Foley and Hooper were supported far beyond their shelf life. At the same time others have felt their best option was to explore other rugby destinations, such as Europe and Japan before they reached their prime. Neither Hooper and Foley deserved the guarantee of their position regardless of form. Their “soft” treatment only caused negativity in players and fans. Hooper was given the additional role of captain, when the team and code was screaming for leadership. On such a high salary, Hooper was not seen in other Australian regions except on game day. He did little to unite or excite the fans or fellow play. QC was an excitement machine but lost his pace and mojo 5 years ago. Eddie should have brought the broom out, but swept out more than players past their shelf life.

'Completely unfair': Eddie sledge that angered Waugh, new coaching contenders emerge to rebuild Wallabies

I’m not a fan of Eddie. He came back to the Wallabies in the same way he left. With arrogance, bitterness and a taste of revenge.

I believe most fans were willing to give him another shot. In fact many of us believed he could be the saviour of a code we all love, but for many years watched it reduce in stature.

The Wallabies and the Australian rugby fan needs Eddie Jones today. We need someone with the courage to make the tough decisions (even if they’re not popular) and continue to look at what must be done to bring the wallabies back to the front of the world rugby pack.

If there is anyone that should be removed it is those on the board who have allowed Australian rugby down this path. We have become the laughing stock of world rugby.

Eddie needs to be controlled and needs a strong characters above him, beside him, and reporting to him. He needs to be questioned and challenged in all his decisions.

There is no one else available, willing and has the skill to bring Australian rugby back from the brink.

Wallabies are where the All Blacks were in 2007 - it's time to look in the mirror or risk more embarrassment

An ugly team the Poms. They talk themselves up as the change agents of the game. They lose against the Aussies on home soil and complained about the “spirit of the game”. Never did they admit they were beaten by a better team. Now they’re getting eaten in a form of game they have been telling the world they are the greatest at. Nothing better than the Poms going down. Come in NZ, win both world cups (Rugby and cricket) and the league championship. Pommyland, sook about it for another 4 years

'An absolute stinker ... No idea whatsover': England's World Cup title defence in ruins after record-breaking Proteas shellacking

A bad weekend for the Poms: lost the Rugby to SA, were mightily flogged in cricket by SA and lost a great from their football fraternity. Oh yeh, Prince Harry continues to be unhappy with life (in general).

'Concede points there, they're done': Moment England missed to bury Springboks as ghosts of 2019 return

We are stuck with him… a pity but that’s where we are. What the Board needs to do is control him. Keep him on a noose and keep a tight reign. Eddie came back as the messiah, but instead he’s created a mess. There is little attraction with Eddie now. Players aren’t going to be drawn to him. Other coaches the same. Promoters and advertisers are not going to recognise value in aligning with Eddie. If you were to pick on another coach, similar to Eddie, one could choose Wayne Bennett. Like Eddie, Wayne is obnoxious, rude and has little patience for people who don’t see life and the game as he does. But the difference: his players love him, his reputation is incredible, he has the results at all levels of the game. He takes an ordinary team and makes them into something of value such as the dolphins. At the moment while Eddie is the coach of the Wallabies with the full support of the board, people are turned off the game they used to play in heaven

Is Eddie the enigma still the right man to lead Wallabies?

Well if Eddie is the man to stick with, it will mean the current Chairman is also protected. There needs to be a clear, transparent plan to get us back to top 5, then top 3 and then World Cup Champs in 2027. Is Eddie on a guaranteed salary or is he on a performance based only. The latter would be preferred. I am not a fan of the management team at AR. They are NSW centric. Reduce the Super Rugby teams to 4, by removing Brumbies. Ensure all teams are evenly matched with skills/age and experience (as much as possible). Get free to air tv rights and have commentators that are professional and can relate to all ages. Hit the school rugby and league programs and identify talent early. Try to win me and thousands of others back to the game they once played in heaven.

Eddie Jones says he needs to 'give myself an uppercut' but '100 percent' committed to coaching Wallabies

I don’t have anyone in mind to replace Eddie, but he and all those who chose him as coach (the board, have to go also. Get the best Aussies to run Rugby in Australia. David Nucifora to lead up the change required in Australia. Andy Friend to come on as coach of the Wallabies and David Gallop or even Andrew Demetriou. as Chairman. Have anybody who hasn’t ties and friends in NSW Rugby. It is the new Chairman’s role to work out if Phil Waugh is worth keeping on.

'He's got to be honest'- Wallabies legend's message to mate Eddie as ex-skipper says Jones 'never committed'

I’m a huge fan of Peter O’Mahony almost as much as Michael Leitch – Japanese player. Both play with heart, toughness, passion and skill.

World Cup team of the pool stage: Irish domination, minnows surprise, one Wallaby makes the cut

I’m sure if they had a “Dud” team of the Pool stage, it would be dominated with Wallabies, with a Wallaby coach and Wallaby Chair. I’m grateful we are out as another game would bring further torture to the players and fans. I’m now exercising my Irish roots and going for the mighty Green machine

World Cup team of the pool stage: Irish domination, minnows surprise, one Wallaby makes the cut

Loosey, strength and speed, I agree with. But skill….no way. Esp in attack. You simply place current backline against Farr Jones, Lynagh, Horan, Little, Campo, Joe and Latham. It would be a one sided game. The forward pack would be a little more difficult due to the changes the front 8 have undertaken in the past 2 decades. In saying that though, I would choose Kearns, Eales, Vickerman, kepu and George Smith.

'They're the guys to start with': Eddie tells Carter Gordon to study the greats after World Cup 'ups and downs'

We lost this tournament before it started. Poor selection, thin skinned coach, unrealistic expressed goals and a team without a strong tested leader. These all fall onto the responsibility of Eddie, Hamish and Phil.

