Would love to have Shiel at Carlton, but he’s not worth pick 1, he’s finals performance for a million $ player was underwhelming.
Would rather Walsh and for Carlton to offer next year’s 1st rounder.

Depends on how desperate Adelaide are to get Lukosius:
Gold coast get: Adelaides pick 7 and the blues acquired pick 19, Levi casboult and the blues priority pick 11(?)
Blues: McGovern and slide to pick 2 in the draft (Walsh)
Adelaide: pick 1 (Lukosius)
Carlton's rebuild stems on this trade period
That is the fault of the AFLPA. Players who aren’t free agents or restricted free agents shouldn’t get to choose what club they are going to.
If they want to leave the club, the club they are leaving should be able to put the player on the market to get the best deal for the club.

After Scott’s comments on Carlton earlier in the week we’ve contsantly heard about what the great teams like Geelong have done with their list management.
The reality that Geelong were a great team for a period, but have now slipped into mediocrity. Dangerfield aside, replacing club greats with lesser good players. It keeps them in the finals, but have proven not to good enough once there.
List, coach or something else I’m not sure, but since 2011 this supposed great club has won 2 more finals than Carlton. That’s hardly great, maybe Geelongs top up list management hasn’t been as successful as we keep getting told.

Agreed, high draft picks don’t solve gold coast’s problems, they’ve had plenty of them.
Along with Brisbane (and to a lesser extent GWS) gold coasts problem is retaining that talent once it develops to the go home factor.
If players could pick the state they want to move to, but not the club the northern clubs would be in a strengthened position in trades with southern clubs.

The lions did get dudded with that end of first round pick, but that mistake shouldn’t be passed onto the next group requiring assistance.

Bevo’s comments smacked of self interest, but I do agree that other lower on the ladder clubs shouldn’t be penalised by priority picks.
The ideal place for them to not affect lower teams, but still hold substantial value is after non final teams in the first round and before the finals teams first pick

The reason priority picks are issued is not based on the age of lists, nor one seasons ladder position.
It is based on a a clubs performance (or lack of performance) over an extended period of time.
Free agency has shown to increase the time it takes for teams to rebuild and now the AFL is (again) looking to use priority picks to help teams seemingly stuck on the bottom.
I agree with you that another talented 18 year old is not going to change the blues and gold coasts fortune in the short term, pick 11 or 12 though would give both clubs something of worth to trade in established talent though.
Now if only the AFLPA would lessen the power of non free agent players having the final say on which club they will pay for and drop the minimum salary cap level from 95% so that lower clubs have more power to entice uncontacted players.

It was a bit rich for anyone from for the Bulldogs to complain about other clubs being given assistance in the name of equalisation.
But I do agree with him that the priority pick would be best used by clubs to trade for mature age talent.
Two more talented 18 year Olds are great for Carlton and gold coast long term, but it won’t drag them out of the bottom tier next year

Your comparing two teams that have been in grand finals in the last 6 years compared to two teams that have barely taken a breathe from the bottom in that same period. Fremantle should be looking at their list management compared to Hawthorn since 2013, not Carlton.
To be honest I don’t think we should be comparing Carlton’s problems with gold coasts. Carlton has created it’s own problems to find itself where it is, where as despite its own internal problems, gold coast is mostly being hurt by the AFL’s player movement rules turning them into a feeder club.
I think currently, Freo and the Bulldogs are less disadvantaged in the current free agent (and not free agent market) than gold coast, Brisbane and to a lesser extent the blues.

Dissipointed in the last quarter, but there were signs today of how the blues team is taking shape. They maybe years away, but they are putting together some really good pieces to build around that should be at the club for another decade.

Nice of you guys to defend Melbourne, but they tanked. Coach Dean Bailey was told by club administrator (I Think it was Rohan Connolly,) not to win games. The priority was pick 1 and the priority.
It didn’t work out to well for them nor did it Carlton.
Clubs I think have learnt the damage of losing on purpose far out ways the gain of a few draft spot positions

Hall, Miles, McVeigh, Sam Walsh and target a midfielder in that 24 – 27 year old bracket, Gaff would be nice. Job done.
I would also like an upgrade on Lamb on the half forward flank, but keep lamb for depth

I hear plenty of negative comments about the defensive side of his game, but offensively he would immediately make an impact and immediately lift some of the midfield load being carried by Cripps, Murphy, Curnow and Fisher while we wait for the other younger players to develop into more consistent contributors.
For his talent, along with his age and cost as a free agent I’d love to see him at the club next year.

Inconsistent I know, but as Doc Brown will tell you there is more than one possible future outcome.
Carlton regularly play 3 key defenders and I like the idea of Grundy being on infield coach for Weitering and Marchbank, but I don’t really think he is coming.
Like you have said the noise about all these players leaving Sydney is coming from the media not the club

It could be another good haul of young kids coming to the club through the next draft, but it is unlikely that any of them, with the exception possibly of Walsh will be ready to contribute significantly next year or maybe even for a few years.

A talented bunch that I look forward to seeing play for years to come and add SPS into that group, but still very young. Carltons midfield will be better next through their natural development, but still will be a long way from being able to physically compete with most other teams midfields. Need some stronger ready to play player’s around them to not only help the teams chances in 2019, but in the younger players development.
In 2 or 3 years time that group you mentioned along with Cripps should be a good unit, but they are not there yet.
