Adelaide Crows and St Kilda conclude Round 8 this evening with the Saints looking to build on their win over the Blues on Monday night football. Join us on The Roar for live scores and commentary from the final match of the round.

At this stage of the season, building some momentum and getting a string of wins on the board is a key aim. Both have the opportunity to consolidate last week’s win into a winning streak, but only one will succeed.

It’s been a slow start to the season for both clubs; but there’s an opportunity here to get the season well and truly back on track.

Hopes were high for Adelaide this season after only missing last year’s Grand Final by a kick.

But the defection of Kurt Tippett, which cost the Crows not only a key forward but early draft picks, has hurt. And when Taylor Walker went down with a serious injury, the Adelaide forward line looked vulnerable.

Two unconvincing wins from their first six games, and the season could have unravelled for the Crows. But last week they returned to form in style with a thumping of GWS.

On the forward line, the gap in their forward line was filled as Tom Lynch stood up to be counted, finishing with ten goals to spearhead the Adelaide charge.

Around the ground, Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Thompson were possession-generating machines all day; and the Crows will again be looking for a big contribution from them.

In Sam Jacobs, the Crows have a ruckman who is in good form and ready to dominate another game.

A win here for the Crows would bring them up to an even win-loss ratio; and knocking on the door of the top eight.

On the other side is St Kilda, a team that haven’t had everything go their way this season but put in their best effort of the season to date to defeat Carlton last Monday night.

From the opening round of the season when they went down to Gold Coast, it looked like this would be a season in which the Saints would struggle.

Just one win from their first six games, but they turned their form around in the game against Carlton.

The win was generated by the drive of Jack Steven, who picked up a whopping 39 possessions last week; and the Saints will again be looking for a big contribution from him.

Despite the Saints’ indifferent form for much of the year, Ben McEvoy has been solid in the ruck; while captain Nick Riewoldt is starting to show glimpses of the form he showed to spearhead the Saints’ charge into Grand Finals a few years ago.

The consequences of a loss for the Saints would be disastrous, leaving them many games behind the top eight, but a win would see them keep within striking distance.

It’s a high-stakes encounter at AAMI Stadium. The match starts at 4.40pm AEST, 4.10pm local time.