Wallabies DIY player ratings from loss to Wales: TWENTY-THREE fails as captain, fullback nightmares sum up dark day

I didn’t watch the game. Was going to after work today. looks like I’ll peel the potatoes instead!!
Jones, McLennan and Waugh need to do some real soul searching.
Who wants to join forces with Jones and help coach?…no one with any skill.
Who wants to leave NRL and join Rugby with the hope of being part of a Lions and World Cup squad?…no 1st class player.
Where are the schoolboys who want to play rugby rather than league?…they’ve already left.
Where are the sponsors, willing to put money behind the code or the Wallabies?….ROI doesn’t stack up.
Which free to air TV station is willing to televise the tests?
Can the game be saved with the same people in charge??

The Wrap: With Wallabies done and dusted in 15 miserable days, who do we trust to take Australian rugby forward?

I hope Foley wasn’t hinting he should have been on tour. He would not have made any difference. I’m not a fan of Hooper as a player, but his comments after the game in support of Jones is top shelf. I dont agree with him, as your performance should never be judged by the time you spend working, but the results. Hooper should have been on tour.

'F--- mate, what didn't go wrong?' 'Raw, devastated' Wallabies 'got bashed' - players react, Foley weighs in, after disaster

Thank God we played Wales in the Pool. If we were to line up against the Boks or Ireland the score would have been far worse

'Bloody disappointed: Wallabies OUT of World Cup as nation to miss finals for first time, Eddie fights for survival

I would like to be a fly on the wall for his exit interview. If it is true and he goes, so should the Chairman and those responsible for his selection.

'Clown show', 'such a flog', 'poor form': How Aus rugby reacted to report that Eddie had Japan job interview before RWC

Drew makes up one of the most embarrassing commentary team in international sport. He and Sonny Bill make Buddha Handy look great. Hooper, Cooper, JOC and Foley are all out of date. They should have been left at home. Nick White also. Remember, Hooper, Foley and White were senior players in the Wallabies in one of the worse periods of game.

'F---ing explain some of these decisions': Ex-Wallaby star's scathing Eddie critique, coach defends vision

Is anyone surprised. Eddie inherited an ordinary squad and has only made it worse. Gordon and Donaldson were always going to be 3rd rate, yet in true fashion, Eddie knew better. Having a 6th captain in charge for this game when Slipper was playing, is just a small example of Eddie’s mindset of simply being different and showing he’s his own man. All to the detriment of Australian Rugby. How, this day and age, we have backs that can’t tackle.

'Eddie got found out': Jones in spotlight as 'ferocious' Fiji leave Wallabies RWC hopes hanging by thread in 69 year first

White shouldn’t have toured Skippy. As for captain…. Big call. His yapping irritates the referee. He is thin skinned and is temperamental…. All things opposing players love and everything players looking for leadership hate. Look at the great leaders: Eales, Farr-Jones, McCaw, Fitzpatrick, they were respectful to the ref whilst being firm. Yet they led their players the same way and of course in their actions in play.

'He'll be superb': Wallabies set to turn to SIXTH captain in 2023 as Skelton misses final run

I’d be more than happy if Nick White never percent of jersey again. He is a negative player that crosses the line with the referee which means we can never have a good relationship with the man in charge. wasn’t it Nick White who lost Ewan Mackenzies last game as Wallaby coach against the all Blacks. His continuous smart arse, back chatting has given more points to the opposition than those he created or scored himself.

Wallabies bolter has played just one Test - but picking him over veteran would stick to Eddie's new 'mantra'

Good article, but I’m always worried when there is too much talking about themselves. I also question Tom Hoopers line of “But I’m a young player…..”. He might be, yet he is a Wallaby, so age is no excuse. The Fijians will be throwing the ball around and testing the line, so it is so important that there is absolute cohesion and coordination from 9 to 15 with the support of the loose forwards. The smallest of gaps is all the Fijians will need. We win this game, we are into the next round, regardless of the outcome of the welsh game.

Exclusive: Tongan Thor in doubt for Wallabies' entire RWC pool stage after training mishap, surprise Slipper role

Davey is a great guy and very competitive. Let him play pajama cricket, but he is lost in the longer format. Like Biden, the longer he is exposed the weaker he is.

Warner, Head on all-time opening partnership pace as monster stand, Marnus ton help Aussies pummel Proteas

I thought there was some great individual play, but there still was a real lack of team cohesiveness. It was a good win and here’s hoping that things will only get stronger for the Wallabies. They will really miss Tate McDermott for the next one or two games, as he is faster and much more dangerous than the old man Nick White. Also without White, there seemed a better relationship with the ref. I also thought the loose forwards were pretty quiet especially our number eight. Yet at two wingers are dangerous and strong in attack and looking for work in defence. Fantastic

Player ratings: Skelton, Tupou Wallabies' best despite Donno's day out in World Cup opener

Such a pity Tony (Pig) Darcy left rugby to give league a shot. He would have been one of the best ever. Like Kearns, he couldn’t make A grade at Brothers in Brisbane when he first played for the Wallabies. Danny Tighe and Buddha Handy kept him out. It’s g reat Daly was chosen. Great player and was solid with Ewen and Kearns.

Greatest XV: 'I had a gift' - the trauma and pain that drove Tony Daly, but also brought him crashing back to earth

I would have thought it was too late for “trial and error “ strategies. Play the best team in the first game and tweak it, if needed. One of the biggest complaints about Cheika, from his players, was they were continuously unsettled. Before training they had no pre-plan and often the night before the game MC was still working on the game plan. Rod McQueen was the opposite. He had a plan a week out and all the squad was aware of it and most importantly they all knew their role, even the water boy. Eddie should take a leaf out of RMcQ book, not MC
