If we force them out, who do we replace them with? What damage would that do to Aus Rugby and how long would it take to recover?

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

Some pretty hot takes here Jimbo!

Regarding combinations such as Gordon/Edmed, isn’t that what we have in White/Lolesio? Aside from that, I do agree that Noah (and the backline) has managed to effectively unlock defences on their own try line.

I struggle with the view towards Hooper. It seems that almost every single coach that speaks about Hooper praises him incredibly highly. I really don’t believe that highly trained and experienced coaches would be wrong, and punters like yourself and I would be right.

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

That’s the truth of it huh! We keep coming back for more…

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

What if it was consistent success? I think I’d happily be bored then 😁

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

Darren Coleman when asked about taking the 3 with the Tahs clearly stated that the team have a plan/approach for when to kick to the corner, and when to take the 3.

I don’t think the commentary around tries vs penalties should be centred around the captain. He would, almost without a doubt, be following the directions of the coach.

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

Here’s hoping Mr Fox, thanks for the read!

The problem with supporting the Wallabies

Great article Geoff, thanks for the positivity and ideas for future growth.

A couple of questions arise from my perspective as a teacher:

1. With the improvement in VCE participation at the school, was that a standalone initiative or did it happen in concert with other school improvement initiatives?
2. When you state it should exist within the curriculum, I’m not certain how this works in reality. Do the Academy players attend all subjects together, inclusive of staples like Science and History? Is their training in the afternoon, or built into compulsory PDHPE and sporting time?

Growing rugby in Australia through the state school system: No, this isn’t a joke

Peter, don’t believe all that you hear. As a teacher of many years, I haven’t heard of a single school who truly has taken TKAM off their curriculum. At least in NSW that’s my experience.

The Wrap: Australian rugby, you have two important jobs this week

May be because his experience had largely been at a semi-professional level before the LA Giltinis. That may have been the final stepping stone needed to demonstrate his ability at a wholly professional level.

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Yep, fair enough on all fronts. I just hope he is given the time.

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Really? I’m super interested to see why you think Rennie is a dud coach.

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Cheers JD.

I think it’s a good comparison to make, with Thorn. I believe DC has more runs on the board than Thorn in terms of where they’re starting at Super level, but I’m less confident in the willingness of the Board to actually keep him on.

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

What I’m concerned about is that the Board only wanted to give him 2 years, rather than 3. He had to fight/push to make that happen.

Sure, there was an external recruiter running the interview process, but I don’t believe they’d be setting terms for the length of the contract.

Where’s their confidence in the process and rebuild required if they’re only offering the incoming coach two years?

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Born and bred NSW rugby, always aspired to the gig, has a track record of turning underperforming teams around. Many reasons!

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

And that’s it huh, the idea of hope. It’s tantalising, easy to hold on to, easy to crush, but easy to grasp again when searching for improvement.

Hope never dies, right?

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

Cheers Ken, appreciate it!

Enjoyed the metaphors, was a fun way to tie things together. May have taken some inspiration from NB for that approach!

Darren Coleman’s not the Messiah, he’s just bloody good

I know his isn’t the focus of the article, but I’d love more insight into Petaia’s lack of form. He’s playing poorly at the moment, making bad attacking decisions and his handling of the ball is unreliable to say the least. I wouldn’t have him close to my Wallabies 23 in his current form.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

Any thoughts on Campbell being left out of the Wallabies 40? I find it interesting they’ve only got one out and out fullback, Banks. Hodge is really the only other cover for the spot, rest of the wingers chosen are pure wingers!

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

Cusack faces the lottery of the disciplinary panel, while Brown injured his shoulder in the match and isnout for a while.

Why picking the best players does not always make the best team

That’s super interesting, hadn’t seen that article before, thanks for the share!

The Wrap: Injuries and depth to determine Super Rugby AU

I question how true those reports really were, and how much was motivated by his manager/agent. There really didn’t seem to be any substance beyond the initial report, and rumours died down quite quickly

The Wrap: Injuries and depth to determine Super Rugby AU

Wow. Two of the best Tahs players in 2020 and you say that?

Objectively, what were your issues with their performances?

Looking forward to the Tahs’ season? Nah, yeah

Got to interview him for my pod the other week (out now, Pick and Drive Rugby! 😀 ) and I was mightily impressed with the positivity Harro brought.

We were honest and suggested 2021 would be a struggle with the exodus of talent, but he was seeing it as a positive as much of the pressure was off them and they could buy into the direction of Penney and perform to their best.

Looking forward to the Tahs’ season? Nah, yeah

The ruck was a constant issue on Friday night. We couldn’t secure our own ball, and seemed to have very little on-ball presence until Tizzano took to the field.

I’m fairly worried, especially considering that nobody in the starting pack is a renowned ruck money (aside from Tizzano, who is unproven at this level).

Looking forward to the Tahs’ season? Nah, yeah

I’m getting fairly excited with Jack Whetton. Seems to have the musculature and breeding (in NZ rugby) to fill that role well. At least, he’s more exciting in my mind than Caird and Sykes.

Looking forward to the Tahs’ season? Nah, yeah
