stewart didnt thow the first punch mate…check the tape. it was blair on lussick. Blair is a cat and deserved what he got

Stewart suspended for three; okay for grand final

I think the problem is the domination of Vic. Perhaps splitting Vic into a Vic country and metro in some way might even things up. I also think NT having a team is a wate of time, why not pool NSW/ACT and QLD into one team then rank Vic (Metro), Vic (County), WA, SA. TAS and Eastern (“All stars” even though the tag is trashy). That gives 6 team. You could rank from there and play the Divisional comp outlined in the article.

How to structure an AFL State of Origin

i agree with Brendan. Paul Roos would be an excellent choice. Go the Dees

Bailey: poor coach or unfortunate victim of circumstances?

i am not a Hawthorn fan but the article is a tad harsh. They were the equal of Geelong two weeks ago and mainain a great record against them since 2008. I believe they are probably 3rd or 4th in the pecking order this season (Fremantle are looking the goods)

Hawthorn Hawks has lost its way since 2008

i dont necessarily think the focus for the swans should be on defense. In 2010 they maintained good structure at the back and the efforts of Grundy, Bolton (when fit) and LRT was impressive. I think the main issue for the Swannies iis kicking goals (the same issue they faced in 2010). If Bradshaw remains fit they still need a second target up from. I dont think Goodes can fill that breach which means possibly continuing to “blood” Jesse White in that role. There are plenty of crumbers up front and O’Keeffe can contribute from half forward but that wont be enough. The familiar style of defensive “lock down” wont be the style that Horse Longmire will want to play. They need to work to their strenghts which is pace and a multi-pronged attack. Still need two genuine FF’s as targets to be effective.

Defence the key for Swans

despite the annoyance of the collingwood army and there constant whingeing I think they’ll topple Saints tomorrow. I think it will be closer than the Cats victory and saints will need to play it very tight and physical if they are to have a hope. The key for the saints are Riewoldt, Goddard and good clearances. Dane Swan will win the Norm Smith medal.

Why Collingwood will win the AFL Premiership

svenman, your commets reek of ignorance and bias towards in favor of the swans. Put simply, the Swans have not yet beaten a top 8 side let alone a top 4 team. They are top of table courtesy of a favourable draw. Teh swans need to prove their worth agaist a rebounding Brisbane team this weekend. The Dee’s have built momentum by playing to their strengths and clearly an off-season that increased their fitness levels from 2009. They are playing attractive footy and thats what the Swans need to prove they can do againt quality opposition.

Melbourne’s demons now in the past

Good article Justin, I think the Swans are playing a niche brand of footy and what they are really excelling at is running out of the midfield and half back line. Nick Malceski and Taigh Kenelly are specialsts. What has impressed me is the quick integration of the Mumford, Seaby, Kennedy and McGlynn into the team. Its though they have been there for years.
Swans are a chance at the “8” this year but I dont think they have the firepower in front of goal to match Brisbane, Saints, Geelong and the Magpies. They probably sit on the next rung of teams with Hawthorn, Bulldogs and possibly Carlton. Apart from Bradshaw they dont have a full fledged FF, however they are playing very tactically smart footy and there run and leads in and near the forward 50 is exceptional.
The test will be a team in the top 4.

Sydney Swans no longer the ugly ducklings

good article Luke, as a Melbourne Demons fan this year shows some promise and the results of some momentum over the last 3 years. I think overall that Dean Bailet has done a tremendous job with the team he has to work with however his coaching style may not suceed as a high performance club such as Geelong or St Kilda. He has been rectuited as coach to work with younger players as more of a mentoring coach rather that a high performance coach such as Ross Lyon and Mick malthouse.
Damien Hardwicke has many challenges and more to do with the overall poor performance of the Richmond footy club in the last 2 decades, not to mentioned the wasted years under Terry Wallace. He has a huge challenge along with Brad Scott and in some ways they are where Bailey was two seasons ago.
Good article and go the Dee’s.

The challenge of coaching without the cattle

This ones for Ashley…….Broncos need all the help they can get this year, with Hodges out and a depleted back they’ll struggle to make the 8. BTW I’M a Manly fan….go the Eagles!!!

Broncos lose valuables but could still win it

very poor form by Mathew Stokes, as he is also a fringe player at best, the cats will want to distance themselves from this. I think his contract should be torn up regardless of the legal outcomes.

Stokes could face lifetime ban if found guilty
