strain and atkinson are the two best current australian right backs. strain is playing at a higher level than grant has ever played at – and is doing well there; although his defensive positioning has been a little suspect, he’s been superb going forward for Maccabi Haifa. I agree – that’s definitely true, although the players are improving week to week playing against older players – Nestor and Mohamed in particular at times were able to adapt and even match the physicality of their direct opponents. I just thought D’Arrigo was noticeably below-par for a more senior player playing in the youth team. I thought Alagich stood out more in that game and Yull overall this season has been producing better performances as a 15-16 year old with a handful of AL minutes than D’Arrigo, who is an established AL player, did v Blue Eagles.

D’arrigo was very average in the midweek NPL game. Didn’t look like a 50 game A-League player playing with kids against semipros.

yep, agree with all of that, from what i’ve seen. very talented kid, one of many at adelaide at the moment.
What makes a good football coach?
what are your thoughts on bernardo? seems really talented, very skilful, quick – but in NPL this season from what i’ve seen he seems to go long spells of the game without seeing much of the ball or having an impact, and in possession he often beats 1 or 2 players before taking one touch too many.

How many expansion teams would work in winter A-League?
Pressure release? A pressure release will only come when the those behind the alleged toxic culture are held to account. A meaningless friendly win (only their 2nd win in 13 matches) is not a pressure release given the gravely serious allegations. I struggle to believe if this was a male team with comparable allegations that such a meaningless friendly win would be described as a pressure release.
