Morris expects more from 'quiet' Inglis

Josh Morris says NSW are on high alert for a breakout game from Queensland strike weapon Greg Inglis in Wednesday’s all-important State of Origin game two.

Morris said he expected Inglis to lift after the Dally M leader admitted he was less than satisfied with his performance in the Maroons’ 14-6 loss in Sydney.

That loss put NSW on the verge of ending Queensland’s unprecedented run of seven straight series victories.

But Morris said he expected Inglis to be used around the field – not just in the centres – as Queensland search for some spark from the game’s most damaging ball-runner.

“I expect him to be busier. I expect that he’ll probably go in looking for it,” Morris said.

“He was pretty quiet but knowing GI and the player that he is, he’s going to want to have a big game up there in front of the Queenslanders.

“Whether it’s over my side of the field or in the middle of the field I’m sure he’s going to be popping up a fair bit.”

Morris was widely praised for his efforts in limiting Inglis’ effectiveness when the two matched up last year – but the South Sydney star still found ways to have an impact on the series.

Despite Morris’s excellent defensive efforts, Inglis, Origin’s all-time leading try-scorer with 14, managed to cross twice for four-pointers in games one and two.

The consistent Canterbury performer was even more impressive in the series opener this year.

Inglis admitted he felt like a “headless chook” as he ran for just 57m and was held to only one big play – a try assist to Darius Boyd in the second half.

He said he and fellow centre Michael Jennings, who outplayed his opposite Justin Hodges in game one, took great pride in coming up against the Test centre pairing.

“I think me and Jenko (Jennings) look forward to the clashes out wide,” Morris said.

“Obviously they’re the Australian centres and we have a tough job ahead of us.

“But it’s certainly something we look forward to every time we pull on a Blues jersey.”
