There certainly are a large number of quality young outside backs lighting up the game at the moment…
I read a really good article a couple of days ago stating that great forwards need 2 or 3 years under their belt before they make a solid dent in the NRL.. I can’t remember where I read it, but i would tend to agree.. whether that be due to lack of time on the field or size & power.. We just don’t seem to see that many make their mark as a young 20yo forward…

Age being no boundary, Taukeiaho & Frizell have been my favourite forwards to watch for the year thus far..

2015: The Year of the Young Gun

Yeah, I agree, but he hasn’t been able to make a big enough impact just yet as his side has really let him down..
For a losing side, Jake has been looking one of the sharpest off the bench.. Replace big Willie with him I reckon! ;P

Tom will be a massive boost once he’s back.

2015: The Year of the Young Gun

Completely agree.. he just needs more game time! 207 run metres & 2 tries on debut!! It’s a massive shame he got injured!

2015: The Year of the Young Gun

I agree both great players! Tom’s only fault is that of the team around him who have been underwhelming.. He is doing great considering however!
And Grevsmuhl has a ways to go.. He still has a bit of ball control to grow on & strengthening his options when he takes on the line. An awesome attacking player to watch though, don’t get me wrong! He’s going to be tough with a few years of first grade under his belt!

2015: The Year of the Young Gun

Yeah fair call about the above 3, but I tried to stick with players who 21 years & under.
I rate Taukeiaho as a massive threat off the bench! Great player!
Boyd is a great ball runner also! He is the future leader for the Raiders forwards.
I agree that Asiata is a one to watch, but still has a way to go in making his mark.

2015: The Year of the Young Gun

Completely agree with this article! Penalty was way too harsh. And the money for all such fines need to go to a charity! Gallen was a scapegoat for something bigger here.
(This was a tweet that was linked (or replied if you may) to a tweet, which could only be seen if you clicked on the original tweet, or clicked on PG’s profile (which no-one “reeeally” does) & would have never shown up on some lil kid fans twitter page as one of PG’s ” public tweets”.
Public, yes, but not really.. so thanks again for exploiting the game media!!)

I personally believe this is yet another mountain made by a tiny, tiny mole hill!

50 grand for a tweet? Criminals get off lighter

I’ve read some pretty terrible articles on this site…. This one is defo up there!

Lyon even gets a mention? Really?

Hayne Plane or Spruce Goose?

The NRL does ‘make it’ down here in VIc.
Come to any game between the Storm & the Warriors & you”ll see a packed stadium every time!
Also Storm games against the Rabbits get a good turn out too!

But the answer to your question is grass roots isn’t as successful down here. Not in comparison to AFL by a long shot. Kids get to watch/meet many of their favourite players train almost every week. Too tempting to want to idolize their heroes & take up the sport. Same for NRL in the 2 major states..

NRL takes State of Origin to the MCG for 2015 and beyond

Hell Yes! This is a good day for the “Most Liveable City” dwellers!
I can’t stand AFL. Stoaked to see a big NRL Rep game played down this way! Well done Smithy!!
Can’t wait!

You need to go watch the replay of the game.
This event in the game happened incredibly fast. I would say less than half a second. It was that incredibly fast. There is no way Tait could have had an incling of a thought until after he hit the ground. Upon reflection, sure he could’ve been rattled, scared & had every ‘what if’ running through his mind, but saying he felt as though he had no control when it was less than a second is impossible. Tait is one of my favourite players due to his die hard attitude on the field, but I lost a little respect for Tate after the way he delivered his comments. I understand he has come through serious neck injury himself, he has been an advocate for eliminating dangerous tackles out of the game after McKinnon’s disaster, and am certainly not saying he wasn’t scared. But his comments were heavily victimous & exaggerated. If he honestly felt the way he described, he needs to retired before he actually gets hurt.
And on the tackle itself, i’m not disagreeing that it wasn’t dangerous, but Reynold’s tackle was pertectly placed at the ribs. It was Scott coming over top that changed the momentum.
Go watch the replay. The game is far too fast & physical for poorly bias, negative articles like this to be written with a focus on the wrong player involved.
Go watch the replay…

Rugby league's night of shame

Personally I’m still a massive fan of stand alone weekends. I can see why people think this is an issue.. i just don’t think those points are an issue. Fans/media will complain & make a big fuss either way.

