Scheduling a test on Australia day is inviting a mauling – either way!!!

'Choose a better date': Cummins wants Australia Day moved as CA chief sledged for 'bizarre' trainwreck interview

I’m more of a Rugby and Cricket guy than Football however I played extensively as a junior and I have coached both my kids thru junior ranks – my comments are about the “business of sport”. My perspective is …sport never got to where it is by being a business. Yes we need associations to remain viable to play players, invest in clubs etc. But when sport becomes a business before anything its doomed. Sport is about the participation and fans first. You cannot lose sight of that – keep the players and fans engaged – you’ll always have a business. I get it – its a tough balance but players and fans first – ALWAYS!!!

Townsend and APL at the heart of Australian football's latest self-sabotage

I agree 100% with Mortlocks comments that we cannot win the world cup playing like we are. So inconsistent. To win the world cup we shoudl expect to beat Fiji, Georgie, the other qualifier and hopefully Wales in the pool games. and then 3 on the trot in the knockouts. If we win pool C (IF) then we play the runner up Pool D which could be England, Japan, Argentina or Samoa. On our day we could lose to England, Argentina or Japan, then its on to the Semi which could be any minnow like South Africa, New Zealand, France or Ireland…. then to the final – super unlikely that we can win 4 really tough matches (Wales in the pool game) and then a QF, SF and Final. It aint happening folks.

Shattered Wallabies feel they 'let the country down' but reject Mortlock's dire World Cup prediction after Italy fiasco

Incredible ambassador for the sport and role model for every young girl around the world to play our great game!!! Take a bow Ruby Tui!!!

The beautiful Ruby Tui moment that echoes Sonny Bill

He’d be a country mile ahead of anything near the wallabies at #15 . Kellaher showing some promise, Hodge is awful – Tom Wright has also flirted with full back and is worse than Hodge.

Seven NRL players Rugby Australia should poach

He’d be a walk up starter if I was selecting to play ANYTHING!!!

Seven NRL players Rugby Australia should poach

Great article – I have been thinking about this a lot. Scenario play here for a sec. What if RA won the $100M lottery who should they poach from the NRL. Here are my picks:
at #15 Jimmy Tedesco, Wingers Joseph Sua’ali’i & Xavier Coates. Centres: Latrell Mitchell and Victor Radley, #10 Nathan Cleary, #9 – Harry Grant. (he would leave opposition having sleepless nights!). You need a couple of reserves too – Joey Manu & Valentine Holmes. I know some players have elected to play for others countries but I get they’d come back for the right deal in Union 🙂

One thing I would like to say about this game is how impressed I was with the referee from Georgia – Mr Nika Amashukeli. I think he handled the match brilliantly – let advantage run, wasn’t pedantic until Marius (let me get involved) Jonker has to have his say after being nice and quiet for much of the game. Big statement – I would say that was the best referring display of the year from Mr Amashukeli!! Well done.

30 second advantage or sorts…I think a great idea!

Open letter to World Rugby: Pull TMO into line and give us back imperfections that made the game beautiful

They are ignoring 70% of Sydney – west and south west.

NRL grand final week proves rugby’s failings in the west

Great article terry. Oh boy where do you start with this one. Firstly, Rugby Australia leadership over the past 20 years should hold their heads in shame failing to capitalise on what I refer to as the glory days or “Eales” era of rugby success in Australia. Seriously how can you fail to capitalise on the popularity and profile from those days – literally they dropped the ball BIG TIME!!

Secondly and related to the above comment – they have failed to put a grass roots development of the game in place in the fastest growing area of Sydney (Rugby’s heartland) the western and south western suburbs. I think the cause here is the lack of diversity in leadership of Rugby Australia – not male female diversity but diversity in geographic background. How many folks in decision making position at Rugby Australia live west of the Gladesville bridge. I bet most of North Shore and Eastern Suburbs – head in the sand regarding whats going on out west and the opportunity they have missed, completely sidestepped by AFL, Soccer and the NRL.

I posted my letter via Twitter and tagged World Rugby and Billy Beaumont. Didn’t seriously think the Blazers in the UK would listen.

I think of the TMO’s increasing power it as the slow decline into a Police state. We are almost there.

Appreciate your perspective, I would challenge your view that the ball is in play for longer. I’m sure some statistician would prove one of us right or wrong on that. It feels awfully slow and stop start.

Bring it on!!

The problem with strict enforcement of offside (which I in theory agree with) is that is creates stoppages every 3 mins for a penalty – they we are back int he situation we are in with slow play.

I loved watching the NRL grand final on Sat. Play went for 6:34 before a whistle – amazing. Loved it.

Field hockey has red/yellow / green I think. Green is 2 mins. Maybe worth considering. Although the 2 mins may be spent on the side-line waiting for the next pre-lineout team conference LOL!!

Agree 100%

Great Idea – maybe I’ll start is a petition to World rugby to “clip the Wings of the TMO”. reckon they’d listen

IMHO – the slight difference is the Bunker does not interfere with play (with the exception of 6 again I guess)

It was beautiful to see!

I reckon they are guessing most times. They create this elaborate reason that they need 10 min to explain and the front row walk off shaking their heads. Happens all the time. If the ball has a chance of coming out who cares it if collapses – the aim of a scrum is to restart the game after a knock on. Resetting the scrum 15 times is not restarting the game.

I actually thought about that one long and hard but thought it may be a bridge too far. I agree with you – leave that for the Tuesday night tribunal. They can dish out bans for foul play.

Agree fully. Laws too complex, too technical and TMO too interfering.
