I quite like this team actually! I didn’t even consider Foley at 12 but it could work. If not, move falou into 12 and DHP to full back.

I reckon Cheika could be onto something here…

Wallabies team for Bledisloe 2: Quade Cooper to start at flyhalf, Foley inside centre

Agree. You can’t leave Hooper out as he brings far too much to the team and most importantly leads by example. This Hooper bashing the Road is so instant on is nonsense.

Time for Michael Cheika to select the way he played

That team makes me nervous.

Wallabies team to play All Blacks: Ben McCalman to start at blindside flanker

This.
So much clarity here.

The Wallabies bring clarity amid the Olympics murkiness

Agree on the Waltzing Matilda. Why was this stopped/banned ? From memory it was because one of the opposition teams complained about it – is this correct? Even though most of the crowd only knew the ‘Waltzing Matilda’ part, it was great belting that out!

The ARU has given England extra motivation

Great article mate.

The media do love to belittle the Wallabies. I remember writing a similar statement on social media when the Wallabies were being hounded by the Kurtley Beale/Di Anderson saga that was going on at the time. I think the public forgets these are real people and the support of their peers (and nation) is crucial to allowing them to become the best. Despite the loss, I haven’t been this excited in a Wallabies team since Larkham took the field. I truly believe we’re on to something special here and Cheika is to thank. Of course there are going to be creases to iron out when blooding new players and developing a unique and distinct style of play.

I’m proudly a huge Michael Hooper fan. I think what he brings to the game cannot be ignored and should be harnessed (which Cheika seems to be doing well) but I couldn’t help to stop and read this twice – “Without being rightfully secure in his natural position and given the value he’s worth in the Wallabies, David Pocock is unable to fulfill his rightful role as captain of the Wallabies.” I must admit, I agree, but can you give him the captaincy knowing he’s going on sabbatical? The problem with Poey is he’s either injured or off doing other things. He undoubtedly would be a great captain and bring the much needed onfield presence but his timing is wrong. I truly feel Hooper should be given the captaincy. He leads by example, he knows how to play in virtually all areas of attack and defence, is respected by his team and opposition alike and seems to be very mature under pressure. Why not reward him? I acknowledge you’re comments around him being an impact player but I see him as too valuable to not be on for the full 80. I suppose where I’m torn is where he should play because I do agree Pococok should be in position. Could we not play him at 6? Would it be that blasphemous?

And on to impact players. Cheika is surely doing this… I refuse to believe he’s moved away from him world cup winning strategies. He’s developing depth (as he promised he would) in the form of hard running rugby. With his whole bench available (Beale, Genia, etc) I’m under the impression the bench will be used in a far more tactical way. It’s almost as if he’s not giving too much away at the moment. Wishful thinking? Perhaps. But I think Cheika is simply giving game time to those who will ultimately play a long-term role in his overarching strategy.

Don't get too excited about questioning Cheika's appointment

Wow. Just wow.

Pulver slams AAMI Park surface, 2017 Test fixture in doubt

I’m surprise they didn’t put Damian McKenzie in there. The kid has plenty of talent and pace.

All Blacks name hardened team to face Wales

I like what you’ve done here and it’s almost bang on with my thinking.

I really wanted to pick Falou at 13 but I think with Hunt and DHP on the wings this will allow him to move more freely in attack. I would be reluctant to take Hooper off and instead would shift Fardy to the bench at the 60/70 min mark. Some notable mentions with this team:
– Hunt will play a first receiver role when not covering a kick or counter-attack allowing for more attacking opportunities from 10-13
– DHP will play loose and deep to allow Folau to attack the line freely
– Hooper will play in between Kerevi and Kurindrani when possible to allow for another attacking runner

Pick your Wallabies team: Who should play in the first Test against England?

Hooper played in the centres at school boy level and so it would be fair to say he knows the role. He’s shown on more than one occasion he knows how to run good lines at a back line and so it’s not so far-fetched but I question how strong his distribution skills are.

None the less, it would be interesting to see.

Folau likely to stay at fullback

Sorry for your loss mate. As a man who loves his dog I can only imagine the pain.
RIP Frank.

The talking points: Weird mid-season rugby-free weekend

10/10 – would read again.

The talking points: Weird mid-season rugby-free weekend

I find that hard to swallow.

Horwill offers a heap of experience and I doubt Cheika would be promising anything to anyone.

Horwill's Wallaby return deserved: Slipper

The point is to build the depth, Nancy.

Wallabies training squad for England series: Surprises galore in 39-man group

Have to agree with you here.

Fair enough he holds his nerve in the big games but he is very predictable.

Wallaby squad for England (well a possibility at least!)

I think Cheika said it rather well when interviewing with Fox Sports. Something to the degree of if he wants to play for Fiji then that’s probably because he has a strong affiliation with the culture and wants to better himself as a person by recognising it.

Also, I think everyone here is very quick to judge. Not just hayne, but each other too. Everyone seems to be making assumptions and what is it they say about assumptions?

My 2c, he could have been a great out-side back.

Jarryd Hayne's Wallaby ineligibility is good for Australia

Whilst I agree with most of your comments I really can’t see why (and perhaps I’m misreading the article) there is a general tone or assumption the Wallabies are destined for failure. Have some faith. This is the best talent pool I’ve seen in years and if there is anyone who has proven his worth of taking the reigns it’s undoubtedly Cheika.

I feel like the media have been at the Wallabies since Gregan couldn’t bring Bill home. I think it’s important to remember the players do in fact read what the general public and fans have to say and I don’t think negativity is the right solution to empowering a team with the mental game to win.

I think we really need to get behind the boys more. Fair enough they aren’t performing as well as we would have hoped but together they can come out on top.

Carn Wallabies.
