What most people will remember Sam Cane for - and what they should instead
It didn’t come as that big a surprise when Sam Cane announced he was walking away from the All Blacks on Monday. That’s not…
NSW winger Lachie Turner will make his first Test start for 2010 after being named in the Wallabies team to play New Zealand at ANZ Stadium on Saturday.
Turner, who wasn’t originally selected for Australia’s Tri-Nations campaign and received a late call-up from coach Robbie Deans when wingers Peter Hynes and Cameron Shepherd were injured, will replace Drew Mitchell in the starting XV for the Bledisoe Cup encounter.
Mitchell is the only omission from the team which took the park to start last weekend’s dramatic 41-39 victory over South Africa in Bloemfontein after succumbing to a hamstring injury sustained in that match.
Deans, hoping to end Australia’s nine-Test losing streak to the All Blacks, has made one further change on the bench, with reserve hooker Huia Edmonds coming in to replace the suspended Saia Faingaa.
The Wallabies will be hoping to take the confidence from their win over the Springboks into Saturday’s match.
New Zealand have already sewn up the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations crowns for this year.
Wallabies (from fullback): Kurtley Beale, James O’Connor, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Matt Giteau, Lachie Turner, Quade Cooper, Will Genia, Ben McCalman, David Pocock, Rocky Elsom (capt), Nathan Sharpe, Mark Chisholm, Salesi Ma’afu, Stephen Moore, Benn Robinson. Res: Huia Edmonds, James Slipper, Dean Mumm, Richard Brown, Luke Burgess, Berrick Barnes, Anthony Faingaa.
