The roughies were out in force at Caulfield on Saturday, and we couldn’t quite get the job done, but hopefully we can bounce back this week.

I’ll be previewing the quaddies at Flemington for this Saturday, starting off with the early quaddie, with the legs being Races 2 through to 5:

Flemington early quaddie

Leg one – VRC Member John Gubbins Handicap (70)
1400m

Zunbaqa should hold a forward spot from the good gate. Vegas Flyer showed speed on debut but was caught wide no cover. The each-way play for me is Brookwater, who was ridden upside-down to win first up. He can improve sharply with a sit.

Suggestion: 2-5-6-8-12

Leg two – VRC Member Wendy Johnson Handicap
2000m

Rhythm To Spare should roll forward with the light weight, which will give Diamond Duke an ideal drag over. Almandin looks the way to go, just surprised he opened generous odds at $7.

Suggestion: 1-2-3-5

Leg three – VRC Member Allen Aylett Handicap
1700m

Great Esteem looks the leader here based on recent patterns, but I’d love to see my old mate Lord Durante roll forward. If he does, gee he will take some beating.

Suggestion: 2-4-5-7

Leg four – VRC Member Daniel Maher Handicap
1400m

Majestic Duke is hard and fit now, and is the sole speed runner out wide, so he should get over without too much drama. Each way, All Cerise is a good play. Her jump out last Friday was very impressive.

Suggestion: 3-5-6-8-11

$50 investment: 12.5 per cent of the dividend if successful.

Flemington quaddie

Leg one – Jockey Celebration Day Handicap (90)
1000m

A straight race filled with speed, so they should really set it up for something drawn to stalk and ambush. Two horses that come to mind are Fast Cash and Risen From Doubt, both having looked sharp at the trials and jump outs respectively.

Suggestion: 3-4-8-10-11-17

Leg two – Auries Star Handicap
1200m

Beirut should press forward, as should Ramornie winner Smart Volatility. Really tough race to sort out but I have narrowed it to four chances.

Suggestion: 4-7-9-11

Leg three – VRC Member John Lee Handicap (84)
1400m

Lahqa should lead these and comfortably with a clean jump. Just Stellar was strong last start and just needs luck from the wide gate to be a leading contender.

Suggestion: 1-2-3-10-13

Leg four – VRC Member Keli Sponner Handicapm (78)
1200m

Another straight race that looks filled with speed runners. Manhattan Blues and Badajoz are the stalkers, while Heza Ripper has the form on the board, and Camdus could easily bounce back.

Suggestion: 3-5-7-11