The opportunity of a NZ vs Pacific Origin which was mentioned a few days ago could play part on the same weekends. This idea would have a massive impact accross the pacific & will be seen as one of the biggest series of events to keep an eye on for anyone living in NZ (and each pacific island aswell i’m sure. Imagine all the big hits & run away tries we will see! *mouth waters*)

Offer a 3rd game option for each weekend to add abit of spice & away we go! Here’s some suggestion for each weekend..
If the City/Country game really is about tradition & not Origin selection, then this could be moved to the first weekend.
Give PNG an international game on one of the remaining weekends. (Maybe Italy as there’s alot of players in the NRL from that side.) The publicity lights need to be shined brighter onto the PNG heartland!
And a third game option.. well i’m sure the NRL could get creative on this one. I’d love to see a mid season All Stars game between NSW & Qld cup teams. Shed a bit of spotlight on the players in the 2nd grade! (Not an origin fixture. A Cup teams vs Cup teams fixture.)

3 games on each weekend the NRL ceases should be enough footy for us & it means we don’t see the thrashings that we are sure to see over the coming days. And to put it simply, it grows the game as a whole!

I love Rugby League as an overall sport, i watch as many games as i can fit in over a weekend (and oftenly through the week thanks to the internet gods!). The more competitive games we see through out the year can only be a good thing! Any & every game should be highlighted as great opportunities to show off some passion for the sport!

How long will the NRL devalue its own competition?

My favourite Hooker to watch! He’s a perfect fit at Souths! Well retained Rabbits!

Rabbitohs re-sign Isaac Luke for three more years

Sure is Champ!
Good to hear from ya Bug!

Cheers

Is Gorgeous George about to re-bloom?

As a kiwi, i would LOVE to see this series happen! There is so much pride in the NZ rugby league supporters, with obvious notions that the same goes for each Pacific Nations (ala Samoa/Fiji game), but roll around Origin time we are cheering on 1 of 2 sides which essentially mean nothing to us besides big hits & star players.
The Marketing team who took on the Nines could easily make this huge! This event would go off!! (Maybe not to Australians, but to the rest of us it would be massive!!)
But i agree with the schedule needs to be fixed with stand alone weekends. You’re kidding yourself if would prefer to keep it the way it is, as who wants to see their team battle a half arsed effort with out their star players come origin?? Not too many i would guess!? (This coming from a Warriors supporter who only loses Lillyman once or twice a year, imagine being a storm or Broncos supporter during this time.. geez talk about heartbreak!)

It is time for a New Zealand v Pacific Islands Origin series?

Yeah, I saw that too.. he’s just that sort of player. He also refused to shake Sandow’s hand after the game. He’s a great asset, but very careless & a very poor loser. But that’s Hodgie!

We need to modify rules of tackling

I hate getting involved in these squabbles, taking such a negative stance towards an article.. but this is getting ridiculas!
Safe Guarding these trained Rugby League ‘Athletes’ as society today is safe guarding your 4 year old child from the jungle gym is totally insane!
Water down the greatest sport in the world by restricting tackles & there goes the core of today’s hardcore fans. The fact that you mentioned union in the same arguement also says alot..

McKinnon was involved in a freak accident.. It is as simple as that.. I can assure anyone, Alex will do an interview in a few months, stating how much he see’s the situation as an accident & how much he still loves the game.
Let’s quit using his name as an excuse to try & water down the sport.. it’s disrespectful to the young man who was such a hard-working tackler when he took the field before such a devastating accident.

We need to modify rules of tackling
