I didn’t actually. I said the entire crowd cheered as the All Stars scored. The booing came as Berisha was announced as the goal scorer.

Berisha is one of the best strikers in the competition and has menaced teams at all stages of the A-League. That’s why he was included in the All Stars. But supporting a team of All Stars in exhibition matches is difficult, especially when supposed ‘team mates’ will be and have been the opposition.

I know not everyone ‘hates’ Brisbane Roar. It was hyperbole. But a bit of humility, especially at the death of a game, with a penalty in hand, goes a long way. If, by some fluke, Berisha missed that penalty, the history of the A-League would be different and so would this post.

I’m a new supporter of the A League. Being from Sydney’s west I am a Wanderers fan. *Cue bandwagon insults*.

To be fair, most of my bile in the post is directed at Manchester United. But I guess their fans are used to be hated.

It's Manchester United versus ... everyone

From the depth and length of the ‘boo’ aimed at Berisha, almost everyone in that stadium disliked Brisbane and that dubious penalty.

For me, it’s about the nature of the team’s celebrations. Berisha began cheering as soon as the whistle was blown. ‘That penalty’, however, was years ago.

Brisbane is a dominant force in the A-League and success will always breed enmity.

I think this video is all the evidence you need for my argument about Brisbane and, in particular, Berisha.

True enough the Lions played wide during the match, but when it came to it, they opted to boot points rather than take the risk trying to cross the line.

Their effort against the Brumbies showed that they lack creativity and options when their best are not on the field – a sorry indictment of their ‘depth’. Hopefully we’ll have a Wallabies side that measures up in defence and players that can last a 80 minutes of rugby.

My Waratahs vs Lions experience

A good point on the rush defence of the Brumbies. I don’t like Pat McCabe’s skills when he has the ball in hand, but he is one of the toughest tackling centres in the game. Let’s hope he makes an impact for the Wallabies midfield in both attack and defence.
