I have reported it and contacted the editors.
It’s not acceptable at all
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
Agreed. Nic Nat is a player you build a team around.
And for those who don’t think highly of him – most ruckmen hit their prime at age 23/24. It takes the bigger players longer to develop. Why do you think we see it so often with key forwards?
He is 24 at the moment. We are only going to see the best of him to come.
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
He was actually pick 44 in this draft. Just pick 8 in my redraft
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
I think Hill has been excellent in the past 2 seasons at Fremantle and in the competition. Sidebottom, however, has been consistent since he started playing.
You can argue that Sidebottom was in a very good team when he debuted, but he was 19 when he played in that premiership – so he must of have been doing something right to get his spot.
In terms of consistency over the first 7 seasons…Sidebottom over Hill every time
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
Probably not. But because I am not taking into account what the teams needs were in 2008, it is irrelevant I guess which team takes who.
Rather, I rate Sidebottom as the 3rd best talent/player in this draft because of what he has achieved, and what I think he is capable of achieving.
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
You might not believe me, but I did originally write that. It was edited out.
Oh well!
Thanks for reading!
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
I didn’t include rookie drafted players in any redraft I’ve done
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
I noted at the top that this redraft would be a little different.
I’m looking at the first 7 seasons plus their potential/hype for the rest of their careers.
Revisiting the 2008 AFL draft
I reckon Curry will win the MVP as well.
Harden will come 2nd, Westbrook 3rd, Lebron 4th and Davis/M. Gasol 5th
BUT
Westbrook should win. What he has done this season is more impressive then any other player in the NBA
Why Steph Curry is already the NBA MVP
Spot on. To adda few names to the list.
2006: Pick 12 – Frawley (Good pick but unfortunately not with team anymore)
Pick 30 – Petterd (Not there anymore, OK player)
2007: Pick 14 – Jack Grimes (Good player but the verdict is still out on him I reckon)
Pick 21 – Addam Maric (Only played 31 career games, 10 with richmond)
2008: Pick 17 – Sam Blease
Pick 19 – James Strauss
Apart from Frawley, their first few picks in those three drafts were very poor.
Revisiting the 2007 AFL draft
Thanks JMW. 2007 is proving a little more difficult then originally thought. I don’t think Richmond fans are going to agree with me tomorrow.
Revisiting the 2006 AFL draft
Steal of the century? Just kidding. But it was an awesome draft pick.
Revisiting the 2006 AFL draft
Thanks Lamby! I’m glad you enjoy reading them!
The Crows draft Dangerfield, Walker and Sloane in their next two drafts. So you’ve got to be happy with those picks!
In terms of Geelong and Hawthorn, despite having top 10 picks, they drafted incredibly well over the 2001-2005 period…and that’s probably why they are the two most successful/dominant teams of the modern era.
Revisiting the 2006 AFL draft
Richmond’s recruiting was poor. But, I’ve had a look at 06 and 07 and they’ve done exceptionally well.
Tomorrow I look at the 2006 draft. Jack Riewoldt at #13 is a ridiculous steal. And in 2007, they draft Cotchin and Rance with their first two picks. So safe to say, they definitely improved after 2005.
Revisiting the 2005 AFL draft
Swallow, Murphy and Jones are all elite. That’s no question. However, when I redrafted Jones and Murphy in my top 4, it came down to who I would want more in my team.
Also, Jones and Murphy are sensational players in very bad, and very average teams.
In terms of the Hurn-Birchall debate, Shannon Hurn is probably the better half back right now. But, from 2008-2011, Birchall was probably up there with Heath Shaw as the two best rebounding defenders in the game. Hurn may be captain now, but I don’t think you can argue against an All-Australian and 3-time premiership player in Birchall.
Revisiting the 2005 AFL draft
Thanks for picking that up! I meant Carlton! And I agree with you – Betts was a shocking loss for the Blues. His value is finally being appreciated by the Crows and their fans
Revisiting the 2005 AFL draft
Thanks Tommo. Player rankings are a good stat however I am looking at the players careers as a whole, as well as how good they are now
Revisiting the 2005 AFL draft
The class of 2004 was incredible. My redrafted 2005 draft is up today… The depth of that draft is remarkable. It was hard to limit it down to the top 10 because of the quality throughout the whole draft
Revisiting the 2004 AFL draft
Good point. I think the Buddy-Roughead duo was extraordinary for the Hawks, especially in 2013 when they won the premiership and Roughead kick 72 goals, and Buddy kicked 60.
It’s rare that two big forwards can compliment each other so well in the one forward line.
Revisiting the 2004 AFL draft
I had him at pick 8, and changed him to pick 10 last minute. I put Monfries and Maric ahead of him because of what they have achieved and the impact they’ve had since their moves to their respective clubs, as well as their career as a whole.
Van Berlo is a leader no doubt, but he isn’t a star.
Revisiting the 2004 AFL draft
That’s a very good question.
The recruiting in 2003 was very poor.
Revisiting the 2003 AFL draft
Check back tomorrow for the 2004 draft. Will be a good one
Revisiting the 2003 AFL draft
Absolutely. A lot of these guys were quite unlucky.
2004 draft is next. Buddy, Roughy, Deledio…It will be more of an interesting debate because so many of the guys in 2004 are great players today.
Thanks for your feedback
Revisiting the 2003 AFL draft
I haven’t been included any rookie promotions, rookie drafted or preseason drafted players.
