A hugely anticipated meeting between close rivals the NSW Waratahs and ACT Brumbies kicks off the Australian Super Rugby Pacific challenge for 2023 at the new Sydney Football Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:30pm (AEDT).

The Waratahs’ were the surprise packet of last season and built a strong following at Leichhardt Oval but return to Moore Park in their heartland for this clash with the Brumbies – beaten semifinalists last year.

Wallabies legend Stephen Larkham returns to the helm of the Brumbies and has pulled a selection surprise against the Darren Coleman coached Tahs.

With several of his Wallabies players having had little time in pre-season trials, Larkham has stacked the bench with Wallabies captain James Slipper, scrumhalf Nic White and flyhalf Noah Lolesio among those set to finish the game.

Larkham has opted for Jack Debreczeni at No.10 and he will be pitted against Tane Edmed, with the Tahs moving Test capped flyhalf Ben Donaldson to No.15. There is a Super Rugby debut for young Tahs star Max Jorgensen.

Charlie Gamble – who will become eligible for Wallabies selection this year – has been named at No.8 while there is no place in the 23 for Tolu Latu as Darren Coleman opts for a 6-2 bench split.
