Current definition? Perhaps. But an actual spear tackle is driving a player backwards head first into the ground, not lifting them, flipping them and then dropping them on their head.

If all the Panther/Cleary lovers on this forum are honest, they would have to admit that IF that was Latrell Mitchell or Sam Burgess, they would be baying for blood and calling for them to be suspended for the GF and another 4 – 5 weeks beyond that. Unfortunately, they are all bigoted hypocrites blinded by their hatred for the Bunnies and their envy of the Rabbitohs being “The Pride of the League”.

IMHO, jimmmy the Rabbitohs vs Panthers qualifying final has been the pick of the finals games so far. Not because of the result, but because of the standard of refereeing and the flow of the game and defence was top-notch. The Eels game was marred by some very inept refereeing decisions that changed the result of the game.

Only because the end result was not the same. If it were, would you still be arguing?

Perhaps we should change tack Big Mig as we are being picked up on a technicality. Technically it wasn’t a spear tackle, but Cleary did lift well past the horizontal with his hands between the legs and then dumped the defenceless player on his head.

All year we have seen players suspended for lifting with the hands between the legs past the horizontal and then dropping players on their heads. The NRL and judiciary have backed themselves into a corner. If it was a player other than Cleary it would be a forgone conclusion they would be gone for next week. The MRC and judiciary CANNOT rule on personalities or protect players because their dad is mates with journos, commentators, referees and NRL HQ.

No. They didn’t Joe. The Panthers still lost the 2020 Grand Final and if they lose to the Rabbitohs next week then any thoughts of revenge will go unrealised.

Shhhhh Steve. The Bunnies are trying to fly under the radar as underdogs. Don’t start giving tips away, just in case Ivan is trolling the Rugby League forums looking for ideas to embarrass Bennett in the GF press conference.

Being picked up and dumped on your head isn’t dangerous then R N? Tell that to Alex McKinnon.

Like I said, the Bunnies are the underdogs. The NRL already has the Panthers name carved on the Provan-Summons trophy and if they appoint either Atkins or Klein as referee over Sutton then the game will just be a formality. Still, the Bunnies will be grateful for the invitation to the Panthers party. 😁

Let’s just hope they haven’t learnt any lessons from last fortnight, Tom. 😁 👍

“hope the GF is of a higher quality”

Souths will do their part, Steve. If Ivan Cleary’s mates Atkin and Klein don’t get the whistle and Gerard Sutton puts in the same fair performance he did in the qualifying final.

Losing Welch and Smith early was a massive set back for the Storm. Especially Brandon Smith. The Panthers got lucky there. Of course, Panthers fans won’t give that a second thought as they were spared losing Luai and Cleary because clearly the HIA rules don’t apply to the Panthers. Think about what happened with Kikau returning to the field earlier in the year after he was felled like a Californian Redwood.

That depends on the speed, the brakes and the friction on the surface they are breaking on. 😁

Errors just kill you: Talking points from South Sydney’s rout of Manly

I played against Ian Roberts and Mario Fenech too, Adam. But I was never in that league.

Déjà vu – Manly to take down Souths in the preliminary final again

Oh, Tony! That headline doesn’t age well, does it? 😂 😂 😂

Déjà vu – Manly to take down Souths in the preliminary final again

So two clinical performances in a row against two of the in form teams in the competition isn’t convincing enough for you? Neither is the fact that since round 12 the Rabbitohs have been the no. 1 attacking in the NRL and the 2nd best defensive side after the Storm? I’ll bet if the Rabbitohs win the GF next week, you will say the same thing. Pfft! Enjoy retirement Flash. 😂

Scintillating Souths maul Manly to book grand final berth

“Two legitimate try’s disallowed”

Turn it up! The first try is ALWAYS called obstruction. It didn’t affect the play, but you CAN’T knock a defender over who has the opportunity to slide and release the outside defenders to cover an attacking raid. The second “Try” Tom dropped it. He dropped the F-bomb (which he NEVER does because he is a good lad). That was all you needed, surely? Turbo knew the ball had come loose, and it was NOT stripped! You sound like a Roosters supporter RB.

They say; “revenge is a dish best served cold”. Well, Bennett pulled that broadside out of the freezer, which he kept waiting for 3 years! With one fell swoop, Bennett turned the spotlight on himself during GF week and took the spotlight and the pressure off his side. An absolute master stroke!

'They undermined me': Wayne Bennett's massive swipe at the Broncos after booking grand final return

The touchies cop enough as it is from the crowd. Imagine the pressure they would be under to stop the game for the slightest reason from the crowd on the fence if they did.

I was surprised that Manly didn’t kick into space for Saab and to his wing more often. A missed opportunity perhaps?

“but just stop before you get there”

And defy general law of physics and the conservation of momentum principle? Momentum disappears entirely, instantly. Great in theory, but the mathematical proof of that is less certain, TB. 😁

“See Ivan, this is what cheating with trainers does, you put the welfare of players at risk”

They aren’t his players, so I honestly don’t see that wiping the smirk off his face, Adam.

Errors just kill you: Talking points from South Sydney’s rout of Manly

I honestly don’t think so, Tony. The game may have been closer, but the result would have been the same. Souths were battle hardened after the qualifying final and a full 80-minute effort. Their defence is improving each week, along with their confidence and self-belief. The Bunnies were always in the driver’s seat, IMHO. They just weren’t pressured to go up a gear or two. They are saving that for next week… even though they will clearly be the underdogs. 😛

I bet it isn’t something that teams train for, Tony. 😂 A secret tactic for next week perhaps? 😛

If Paulo had stopped and turned, I think Turbo would have caught him. Paulo used his momentum well until he was at the try line and made the adjustment. The kid still has a lot of mistakes in his game, like his poor defensive read that directly lead to a late try for Manly, but he is improving with every game and way ahead of Mansour IMO in cementing his position in the side.

And I was 100% right with my prediction, but got my tip wrong. Figure that one out. 😛
