Sportsbet is off the mark as the first corporate bookmaker to secure rights to live stream Victorian metropolitan and country racing.
Sportsbet will show racing in the state live from its website as of Monday, and has said it will stream via mobile app from the middle of next April. Sportsbet customers will also be able to view replays on the bookmaker’s website.
The caveat is that customers will need to have made a deposit to access the live service.
“It will put live racing in the hands of punters on the device of their choice – anywhere, anytime. Our 1.8 million customers will be able to access marquee events like the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup at home, at the pub, on the golf course, or on the road,” Sportsbet chief executive Cormac Barry said in a statement.
“Sportsbet are innovators in finding ways to enhance our customers’ experience and value, and this is a major coup for punters and the Victorian racing industry.”
Racing Victoria’s own website Racing.com provides the streaming service, with further corporate bookmakers expected to secure digital rights, as well as Tabcorp.
NSW metropolitcan and country racing remains limited to Tabcorp’s Sky Racing digital offering and the Racing NSW website.
