The Formula One world championship rolls on to its third round in as many weeks, crossing the border from Austria for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Join us at 11:10pm (AEST) on The Roar for live blog coverage.

A perfect start for reigning world champions Mercedes in this truncated 2020 season sees them arrive at one of six-time title-winner Lewis Hamilton’s most successful tracks, the Hungaroring.

The 4.3-kilometre circuit close to the Hungarian capital of Budapest is a completely different challenge to the Red Bull Ring, being a vastly more technical track with more emphasis on downforce.

With this being the circuit’s key characteristic, many were hoping the change in scenery would allow Red Bull Racing to challenge for the victory this weekend, with Max Verstappen coming to this weekend with last year’s 70-lap race disappointment still in mind.

But it might be the weather that influences how things pan out, with the threat of rain looming for the race after qualifying remained dry.

Only a tenth separated the two Mercedes teammates for pole position, with Hamilton claiming his 90th career pole ahead of Valtteri Bottas.

A key talking point from Austria was how quick the Racing Point cars were despite their best result being only sixth courtesy of Sergio Perez. So quick is the pink team that Renault protested the legality of their brake ducts based on their apparent similarity to those used by Mercedes in 2019.

Both Racing Point cars occupy the second row of the grid, with Lance Stroll leading Sergio Perez, and both will start the race on the medium-compound tyre, which could shake things up.

It’s arguable whether they are the third-fastest team at the moment. Either way, a podium result doesn’t seem too far away, which would be of great concern to the likes of McLaren and Renault in the midfield.

Chasing a record eighth win in Hungary, Hamilton will look to build on his momentum from the last race and claim victory to take the championship lead off teammate Bottas.

It’s difficult to see anyone upset that rhythm given the lack of pace from Ferrari and with Max Verstappen not happy in his RB16 and starting down in seventh.

Williams will also look to capitalise on both their cars getting out of Q1 for the first time since the 2018 Italian Grand Prix. George Russell will start from 12th and rookie Nicholas Latifi 15th.

For our third race in three weeks, please join me on The Roar from 11:00pm (AEST) for live blog coverage of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
