Good stuff AFL on recognising what a great player Cox was – he was also great off field – had great running ability, rucking skills and skill with ball in hand but I’ll always remember his pack marking ability – the 05 qualifying final at Subi he took back to back contested marks in dying seconds to hold off the swans – something similar in a game against north in Tassie – did it many more times too – well deserved

Cox and Phillips into AFL Hall of Fame

I’m a west coast fan but surely it’s non-controversial To say Geelong are being hugely contradictory with their Kelly position. After 2015 they picked up Dangerfield (I think 25years old) from Adelaide. Can’t imagine anyone would argue Dangerfield isn’t at least the equal of Kelly and they got him fromAdelaide for pick 9 and 28. Here are Gee not even willing to consider 2 years of first round picks (I know diff is Kelly not a free agent but not really the point) – all clubs lose top players but they also (Gold Coast not so much) get some back at times.

AFL Trade News: Jamie Elliott, Tom Papley, Tim Kelly, Zak Jones and more

I’ve only read a few of comments and agree Langer is way too West Aussie centric – WA did ok in bb (not last year was terrible Ashton turner only good thing) but that isn’t international level – I’m a wa boy myself and I think it’s too much – I remember inthe90’s our WA outcry when Martin and Langer kept getting dropped and then it took too long for Hussey to get selected – it appears as JL has taken those memories to heart and is making ridiculous decisions – Mitch Marsh is not an international batter – people quoting his ave but even that is inflated – he got 181 on an absolute road in Australia – from memory some type of record score for the innings – take that score out and His embarrassing ave is completely laughable – this is just 1 too many selections for the boys – I can’t watch it while he’s playing – the other thing with these favoured selections – whether it be selection when not warranted or sticking with someone who should be dropped is that it deprives some other young or deserving player a chance to establish himself.

Dropping Head for Marsh was a mistake

Couldn’t agree more – I turned the tv on just after we got the9th wicket and proceeded to watch the aussies make mistake after mistake – our reluctance or inability to bowl a Yorker was amazing – as soon as I started watching I thought bowl a yorker and they didn’t. in that entire time Hazlewood attempted one and bowled a full toss that went for 6 and then the ball that was wasted review – that’s 2! most were half short of a length and either dispatched by stokes or played easily by the no.11

The Liebke Ratings: Third Ashes Test

I think Aus selectors have made several incorrect calls recently – agree that Bancroft should be dropped but I fear that Langer is loathed to drop encumbent and won’t change – especially is Smith doesn’t come up. I worry Wade was poor selection – not sure of his temperament for middle order for test level – he gave us a good innings but believe he’s good at 1st class level not test level – at risk of being unpopular – the fast bowlers lack bite – we have both starc and Pattinson on the bench while the poms rip into us – Siddle, hazzlewood shouldn’t be 2/3 of our pace attack. Finally I wished they had of picked Carey for our middle order – he seems to adapt to the stage of a game whell – can score if needed but also protect wicket when we lose momentum. Having said all that we’re still 1-0 up so the selectors must be doing something right

Australia second Ashes Test player ratings: Smith and Cummins the standouts as top order flops

If that was the situation then that makes more sense – not sure why the afl or Richmond wouldn’t clarify the position – created some backlash when prob didn’t need to be – a homophobic slur is different than a generic term at an umpire

Five talking points from AFL Round 11

Agreed – clearly there is a concern for fans to worry about pc madness – an innocuous sledge if there ever was one – the authors comments about abusing a stranger at work completely ignores context… it is an afl umpire’s not a bus driver or a waiter at a restaurant – I’m pretty sure umpires go into the job (actually seek it out with ambition and enthusiasm) knowing they are going to cop criticism from fans – green maggot – would have to be middle of the road – if ur saying fans can’t vent at umpires because it is their work place that is, IMO, the perfect example of pc madness

Five talking points from AFL Round 11

You’re right – it’s only a hoodo at the moment – one more year then it’s a hoodoo…

The Pies are facing a serious runner-up hoodo

Totally agree with Clarke – I’ve read criticism from Katich and Whateley and essentially Katich said the same things as Clarke (they need to find a balance between aggression and playing in the right spirit) Clarke is just saying don’t throw away aggressive cricket – Whateley is the most sanctimonious commentator I’ve ever heard – he decides what is acceptable now and what he believes is acceptable is solely in line with his beliefs – he doesn’t understand that not all aussies want a pc dominated sporting landscape – if they do he is sanctimonious enough to say they are wrong – I think many fans want characters, tryers and people we can get behind – it’s is so hard to get behind teams that just give platitudes.
Whateley blamed Clarke and the aggressive tactics for the loss of popularity of cricket, but could the reason be the opposite – the lower popularity comes in with the pc push for cricket – the tut tutters have been around for a decade (Whateley, craddock etc)
Cricket was popular when aussies could just compete and not be hounded for sledging (ie talking). Now that’s going out and the games being sanitised the fans don’t like it .
I do think that the reality is the pc world will win and in the long term new cricket followers will get behind the new Australia – – it just wont be the same as it was – already the crowds at Australian games aren’t as vocal as they used to be – the new polite supporters are The future – Aussie fans will sit there politely at home games and watch the English, Indians, Sri Lankan fans cheer and support their teams and we’ll passively watch

Clarke: Australia needs to return to aggressive cricket
