Brisbane looked a completely different team to what we’ve seen from them this season in last round’s win over Wellington. But that was largely down to an in the mood Eric Bautheac.
Newcastle were the team Perth needed to beat to win the premiership, and they did. That match going 1-0 to Perth.
Newcastle were rather strong defensively, but they did struggle going forward. Admittedly, Perth’s defence is one of the hardest in the league to break down, but low scoring has been a theme for Newcastle of late.
Neither team has anything left to play for this season, with table positions pretty much set. Which is probably just as well for Brisbane, with Thomas Kristensen joining the injury list and Jacob Pepper and Eric Bautheac being suspended.
Ruon Tongyik returns from a hamstring injury, while Stefan Nigro, Tobias Mikkelsen and Jay Barnett come in to the extended squad.
Prediction
No Bautheac for Brisbane, no Vargas for Newcastle. Either someone in the middle steps up, or no chances will be created. Maybe Petratos or Champness can for Newcastle, but form suggests otherwise.
