The 2007 formula one world champion, Kimi Raikkonen, is on the verge of returning to Ferrari for the 2014 season.

The team who helped Kimi to his maiden world title back in 2007 look set to announce the signing shortly, as contract negotiations have been said to have been completed on Monday.

Kimi will be teammate to double world champion Fernando Alonso, who accomplished his maiden F1 crowns back in 2005 and 2006.

Completing the move would yeild quite possibly the strongest driver line-up in an F1 team today.

Ferrari have been looking at new driver options, as they want someone who can provide reliable performance. This has led to the change due to Felipe Massa showing inconsistent results as Alonso’s teammate.

Since Massa’s accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix back in 2009, he has not been showing the performances he had the year before, out-scoring Kimi in points.

In a Q and A with fans on Alonso’s Twitter account, Fernando said, “I said yesterday to the media it’s not possible for me to talk of any name for next year because I have a lot of respect for Felipe.

“We’ve been working very hard and close for four years to give Ferrari the maximum. Whatever decision the team will take will be good for me and we will keep working to give Ferrari the best results possible.”
