Totally agree. If the AFL was ever going to go with a conference system it would have to be related to the previous years results, rather than a fixed conference system, that would make it even and minimise blow-out matches
Time for the AFL to make that conference call
Conference B – would be a simple way for the AFL to relocate, merge or relegate (to VFL) North and Wests
Time for the AFL to make that conference call
Not too sure about conferences, Promotion/relegation and divisional systems. We need something original and equal
Time for the AFL to make that conference call
Footy’s neally here!!!
My life, Religion and any form of a conversation-starter is back.
NAB Cup, for the next 5 weeks then striaght into it the next week, with the Giants and swans, then the week after the rest of round 1, then the season follows.
3 weeks to my first trial, theen season will be just around corner, cant wait
The annual AFL off-season wait is almost over
How is he the biggest mistake? If anyone is going to promote the gamne, it’s him and if anyone is going to demand the most from players its him. He’s the man
Giants inspired to prove doubters wrong
AFL was never a sport, always been the national competition, since 1990, when it became the AFL, before then it was the VFL and before the VFL was established in 1897, it was the VFA.
AFL clubs' leadership groups getting out of hand
What about this. Divisional System, not Conference.
This would be this years divisions, according to last years results.
Division 1
Geelong
Collingwood
Hawthorn
West Coast
Sydney
Carlton
Division 2
St. Kilda
Essendon
North Melbourne
Western Bulldogs
Fremantle
Richmond
Division 3
Melbourne
Adelaide
Brisbane
Port Adelaide
Gold Coast
Greater Western Sydney
Vs Each Team in your division twice and vs everyone else once. Next Year, the winner in division 2 and 3 move up a division and the losers from division 1 and 2 move down. Finals systems all stay the same, just evens up the draw and enables teams playing against teams about the same ability and enables less blow-out games.
AFL divisions are the way of the future
Yuck Collingwood!
Jokes aside, they are no doubt the biggest club in Australia and only getting bigger, which is scary.
AFL's most hated club turns 120 years old
By saying divisional system you mean conference system?
why not have the top 6 teams, from the previous year in a “division” “not conference” and the middle division and last division. And each year the bottom finishing teams move down and top teams move up. 22 round system you said is good too.
AFL divisions are the way of the future
Why not both? 😀
Seriously i believe the giants will go all out this season, ithink either T. Walker or Hurley and Pendlebury or Goddard, are bound for Breakfast Point. Plus a lot more!!!
Hopefully none from Sydney.
Pendlebury or Goddard: surely one is GWS bound
I’d like the AFL to seriously consider fixing the issue of tanking, i don’t believe it exists but, others do and the AFL need to remove the concept completely.
Answer for tanking staring AFL in the face
There’s no doubt whatsoever that it’s an enormous step up from NEAFL to AFL. The players are bigger and better and more skillful, the game plans are perfected. Folau is going to struggle to win the ball, it’s not going to just come to him, he’ll have to work extremely hard to win it. The delivery will be less and less effective. I think 40 goals maybe in 2013 or 2014, if he kicks 20 goals, for a team that will struggle to get a few wins in 2012, would be fantastic.
Folau can kick 40 goals for GWS, says Sheedy
Everyone under-estimates the Swans a potential top 4 team, for sure. Finished 5th the last two years, can challenge any team. With only 4 remaining premiership players, they are doing very well.
Who will rise in AFL's season 2012?
i expect the bottom 4 teams you have listed, effectively double by halfway through the season.
you’d expect fremantle to be about 30,000.
Who will rise in AFL's season 2012?
Fox Footy
GWS
Sydney Swans
NAB Cup
Premiership season
Draft
Trade week
Who GWS get Pendlebury/Goddard or T.Walker/Hurley

What are you most excited for this AFL season?
Same talk last year for the Gold Coast. THey won three games. Expect the Giants to win 2 – 3 games. With the coaching pannel and experienced premiership players playing along side the best athletes in the game, don’t expect them to not win a game.
Will GWS Giants win a game in 2012?
I think any player can be moulded to suit any sport.
The offer will certainly be more attractive to young athletes aspiring to made it to the big time, from the AFL.
More rugby league players to defect to the AFL?
Upon the departure of the Gosford Tigers (WildCats) this year in the 1st Division (previously Reserves) and U18’s a new team will be entered into their competitions Maitland Saints. Which means That’ll take the total Newcastle based teams to 7 and Central Coast based teams to 3. In the U18’s Singleton will be included (last year pulled out few weeks before season began). In the BD Cup (formerly First Grade) Nelson Bay will enter a team, taking the total of teams in the BD Cup to Newcastle 6 and Central Coast 3.
AFL in Sydney keeps on growing
Along with many of the members on this article, i agree that State of Origin died with Ted Whitten. State of Origin was an annual event which changed over time to eventually bring all states and territories together. It was played so that every state and territory had a team to follow. Now that their are 8 teams outside Victoria, each state barring Tasmania having two teams, it’s easy for the general public to follow a team at the elite level. Although Tasmania don’t have a team, the north gets 4 premiership games a year and the south as of this year getting 2, but expect that number to rise. Canberra has had many teams their during the last decade, now have a the Giants playing 3 premiership games a year their for a further decade. Darwin/Northern Territory, although doesn’t have a team linked to their as such, which i believe either a victorian team or Port Adelaide will be linked to their soon, they get up to 2 premiership games a year, but the territory certainly gets behind THe “NT Thunder” who won the inaugural NEAFL premiership and went close to the last 4 teams in the Foxtel Cup.
Wishing for State of Origin to come back to AFL
Ditch the pools system.
Have rounds 1 – 4, results recorded on a mini-ladder and Round 5 is dedicated to teams playing for finishing positions. For example Grand final between the team that finished 1st vs team that finished 2nd, to see who wins the NAB Cup, 3rd vs 4th, playing for 3rd spot, 5th playing 6thy for 5th spot, etc.
