Show Preview

Fast 4 tennis will be back in Sydney in the lead-up to the Australian Open, with Nick Kyrgios and John Millman representing Australia against Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage of the exhibition event from 7:30pm (AEDT).

While there is nothing riding on the result, it’ll be interesting to see where Rafael Nadal’s level is, given this is the world No.1’s first official hit-out of the new season.

He was scheduled to play at the Brisbane International, but following a long run of hard court tournament withdrawals, it continued in Brisbane, with Nadal pulling out before it began.

It means this will be his one chance to get some match practice in ahead of the Australian Open.

While he is out of form, his likely opponent, Nick Kyrgios, is off the rails again. His run in Brisbane was shrouded by days in hospital and a ‘don’t care’ factor, as he bombed out of the tournament in the second round after bombing just short of 70 aces across the six sets of tennis.

He had opportunities to put both matches away, but simply seemed to not want to care, and it’ll be interesting to see if an exhibition event like this can not only bring the best out of Kyrgios, but put him in a better frame of mind ahead of the first grand slam of the year.

His teammate, John Millman, is known as a fighter on tour, and he will need it against either Nadal or Raonic, depending on who he is drawn to play. He is a very good returner of serve though, and a battle against Raonic where he can make the points physical once the serve goes back in could be one to watch.

Raonic had a solid run to get his season going in Brisbane, making the quarter-finals before falling to eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev, but he will be looking for more out of tonight.

He will want to hit the ball better and increase his first serve percentage, which fell away to just 64 per cent in the quarter-final.

Prediction
Hard to go past the team of Nadal and Raonic to take this out.
