Australia doesn’t have the market to support a second division – this is not the UK or Japan.

The AFL, NRL and Super 15s don’t have a second division or relegation/promotion either.

Will never happen in football in this country.

We are not as good as the J-League or K-League yet, but not that far behind.
I’m expecting Roar to bounce back and get a couple of good away results too, so not all lost yet.
Let’s not crucify the A-League on one loss to a J-League team during the first round in conditions that did not suit them.

A-League sides in Asia: not schooled, just learning

No apaway – that’s all the FFA’s fault.

Unfortunate as it is that its happened at such a crucial time and when the A-League was actually on the up again, I think the genuine fans of the A-League will take it in its stride and the league will go on without Palmer. Gorman is a good administrator and could caretake GCU till the end of the season.

I am more determined than ever to get along to some games in the next few weeks and support the League. Go Heart!
They need us now more than ever.

I think Lowy’s legal team is as good as Palmer’s and he acted on good advice and isn’t throwing money away.

Will be interetsing to see if GCU field a team this week and continue to play out the remaining four games.
At least GCU aren’t going to make the finals!

FFA, not Palmer, to blame for Gold Coast's death

Well said JAJI.
Agree wholeheartedly.

And what about Palmer not talking to the FFA, changing his shirt and stadium advertising without permission of the FFA or the league and contavening existing contracts.

The FFA should be suing Palmer, not the other way around.

FFA, not Palmer, to blame for Gold Coast's death

I thought SBS had gotten over their A-League hangover and were a bit more responsive to the competition lately, but it seems the agenda is still there when someone mouths off similar concerns.

The main issue is that they think that dragging the FFA, the A-League and every football administrator in the country through the mud will make things better.

It doesn’t, it actually makes things worse especially with the self interest and bias in the sporting media. Demeitriou and Gallop will be laughing in their sleep unable to control their joy at how the code is attacking itself from within again. By its own so called journalists.

SBS shouldn’t have given Palmer the air time.

The conversations Palmer is having with the Australian media should be had with Ben Buckley and the FFA board, not journalists who are all too keen to put the game and its administrators down.

The SBS team thought they were being clever, but in the end they were being used by Palmer and ended up looking like slippery soiled condoms.

Palmer's frustration is with the FFA's financing of football

I meant mainly in terms of him not having a club or having played any real first team football for nearly 2 seasons?

He obviously won’t be in top form.

Socceroos squad announced for WCQ - Kewell, Bresciano recalled

Very interesting selection stats for this one.

Out of the 19 player squad 15 are current or recent A-League players now playing in Asia.
Only 2 from Euro leagues and 2 from Arab Leagues.

Obviously not a FIFA Calendar date and more Euro League players would have been selected otherwise, but a great opportunity for the A-League reperesentatives to get a run, which is one of Holger’s positive legacies compared to previous managers.

I think it also represents an improved standard of A-League.

Why does Holger persist with North and Carney,

Please explain.

Most football people know who Palmer is and how he has embarrassed the A-League with his running of GCU, so no real problem there, when he blames everyone but himself for the GCU failings.

The people who agree with him and say the FFA are useless, already hated the FFA anyway, so no new enemies there either.

Those enemies of the FFA include the SBS so they were very happy to get him on the show and giving Buckley and the FFA a hard time.

The Only real disappointment is that its all happening when the A-League is actually improving – Buckley is right when he says the A-League attendances are up over 30%, TV ratings are up and a couple of A-League ratings records were set this year and revenues are up.

It’s a shame we have this public spat taking the shine of what was a very good year. And on the field the standard of play and entertainment has been a big improvement too. We, as a football community, don’t need this public blood letting right now to set things back again.

On his comment about the FFA being broke and having to get $8M handout – the FFA gets $8M every year from the federal government. Its part of a deal that was struck years ago with Rudd and Ellis. And it’s a whole lot less than every other code gets in government handouts, even the AFL who have bags of money already.

The FFA is not just the A-League either – it has several international teams for boys, girls, men and women to run on top of the hundreds of local competitions, academies, football skills, football development and other things compared to other codes. It’s expensive to run and most of their activities generate no income.

Football is the most played team sport amongst young Australians and helps keep them fit and healthy more than any other code, so teh $8M is money well spent really.

