Every time Anthony Mundine opens his mouth he seems to get another sub-group of society against him.

No one is safe or off-limits for the former rugby league star turned boxer.

He has spoken against the United States of America way back in 2001 when he declared that the US had brought the September 11 Terrorist Attacks upon themselves.

He has spoken against women when he questioned Cathy Freeman’s ability to be an Indigenous leader stating that “a man can only lead” and that at the end of the day “it’s got to be a man”.

He has spoken against homosexuals stating that an episode of Redfern Now promoted homosexuality and that “it isn’t in (Aboriginal) culture and that the ancestors would have their head for it”.

He has even spoken against fellow boxer Daniel Geale by questioning his indigenous heritage claiming that “he’s got a white women, he’s got white kids … I keep it real every day”.

Just recently Mundine announced that he had aspirations to become the Prime Minister of Australia.

There is not many people left that Mundine has not spoken out against, which certainly does not help his cause.

The purpose of this is not to bag out Mundine or anything he has achieved.

After an exciting 127-game rugby league career with St George and the Brisbane Broncos he has gone on to a professional boxing record of 44 wins for only five losses.

Self-promotion is not a bad thing – especially in an individual sport like boxing – but Mundine takes it too far and upsets too many people unnecessarily.

Perhaps if Mundine kept his mouth closed more he would be more highly regarded as the incredible sportsman that he is.
