During 2018 and 2019, Brodie Grundy had the AFL world at his fingertips. An athletic, dynamic ruckman that was more than just a tap…
I think you’ve missed the point of the article, to be honest.
What does Buddy Franklin have to do with this? Hawthorn decided not to pay him big money and they went on to win premierships without him. That doesn’t mean Franklin wasn’t worth the money he was asking for. He went to Sydney on big money and still played excellent football. He helped them get to three grand finals and unfortunately they weren’t able to win one. Coleman medallist in 2014 and 2017. All-Australian 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (c). 7 time Sydney leading goal kicker. Most players that are on big money have lived up to their expectations like Dusty, Franklin, Ablett Jr, Cameron, and the list goes on.
Grundy most likely would’ve still played terrible regardless of which club gave him the big contract. He was worth big money at the time he signed. He then went on to play terrible. The point of this article isn’t about list management. It’s about a player who insisted he is one of the best players in the competition and then didn’t live up to his expectations. To suggest that it would be the club’s fault that a superstar player worth big money suddenly has a capitulation in form is an absurd argument.
Brodie Grundy only has himself to blame for Collingwood exit - so why were the Pies the biggest losers?
