s last 16 games and is arguably the best team in the world, try-less for the first time since 2004 and managed to squeeze out a draw. I thought this was one of the gutsiest performances I’ve seen in a while and all this after most everyone had written them off and predicted a cricket score.

I watch every game and wear my jersey with pride.

Australian sports fans: do you care about your team right now?

I guess the silver lining is that a lot of younger players are getting blooded in the test arena.

Alexander forced out of Wallabies squad

I’m fit and can catch and pass and have a current Wallabies jersey in the wardrobe. Might be a bit old but I’ll give it a go. Who do I contact? 🙂
