Queensland Maroons forward David Taylor could miss State of Origin game 3 after being charged by the NRL judiciary of a grade two dangerous throw, in an awkward tackle on Scott Anderson over the weekend.
The NRL Match Review Committee charged Taylor after viewing footage of the fifth-minute tackle in the game between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Brisbane in Perth.
A poor record at the judiciary may cost Taylor, with prior offences adding a 70 per cent points loading on his base charge of 325 points.
This means he will either be suspended for four weeks off with an early guilty plea, or five weeks if found guilty by the judiciary.
Taylor was given a healthy Origin game 2 player rating by The Roar of 6.5 after two damaging hit-ups before his impact dropped off.
The Rabbitohs and Taylor will need to notify the NRL before midday tomorrow if they will contest the charge.
In the event that the Rabbitohs challenge either the charge or the grading, the judiciary will hear the Rabbitohs defence on Wednesday night.
The NRL Game Analyser makes little mention of the Taylor hit, classifying it as a “big hit” rather than “foul play” or penalty: NRL Game Analyser video. Taylor also appears to indicate that Anderson had moved in the tackle, creating an unintentional spear tackle.
