Gold Coast United host Perth Glory this afternoon at Skilled Park in what could be the last match of A-League football in a long time. We’ll bring you live scores from the kick-off at 6.30pm AEDT.

Just how important is A-League football on the Gold Coast?

That is the question that diehard supporters and those involved with the ‘SaveGCU’ movement are asking their fellow Sunhine Strip brethren this evening in the hope that a significant turnout can show both the FFA and potential investors that Gold Coast can continue to be a viable option.

If there was any lingering doubts as to whether to head down to Skilled Park, then a look at the team’s recent performances should be enough to get bums on seats.

The team could have been forgiven for throwing in the towel after the news of Clive Palmer’s licence being revoked just over a fortnight ago but to their credit, they’ve stuck to their task under Mike Mulvey and played some inspiring football in the process.

Tonight they might be a chance at more unexpected points for the home side as they come up against a side guaranteed of finishing third or fourth with all but no chance of catching Brisbane in second spot.

With the injured Liam Miller already looking a 50-50 proposition of being back for the finals in two weeks time, all that coach Ian Ferguson will be hoping for is a solid performance and no further additions to the injured list.

As was the case last weekend, Gold Coast have often outplayed opposition only to end up all square after ninety minutes and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them pick up another solitary point this evening.