And why would any football owner or coach in their right mind want their players playing for the Olyroos or any other international team. It would take your best players away from the club for weeks and weaken your team. Shows the total lack of football understanding that Palmer has.

And what has Palmer got to do with Olyroos selection anyway – what judge of football talent is he – he wouldn’t be able to tell a striker from a midfielder if anyone asked him.

The FFA finds themselves in a difficult position and Buckley’s comments are understandably guarded given Palmers large fortune and huge legal team and their liking to destroy people in court.

What will Palmer’s comments about the FFA do to make GCU more profitable?
Isn’t that onus on him, as the owner of the club to put things right with the fans and the GC football community?

How to watch AFL in 2012

We’ll have to wait and see Wookie and there will be a lot of double counting with the same people tuning in to more than one showing.

How to watch AFL in 2012

I can buy a miriad of software packages that allows me to watch FTA on my computer or phone – there’s no law against that.
http://mobiletvpro.com/

Don’t be so precious about your content, Optus have every right to do this. They are just providing the same service, which is FREE to anyone in Australia who can get the signal.

Telstra got ripped off by the AFL paying $153M for the rights.

Mobile madness: Optus decision bad news for codes

The people’s struggle against oppression and injustice is not isolated to Egypt. People are prepared to die right around the world.

Its a very complex issue and not really a case of people stabbing each other “becasue there are nil all draws in soccer”.

But that’s how some people think.

What happened in Port Said was not a football riot

The Egyptian football association relied on the police and security guards to keep order – they don’t administer it themselves.

The security police stood back and watched and did nothing while the whole thing was going on.

I’m not sure what the Egyptian FA could have done to prevent it happening – seems to be politically motivated and an issue of social order.

What happened in Port Said was not a football riot

Football is the most popular sport in the world and gets the world’s most media coverage.

What about the guy who handcuffed himself to the posts, that story was broadcast right around the world..

What happened in Port Said was not a football riot

The activists or anarchists or whatever use football arenas because it is such a hugely popular sport and they know they will get worldwide media attention.

The Egyptian Ultras weren’t going to target an exhibition AFL game in Bahrain to take out their revenge on the world.

The dreadful events were the culmination of political uprisings and revenge killings over the past few years and unfortunately were done at a football stadium.

As Mike points out there are many unanswered questions about why this was allowed to happen, which have nothing to do with the sport being played.

What happened in Port Said was not a football riot

Another AFL hater.

GWS Giants lack a true sense of home

Well said midfielder – its word of mouth and continued improvement and good behaviour that will make the source of these biased stories start to dry up.

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

How many fake football fans do we have on here?

“I’ve followed soccer for 30 years and now I hate it . . . . I’m sick of the victim mentality . . . ”

Its not a victim mentality, its the reality of Australian media bias.

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

For someone who has followed football for 30 years you have a very narrow view of the world.

We are talking “soccer” not AFL, if that makes it any clearer for you?

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

Even the Federal govt investigated the claims and found nothing wrong.

The Age were just using the FFA’s stance to publicise their newspaper and put down the WC bid so that the AFL and Demetriou would get their way in the end and the WC wouldn’t be played in Melbourne.

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

Maybe the Age had a case to answer.

They said some disparaging things about Lowy and the FFA which were all proven to be false.
But being innocent in an AFL town doesn’t matter does it.

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

Negative articles on the back page of the Melbourne Sun do tend to sell well, unless they are neagtive articles about AFL, but that’s not going to happen is it.

Its not just the media’s fault is it though, the people who read those papers buy those papers and they think like the editors do, so its a matter of slow and sure progress to educate people with a better product and better behaviour, which I think is happening..

Melbourne's A-League media battleground

The Asian teams are very strong and even the Roar might struggle.

They need to be better prepared and the Aussie teams don’t have the resources or the squads to compete effectively, so they will have to hold out and defend a lot better in the away legs and bank on good results at home.

Interestingly the FFA have announced that they will lift the 23 player restriction on squad sizes next season – can the clubs afford to keep a bigger playing roster? Is the FFA set to announce a bigger TV deal and give more money to clubs next season?

How will our A-League teams fare against Asia's best?
