Pakistan are dominating the second Test and will look to drive the final nail into Australia’s coffin during Day 3 in Abu Dhabi. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 5pm (AEDT).

It’s taken just two days of action to confirm there will be only one team who can win this Test, and therefore the series.

While Australia managed to salvage a miracle draw during the first Test, things aren’t looking anywhere near as positive this time around.

With three days – or 270 overs – of cricket left Pakistan are already well into their second innings, leading by 281 runs with eight wickets in hand.

The tourists bowled solidly on the first day of the match. At one point, Nathan Lyon had the hosts in a spin sitting at 5 for 57, but that didn’t last long as they ended on 282.

Still, if Australia were offered bowling Pakistan out for 282 at the start, they would have taken it.

Tim Paine’s side then went to stumps at 2 for 20, but with one of those wickets being Peter Siddle and the other the fatigued Usman Khawaja, things didn’t look all that bad.

They did just a few hours into Day 2, though, as Pakistan, led by Mohammad Abbas, ran through the Aussies, having them seven wickets down by lunch and all out for 145 shortly after, with Australia only getting that far thanks to a Mitchell Starc 34.

Led by Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan then proved there actually weren’t all that many demons in the wicket, ending the day on 2 for 144 from 44 overs with Fakhar scoring a quick 66 and Azhar Ali going to stumps on 54 not out, joined by Haris Sohail.

With three days left, Pakistan can afford to bat all of today if they choose, although, making it that far is another question altogether. The game is in skipper Sarfraz Ahmed’s hands. But even a Pakistani collapse would leave Australia needing to chase more than 300 in the final innings of the match.

There looks to be little hope for the Aussies as they start the third day at the mercy of both the fierce UAE sun and a Pakistan middle order who have a thing or two to prove after their first innings collapse.
