The Chicago Bulls have moved into the top spot in the Eastern Conference after a convincing 98-79 win over the Washington Wizards. The Bulls currently have the second best record overall, still six wins behind the Spurs.

The Boston Celtics are currently half a game behind the Bulls with Miami and Orlando rounding out the top four.

Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia and Indiana round out the top eight eastern teams with just under a month to go in the regular season.

San Antonio leads the west with Dallas, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma also leading the way for first round home court. Denver, New Orleans, Portland and Memphis are fifth to eighth in the west.

If Chicago manages to hold on to this number one seed it will mean that they would have home court advantage in any series in the east. This could mean big problems for teams such as Miami and Boston, who will be likely to face the Bulls at some point.

History shows that, for young teams, such as the Bulls this year, home court can have a huge advantage.

A number one eastern seed would also likely secure the MVP honours for point guard Derrick Rose, as traditionally a win/loss record has played heavily on the results for the award.
