A small field has assembled for the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) with Criterion returning to Australia for the first time since his overseas venture. Check in here on The Roar shortly after the race start time of 2:50pm AEDT for results.

First Seal missed the spring with a hoof injury but has returned with a win in the Millie Fox by just under a length from Telepathic, is a big contender here but is she value at $2.80?

Our Boy Malachi had an alright trial on his return, first up he has never been out of the quinella in eight starts and that includes winning seven of them. He is unbeaten on the track and has two wins from three starts over the journey, he will be a major player today and at $3.40 may present value.

Kermadec might find this trip a little bit sharp, but he has an outstanding record at this track with two wins and two seconds from five starts, but I would want a little more than $5.50 about him.

Criterion had that irresistible spring form winning the Caulfield Stakes before a second placing in the Cox Plate and a third placing in the Melbourne Cup, does that mean he will find this trip a little stiff on his first race back in Australia? My best guess would be yes.

He does have a placing over the distance and he wouldn’t surprise me if he actually won this race and the price of $9.50 is solid.

Ecuador has a great record first up with one win and four second placings in five starts, he also has three second placings on the track, big query over the distance though but may provide some exotics value.

Happy Clapper was really solid last campaign but this is a few steps up in grade making this race an extremely hard one to win.

Holler third up won his only race, has some great form at this track and has a win at 1200m but has never raced this distance, he is one to include in multiples regardless of that fact.

Personally I think Our Boy Malachi will be too strong for them here.
