Clive Palmer’s considerable shadow is hanging over Hunter Stadium, where Newcastle Jets will play host to his former club Gold Coast United. Kick-off is at 8.00pm AEDT, and we’ll have live scores from the outset.

Gone, but not forgotten.

A week after the initial shock of the announcement of Palmer’s rogue ‘Football Australia’ league/concept/pipedream, the mining magnate had begun to drift in football irrelevancy.

That was until this afternoon, when he decided to charter a helicopter with a large, black banner with his now infamous message ‘freedom of speech’ to hover over Newcastle’s Hunter Stadium until around kick-off.

Whether Gold Coast United will take any form of inspiration from it is debatable at best, particularly given the bare-bones nature of the list, which continues to be wracked by injuries.

It looks certain that the side will cough and splutter over the line, and whether they can yield a result against an in-form Newcastle Jets outfit is unclear.

Gary van Egmond’s side have grown in confidence and form over the past two months and are faced with a chance to shore up their spot in the top six tonight.

Ruben Zadkovich goes out due to suspension but apart from that, the Jets have no injury concerns.

They should do the business, and do it well tonight.

Can Gold Coast get one more win before their likely extinction here, or will the Jets rise above Palmer’s helicopter antics? We’ll have live scores from the commencement at 8.00pm AEDT, so if you’ve got an opinion on the action, don’t hesitate to leave us your thoughts in the space below.
