Bernard Tomic made headlines in 2011 by making the quarter finals of Wimbledon becoming the youngest player since Boris Becker in 1986 to achieve this feat at the All England Club. At 19 years old, Tomic is a tennis great in the making.

Tomic has a game which is different compared to the majority of players on tour. He has a great serve, not the fastest serve, but it is very accurate and has a lot of variety with it, just like many other aspects of his game.

He has a great forehand which when it hard is possibly the fastest on tour. However, Tomic doesn’t hit the forehand hard all the time, instead he varies the power and spins of his shots until he is sure that he can hit a clean winner, making it very hard for his opponents to adapt against him as they have to generate all the power in their shots against Tomic.

As well as this, the ability that Tomic has to hit the ball hard at any time frustrates his opponents into submission.

It is a very similar story on the backhand wing of Tomic. Tomic backhand is very similar to Murray’s and Djokovic’s backhand. Murray with the varying power and spins on his shots, and Djokovic with the power and speed of the backhand at maximum velocity, as well as the execution of the backhand drop shot.

Tomic also has a fabulous slice backhand, which is possibly the best on the tour today. He has great depth on his shots no matter how hard he hits the ball. Tomic is also a good volleyer and has a very safe and reliable smash.

Recently, Tomic with the help of Pat Rafter and Tony Roche has been improving his game to make himself a more formidible player on the world stage. Tomic has been working on adding the serve-and-volley mastery to his game, as well as working on improving his footspeed and agility.

Improving his footspeed and agility will help chase down balls which he would not have got to before and it will enable Tomic to have more control over his opponent and over the match.

Adding the serve-and-volley mastery to his game will enable Tomic the ability to finish off points quicker at the net, rather than waiting on the baseline for the opportunity of hitting a winner, or his opponent making an error.

Adding and improving these aspects of his game will be extremely beneficial for Tomic as it will definitely make him a more complete and formidible player. He has the game to become one of the all-time greats.

Overall, I think Tomic’s best chances of winning a Grand Slam title are at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Tomic’s game is best suited to grass and hard courts, with clay his weakest surface. That is why I wouldn’t favour him winning the French Open at this stage, but I think he could win at Roland Garros at some point in his career.

In conclusion, Tomic in my personal view has got the potential to win Grand Slam titles and become one of the all-time greats in the sport. I think a Grand Slam title may just be around the corner.
