Three games. That’s all that stands between a perfect season for Green Bay after the Packers today obliterated another playoff contender, the Oakland Raiders.
I pose this question: can anyone beat Green Bay this year? If so, who? Which team can stop their powerful offence?
The Packers put on a near perfect performance in their 46-16 victory, a match that many were starting to think if Oakland would trouble the scorekeeper after not having posted any points for the entire first half.
QB Rodgers (who was rested in the third quarter) threw for 281 yards including two TDs and one interception, Grant rushed for 85 yards and two TDs from 10 carries and Nelson contributed a touchdown and 81 receiving yards.
Green Bay’s defence was very, very solid today just ask Oakland QB Carson Palmer who threw four interceptions as well as one touchdown however the damage was already done.
The offence was even better. With their first five possessions, the Packers notched up four TDs and a field goal. Impressive.
The Packers are striving to become only the second team since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970. The only team to go undefeated encompassing playoffs was the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Since then, several teams have gone close including the New England Patriots (2007) who won all games however fell short in Super Bowl XLII and more recently the 2009 Indianapolis Colts side who started 14-0 but lost their last two regular season matches. They too made and failed in the Bowl game.
Green Bay faces the Kansas City Chiefs (away) next followed by Chicago and ending the regular season in week 17 against the Detroit Lions, both at home (Lambeau Field).
